As a Raven fan I agree. It definitely sucks that it took him that long. Also we drafted Perriman that same year and if we could have had them both develop decently, that would've been a scary bunch!!
I was at that game ... sitting practically at the 50 yard line among rich old Texas fans ... wearing a hog hat. (Yes I took a bit of abuse). Matt Jones was Superman that day.
When you look at Calvin Johnson’s size is unreal how athletic he was!!! The guy was 6’5” with 36” arms and a 41” vert!!!! His catch radius was gigantic!!!!!
His career was just avg at best unfortunately where you land is a big thing had wr in nfl. If he landed with Manning , brees , Brady etc.. he might be considered better then Owens or moss or rice
Neil Moturi avg at best to me. Empty calories stats that amount to nothing. We all have sre opinions. I like Calvin but such is life when you think of all time greats wr he is not mention close to being those greats with or without an Sb. So to me it’s avg. unfortunately like I said when you got dumb qb throwing the ball it doesn’t help.
Luke Sudul I never said that, on the contraries I said otherwise. if that makes you feel smart yes I’m dumb now that it’s out the way like I said some might think it’s great but I think it’s avg
This series for individual players is great, i'm wondering if you can add a 'what happened to...' for specific teams. Like breaking down the moves that happened for iconic squads and what pivotal transactions/ injuries/ coaching changes happened.
One thing you have to consider for DK Metcalf is his commitment to improving his game, it’s paid off dividends. Super raw physical freak that needed to improve pretty much everything skill wise at his position and he’s done it. That effort on the chase down shows his character.
I still cannot reconcile how this bro was this tall, this thick, and this White, and running 4.3 in the 40. Truly one of the freakiest athletes in history.
Arkansas Razorback fan here. Matt Jones was my childhood. Will always be a legend to me. Could’ve had a really solid NFL career, like you said. He’s actually still doing sports radio here locally!
Yoo I remember watching this game when I was at Pitt...didn’t even go out that night shit was wild to the very end. Thanks for bringing back these memories bro
His numbers were actually much better than I remember. Also didn't know he played QB in college. That being said, I wouldn't consider him a bust like I thought year ago. Love your videos!
People dont know or forgot Matt had great hands. At the combine he out shinned almost all the receivers in the catch drills. He had a ton of spectacular one handed grabs in the league as well.
Jones is a legend to most contemporary Razorback fans, and for a multitude of reasons. Besides being an absolute athletic freak at 6'6 with elite 4.39 - 4.41 speed, he was also an incredibly gifted playmaker -- always calm under pressure (in fact it looked like he just rolled out of bed most of the time before breaking a 70+ yard TD run). Obviously his abilities at quarterback weren't enough to translate to the NFL, which led to his switching to receiver for the senior bowl. Without even having played wideout since high school, he went up against some of the best senior DBs in the nation and was a standout in that senior bowl with 2 receiving TDs. I'm very glad I got to see him play in person twice, including the original "Miracle on Markham" here in Little Rock against Saban's LSU.
I loved watching Jones at Arkansas. It was disappointing to see he wasn't given a chance at quarterback in the NFL. Interesting back story, though. I went to an elite football high school where I was switched to wideout from being a running orientated Q. A lot of sports politics, rumors, same steeze different day. You'r right, though, that switch is a tough blow to absorb.
Dude , I'm a lifelong Razorback fan. This guy, was the guy everybody in the SEC hated to play. Most people thought of him as only a runner, but he could pass too. Unfortunately our coach at the time was allergic to a passing game. Hell, he owned the all time QB rushing record until a few years ago.
Man, I havent thought about Jones for a decade or more. I do remember he was a beast in the NFL for a very brief period. Life is wild but he's one of those special ones.
My assumption about not being qb in high school is that he had no one to throw to. It was probably easier for him to get open as a wr than finding an open guy and that guy catching the ball
Matt played at the same High School that I played. He played under a different head coach that couldn't coach his way out of a wet paper bag. That's why he was put it wide receiver. He was really good and it was a shame that he transferred to Northside. We lost a really good player because of coaches being bullheaded.
I went to Arkansas w/Matt & basketball was definitely his main love. Then maybe golf. And from what I understand he saved all his NFL paychecks, so he’s doing just fine.
There was never before and will never be another Megatron. Elite athletes like him are unique, and don’t give me DK Metcalf until he plays 7-8 years in triple coverage.
Before his time for sure. Today he'd be a nice stretch 4 on the court and a White running Qb with a decent arm today is valued a lot more today and accepted more than the early 2000's. Worse case he's a receiving TE who stretches the Defense.
This dude just tried to compare Matt Jones to Megatron?!? Didn't even watch the whole thing, absurd. He could move nearly as well, this guy doesn't know what talent is, elite talent
@@MyTurtleBarks yeah but he was running by everybody in college and since he’s 6’6 he could just run through people it would be the smarter thing to do
Being a Hogs fan made me appreciate this video even more. Dude was an animal for the Hogs, but made poor choices. How about a McFadden or Felix Jones video??
Great video! I'm a hog fan and most people that know Matt think he's a good guy and now he's back on sports radio. I think his problem was he was always kind of a nonchalant guy who was extremely talented but never seem to really be really focused. Then I think he got mixed up with some lifestyle issues and it just messed his career up. According to people that I know who know Matt he made a good amount of money in the NFL and saved it and was fine with just living his life on his own terms. Now he's back on sports radio and he's very enjoyable and knowledgeable. But we all definitely talk about what could have been because he was truly a freak athlete.
Quick Fun Fact. Hes such a jock..in highschool he actually slept thru a tornado!... While everyone else went and took cover he was in the back of the class sleep. Damage was done to the school... And everyone was freaking out., when it was all over they had to wake him up and tell him what happened.,, looking back on it..HE WAS PROBALY JUST HIGH
While Matt was disappointing it was Blackmon that, imo, was the hardest pill to swallow ever for the teal and black. Watching people throw away their nfl careers is hard to watch.
It’s hard to believe that a civilized society would put its people in a cage and basically let them be mentally and physically tortured for their entire sentence but not for hurting anybody or stealing anything but possessing a product that he purchased and enjoyed.that’s fucking insane
million dollar ability 5 cent head. the issue with so many people and why most dont make it...everyone drafted has the physical skills but is the rare person who has those gifts, the intellect and their head screwed on straight.
