Have you looked at the 1874 Kandiyohi county Atlas ? Would be a great place to start to find old areas.

I have not seen any that old yet. I’ve been using historic aerials but sadly that only goes back to 1955 if I remember correctly. How would I find that old of an atlas? I’m still pretty new to researching locations and permissions.

BeepKeeper Well, you can look online, search your county or surrounding counties and type in Atlas. It took me like 5 minutes to find the year for that county . I would suggest your historical section of your library. They will most likely have an original or reproduction of the 1800's atlas. Your surrounding counties will most likely have a different date, they can very at least 20 years, Like 1859-1889 . Of your local library doesn't have it. Ask the librarian on duty where the largest library in your area of the state might be. I would drive at least 120 miles to attain all the counties for New York. I would buy 11x17 paper, get a bundle. Just in case the library is out. Use that size to make your copies. I always made 2 sets, that way I could write info on them and take them with me . Keep a good clean hard copy set to make more copies of certain areas. Another thing I would suggest is a Delorne Atlas. These are roughly the same size as the copies of the old atlases . These newer atlases are made from recent satellite photos. Then you can go page by page looking for ghost towns. Fairgrounds , houses . And get that treasure atlas I mentioned before. It lists ghost towns. Just so you know, ghost towns are not all abandoned. It might be a case of a town that went from 500 people and with a mining boom or oil or gas might have grown to 15,000-20,000 , then back to 500 or 1,500. Plus there are those towns that are completely gone and it's a field. Like a town near me called California, New York. Just a field you can find pottery shards and glass it's been gone for a 150 years. You have tons of rich history out there. I remember seeing photos of where wagon trains went through in the mid to late 1800's . The ground was worn down like 5 to 6 feet from the wagons. These are the trails you want to find. Lots of great relics to be found. Read local history books, sometimes they are 25 - 80 pages . Local papers put them out when towns celebrated 50 , 75 ,100 or 150 years. Lots of great stuff there. Bring your local historian a box of doughnuts and a smile 😊. They love to talk history.

Hey, nice finds 😊 !. I think I asked you once which program are you using and what power level are you on? You should be able to be getting deeper , but you said you found wheaties on the other side. I might have missed that video. How deep were those?

The deepest coin I’ve found so far with my nox I believe has been about 4 or 5 inches. I usually run in park 1 or 2. Multi Frequency, noise cancel of 5, manual ground balance, 5 tone, accept/reject of -9 and recovery of 4. I’m still kind of learning this unit and playing around a lot with the settings trying to find what works the best. I’ve tried doing some research but have found for some reason a lot of people don’t like sharing their setting info. So it’s been a complete learn as you go with trial and errors lol!

BeepKeeper I'm surprised that people don't show you. If you want to try a bit more hole digging. Try the field 1 or 2 set up 5 tones . Your power or strength I would try around 20 , if it runs stable without falsing a lot bump it up to 22 or 23 . You will also find that iron might make its way on to the digs. You can help to get rid of old nail targets by say you get a 25 28 signal, turn 90° to your target and swing again. , if the target repeats it's worth a try to dig. If it does not repeat, it most likely is trash ( but not necessarily ) . You could possibly have a good coin near a piece of iron or a square nail. This is a very simplistic , generic statement, there are all kinds of potential multiple targets in the same hole , it just becomes experience what to dig and what you are sick of digging. I found a barber quarter under a aluminum ice cream scoop, a seated half dime under a nail and a harmonica reed. And a seated dime in the same hole as 3 nails plus 2 more nails within 8 to 10" . Very ugly sounding signals ,but there was something there which made me dig. I have also dug enough rusty old nails that would fill quite a few coffee cans. It just comes to a point if you know you are in a area that might have been frequented a lot back in the day .

BeepKeeper I'm trying to get out , but we still have 3-4" inches of snow. But I will record some settings and what some ugly targets sound like that might be decent to dig. We are suppose to be in the low 40's Monday. Let's see how that turns out. I will let you know if it pans out.

If you get a chance , check out this guy. He is pretty informative. You can see he is starting to do a old field where an old house stood. Watch his settings, here is a link to it , ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NHdwARmWfeE.html
