Paula realized something was wrong when she felt pain in her arms and legs. She was taken to The Valley Hospital where she was diagnosed with a metastatic brain tumor. Treating a metastatic brain tumor is a team approach. Oftentimes, a neurologist and neurosurgeon are brought in to discuss if there is a need for brain surgery or not. After a craniotomy, she was also treated with Gamma Knife radiation at Valley's Gamma Knife Center. Paula was very unsure about Gamma Knife and thought it was going to be an invasive type of procedure. Dr. D'Ambrosio helped ease her anxieties and assured her that this was going to be a seamless process. Paula was on her way home the same day her Gamma Knife treatment was complete and was able to get back to her normal routine the following day. Gamma Knife Surgery is able to change the way people think about cancer and puts their minds at ease when a patient is told they have a brain tumor.
