If you live at high latitudes then you might not take sunburns terribly seriously, so when you go somewhere a bit nearer to equator and try and be macho about sunscreen.... these lessons tend to be painful but very memorable, nobody makes this mistake twice.

Those lizards are called basilisks and they are the only lizard species that can run on two legs. They can run for short distances on water as well! (But they are invasive in many areas due to the pet trade unfortunately).

Okay, but there is a reason for it. When hundreds/thousands of people swarm the (maybe) two person door of a building all at once, it takes longer for everyone to get out, and people usually get trampled and seriously injured/killed. Seriously, there was a concert where some fireworks caught the venue on fire, and multiple people died, not from the fire, but from being crushed under a stampede. (Can't remember the concert/venue name, but should be findable on google.) Similarly, there's a reason why you should try to stay calm when fleeing a shark. Sharks are naturally drawn to things that are thrashing around in the water (like a panicked human trying to make it to shore) because it's usually a wounded fish the shark can snack on.

As a substitute teacher that staring teacher's behavior made me cringe so much 😬 we're supposed to act like adults and use our words, not stare people down. Props to that student for standing her ground 👏 Edit: I didn't expect this to start such a conversation, and several good points have been made that I felt were important for me to address: you're very right that I don't have the full context, and I apologize for not getting it before writing my comment. With the context given, it seemed that the student was helping a friend and the teacher was reacting inappropriately. However, even if the student was being repeatedly disrespectful, the next step is sending them to the office and letting a different person manage the student. Teens are teens, every single one is unique and has a life they're trying to make it through. This does not excuse rude and/or intentionally antagonistic behavior from either party. It is a teacher's job to meet in the middle as best they can, and beyond that it's their job to know when they need to take a step back and let someone help with a more stressful situation in a professional and considerate way. Thank you to everyone who takes part in this conversation, the pedagogy of today makes the leaders of tomorrow ❤

THANK YOU. Good teachers like you are so few and far between. (Mostly because of crap pay, and bad treatment from both other staff and students, from what I've heard.) Thank you for sticking with it, and improving kids' lives. You're not "just a sub" to me, and to today's kids who need a stable adult in their lives. Unrelated story: I once had a sub teacher that I already loved because of her fun personality, but one day she cemented herself in my memory as one of the best teachers I've ever had. I had come to class with a skinny kitten abandoned by mama, as I had been bottle feeding her and keeping her warm. My sub teacher noticed this, and asked about it. When I told her the full story, she offered to pay the full cost to get the kitten seen by a vet. As a broke high school student who desperately loved this starved kitten, I almost cried. Point is, your actions make a difference. ❤
