Seems like a story between the Monkey King and the Buddha Disciple(or The Buddha himself in human form ) and two other followers the Pig Demon and a fish demon. I cant remember exactly which, but they accompanied the journey of Buddha as he finds eternal place in Heaven and they had to take the Monkey King with them in their journey as the Heaven punished him for his mischievious and unpredictable nature, as he learns self growth and finally proved he was able to seek redemption becoming a better and wiser entity. As the Monkey King is a strong demon, perhaps the strongest among all demons and could even defeat greater Gods from heaven, he was compelled by Buddha to learn everything about kindness and all the good things the world can offer. As Buddha has no power as a human, the Monkey King is known to be his greatest and fiercest protector, defeating all threats and demons at all costs. In the end, after more than 500 years of torture, he was able to redeem himself and becoming a force of nature that is known for his divine contribution.
The only thing I hate about this is the animators didn’t change his hair from s1 to s2 where he should’ve gone buffier and his hair should’ve looked like himmel in that frieren anime. But trust me this anime is super beautiful. If you like LOTR this is for you.
