I agree with Mimma, although these shows are quite outstanding and just breath taking might I say, they diminish newer designers (competition) making it difficult for other designers to call attention to their brands. If large shows continue (which they will) moderation is key for survival. An over abundance will cause a FASHION INFLATION. I say slow it down designers so I can actually pull out my wallet in time. And can I just say Colin, you are superb and quite brilliant. I adore your talks greatly!
This should be called a head to head Paris round-up. Seems like they're talking about everyone but Ricardo at Givenchy (much less the collection, haha). As usual, Colin and Mimma are fab!
Colin McDowell's enthusiasm and experience is charming, but many of his comments feel like quite offensive and obsolete stereotypes. "Models are quite stupid," "Italian people are vulgar," etc. Someone needs to remind him that he can't quite get away with such un-PC things today. The model comment is downright misogynistic. I get the feeling that perhaps Colin's been desensitized by his decades and decades of living in a superficial bubble of egomaniacal designers and thin models in very expensive dresses.
Givenchy - The makeup sucks shit, the models look ugly and the clothes aren't much better... It was Coco Chanel that broke down the early barriers in fashion and she had to go to American to do it. Paris just didn't get it! Karl, the greatest, check out Paris/Bombay 2011/12, one of my all time favorites, also some of the shows in stately homes and Castles. Karl very rarely uses a runway except for his Fendi collections, even then you had to see the Fendi collection at the Trevi Fountain, brilliant!!!
