For anyone confused: most garages have a small laser that sits about two inches off the ground on the inside pointed at a sensor on the opposite rail. When you walk between the laser sources and the sensor, you block the special light from reaching the sensor. The break in the light stream then is translated by the computer in the sensor to send a signal to the garage to stop and pop back open because someone or something is there.
