Tio, our Maori document is called Te Tiriti 3 paragraphs long, the pakeha version is called the treaty. So much controversy re: 1840 Treaty, should be scrapped & let's go back to the original document He Whakaputanga 1835 signed by the King.
David Lange said this in 1980. "The Treaty of Waitangi was forged in a time when categories mattered, we don't live in that world anymore." In 1973 the UK abandoned NZ for the EEC. NZ went broke overnight. Modernity died. The categories that Lange spoke about are the absolute moral categories of the Bible that are rooted in the Method of Antithesis in human reason process whereby intellectual certainty is guaranteed. It was not practiced consistent with these categories. In our current Postmodern Post-Christian day interpretation of anything is a matter for the individual. There is no universal truth, just what I think. Furthermore the Treaty ignored those that watch both signatories arrive.

Ok. What was on the mind of the British and what was on their heart for a Treaty with Maori in 1840. I see that it was to bring protection, Law and Order for all inhabitants of New Zealand. The British had to have Sovereignty so that they could bring "common Law". Then then had right to Govern this land. The problem as I see it is. That Maori now! have a different view of what the te tiriti and the English version say. For New Zealand "now" to move on, we need to come to a compromise. Otherwise we will always have a problem.
Law and order for all inhabitants 🤣🤣🤣 That’s a good one!!! So…. What part of Law and order involves oppressing and abusing Māori children? I’ll wait…⏰🥱🥱
It sounds good and fair bro but tbh, te tiriti gave Maori everything. They reserved and preserved their tino rangatiratanga and also got rights as British citizens under article 3. Te tiriti didn’t do much for British or settlers. Although they did soon after set up a government and excluded Maori from it. The govt they set up is illegal because it was never agreed to in te tiriti. Te tiriti only have kawanatanga which translates to governorship not government or governance. So we live in a deluded and convoluted world where the settlers rule and some Maori follow along with it to keep the peace and some even love thre world we now live in. But many are disenchanted and disenfranchised. Maori are searching for ways to live better in alignment with what their soul calls for, what their tupuna call for. Te tiriti allows us an avenue to leave this system and set up new system based around tikanga Maori but also probably some good aspects of the English system. Because it’s not all bad. I could go on but to conclude I reckon we use te tiriti to escape this illegal govt and start afresh.
It was to bring law and order to lawless greedy Pakeha that starting arriving to NZ thinking they had land they'd paid the thieving Wakefields. The Government is a fraudulent entity illegally operating on our shores because Pakeha outnumber Maori now. The road to equality is long and twisted but it will eventually occur.
