showstudio.com/... Mimma Viglezio and Colin McDowell go head to head in a forthright discussion of the Haute Couture A/W 15 shows live on 16 July at 15:00 GMT
Truly offensive to say Raf isn't designing from his heart and his head at Dior. All you have to do is look at the Dior and I documentary and see the pure emotion pouring from that man's soul and its the clear that right now his work is far more inspiring than even three years ago. "I thought a school girl could have made that sheer dress"... dont you think a school girl can make a blue kitchen apron on potato sack dress?
I think Colin is the only person who didn't think the Dior show was so exquisite. Personally I don't know how he can scrutinise a designers work for not being modern whilenwearing that suit...
This discussion is by far one of the best on show studio because it actually involves critique and commentary on the ridiculously rarefied and vaunted world of couture. Essentially, to quote Colin, a discussion with balls.
Bravo, Colin! Finally someone who's got the balls to say things as they are. Relevance is a term commonly used today about design, and I believe it should also be used with the critics. Colin without a doubt is one of the relevant fashion critics.
I totally agree about Raf a designer who changed the game on how menswear in fashion should be worn, presented and very radical. But this collection at Dior plays safe. Rafs strength is Diors pre collections those I love.
Richard Macleod agree, it was a amazing collection without a wow factor, indeed dior became more modern as a whole, while i believe raf should take more risk in haute couture
Just one thing I have to scream about, Colin talks a lot of BS but the worst was him saying Dior's new look wasn't looking back at the Victorians when that was exactly was the inspiration for Dior's new look! The new look was a return to a 19th century silhouette and brought back the laborious methods used in creating couture garments! Also Dior's amazing innovation was done first by Jeanne Lanvin. Colin is hilarious though everything that comes out of his mouth is gives me quite a good laugh, and Mimma is divine I adore her and everything she has to say!
Hmm Colin was too harsh on Raf although Raf isn't may favourite designer you can't deny he is leading fashion forward with his designs at dior and his own label x
I love Colin but he shouldn't be making fun of people on Oxford. They have no taste and don't care about fashion because they can't afford to spend time and money on Galliano or Prada. They have to pay rent and feed themselves and their children. Not spend money on frivolous unnecessary junk. He should leave the regular people out of it. Tasteless and he's just stuck in his own ass. I love him though. Haha.
While I agree with most of the things he says (other than his ridiculous idea of getting rid of s/s & a/w) he is the most pompous person that I can think of , he makes my skin crawl ! Also he got it wrong about raf - he was a menswear designer from the beginning , never did his own womenswear !
