Honestly never understood why people hate so much on players who’ve been posterized. At least they attempted to block the shot instead of letting them score an easy bucket.

@johnboehmer6683

@ton tin the big laugh about a big man getting posterized is that all of his height and/or strength was overcome, it didn't matter, someone was still able to slam on him despite. But if you look at each of these on Bradley, nobody ever went over the top of him unless he was just getting there too late to jump. He was either being overpowered, which any 226 lb 7 ft 6 guy will be on a regular, or he was simply getting there too late to be in good position. It's happened to every single big man, even Shaq. Why bring race into it?

Shawn Bradley is one of my favorite Mavs of all time. He's probably one of the reasons the Mavs became my secondary team after my Heat. Sure he wasn't the most talented player, but he was very solid in his role. People make fun of Bradley for getting posterized, but I'd rather have my center attempt to block those shots or be in position to do so. I missed Bradley so much after seeing his replacement Erick Dampier (he was solid as well for some seasons) and DeSagana Diop play.

It helps that Cody came into the league with lesser expectations, therefore, he was used better as a complimentary center than trying to shoehorn him into becoming a franchise player. He scores at a high FG%, and one of his better attributes is his quickness in defending perimeter players on PNRs. Difference between Yao and Bradley was first their lower body strength. Yao's legs were very thick and thus by his 2nd or 3rd season he was getting better positioning down low for a easy hook or turnaround jump shots. Plus, Yao had very good footwork in the post and was a very good shooter. Basically better polished offensive game. I think if Bradley had some nasty in him and got stronger he could have at least been a very good defender bc he was quite mobile for a man his size.

He may be on posters, but on each of them, he's defending. I've seen far worse attempts at defense than Bradley. Also, one of the nicest guys I've ever met. Let me tell you, I'm a guy in a wheelchair, and I bet that conversation I had with him in one of the aisles at the store where I met him probably looked so strange to an outsider.

BTW, us older "non American's" from the British Commonwealth would probably use imperial measurements for height too but the metric measurement we would use would be 2.29 metres..... using centimeters like that is probably more common for building industry measurement under a metre.

Dirk made a comment in an interview once about working out all summer. He said something about Bradley who hasn't touched a ball all summer. Dirk seemed to indicate Bradley didn't have the work ethic as a professional.

I don't think Shawn Bradley was that bad of a player. Shawn Bradley was goofy looking, and yes, he got Posterized a lot and, yes, he got punched a lot, but he was a legit player for over a decade and that’s something most NBA players can’t say. He also seems to be enjoying his life after basketball while making a contribution to society - most retired NBA players can’t say that either. "Whose to judge him? Look at all he's accomplished. You're judging him on a twelve year period. He should be judged over the course of his life and what he's able to bring to this world." - Jeff Van Gundy

Bradley wasn't a bust. Averaged as high as 14.6 PPG, 8.8 RPB, sometimes shot over 80% from the line which is nuts for his height, and averaged over 3 BPG 7 times. Loads of lottery picks never come close to any of those numbers.

I feel quite sorry for him getting harsh comments, at that height it would not be very easy running around let alone surviving from disease (forget the name.) I have talked to people who have met Shawn and it seems he is a very good bloke with a lot of heart, I hope he’s doing well for himself

I think he has good agility and speed, unlike other slow big guys, but he is not enough strong. And he never got enough time to adjust himself to be stronger. He is not bad but has more potential.

This dude could reliably give you 2-6 blocks and 6-14 rebounds per night...would usually give you somewhere between 8 to 20 points a night, so no, he wasn't a scrub. He often went after the ball and altered a lot of shots inside. He was just too darn slow and skinny to be a dominant force down low.

Shawn grew up in the county next to the one I grew up in. His school played ours. He dated a girl ar my school for a while. She was way short, like barely 5 feet if that! Is was funny watching them at school dances. He would have to hold her like a toddler while they slow danced.

I don’t think Shawn Bradley would do well in today’s NBA considering in the 90’s and 00’s the center position was dominated by tall physical centers. Now, he may scrape a roster spot. I think he and Tacko Fall are quite similar. But I honestly think Tacko has the higher ceiling.
