If you pay attention in the game you realize that “dark magic” was studied at hogwarts from the beginning. The notion of the “unforgivable curses” didn’t come until the mid-late 18th century in the HP world. For Medieval & 17th century wizards, these were powerful and dangerous spells but not unforgivable.

@@j-wilkyand the worst thing about it is she didn't even realise what she was doing was so completely demented and horrifying. When I saw her father I was reminded of the Tranquil from the Dragon Age series. If you don't play it Tranquil are mages who have been permanently cut off from their abilities, and spend the rest of their lives not being able to use their magic, dream or feel any emotion.
@kvm1992
@kvm1992 3 месяца назад
@@j-wilky No, no and no. She became powerful yes but not evil. Good intentions bad outcome. There's a difference. Not understanding that is the main problem. It seems the keepers lost the ability to reason and became quick to judge so they killed her instead just to have their selfish ways prevail in the end. What's the point of having ancient magic if not to make the most out of it? They don't understand the capacity of how far ancient magic can go and that which is unknown to them they simply fear it thus became judgmental of her for exploring it. She didn't kill anyone only experimented on them as any typical Ravenclaw would have in her position after witnessing such pain over and over just to test the limits. I understand some lines should never be crossed and perhaps she should have asked for permission to cast the spell on others first instead of freely doing so and maybe she did ask but the end result did not justify the means. She didn't have to die especially for being a healer not a killer. What makes it right for them to be judge, jury and executioner? They didn't have to gang up on her and try to back her into a corner by wanting to take her wand away. She being the defense teacher in all was most definitely going to defend herself. They the ones corrupted for not wanting the word of ancient magic to get out and what good it can do by embracing her accomplishments then leaving my character to keep their secret and clean up their mess of Ranrok uprising so they can get away with murder scott free no questions asked. They only focused on the negative and completely ignored the positives. Her pain extraction spell is incantation less and is not dark magic but healing magic, not an unforgivable curse but an unfathomable cure. Pain itself is a curse especially when it's unwelcomed by those who would have to suffer it for so long. The spell and how it was used is not that much different than how the memory extraction spell is used. Instead of pointing a wand at the temporal lobe and storing the memories in a pensive, a wand user of ancient magic simply point at the heart and pain is then extracted and stored in a repository as storage for ancient magic in the form of corrupted emotions. However, this now red ancient magic traces of corrupted emotions could be thought of as dark magic but simply isn't and while the Dark Arts had a bad reputation, overall, dark magic was not, by definition, "evil" magic, as reflected in some of the people using them not being evil. Dark magic could be used for good as well as evil. The keepers never seen it from that perspective but just instantly became wary of it. Too much of anything is never a good idea, True but absorbing the red ancient magic traces is not so different than consuming potions, especially the maxima and focus potions since it shares the same effects. Isadora said "it's a source of strength - of focus. It enhances my ability to wield magic" so it sems she created magical stimulants which is a good thing not bad but the keepers wouldn't understand that because as stubborn and hypocritical they are they ignored her and had no interest in learning what it is because of the standards of limitation they all set on themselves and expected her to follow the path of their secrets. She was very open minded and ready to teach them.

This kind of opens the possibility to theorize about the creation of dementors. The canon says Ekrizdis possibly created dementors using very dark magic. He tortured soldiers for pleasure and this kind of depicts a horrible scenario. Let me explain. First, Isadora found out how to remove pain from people using ancient magic, and if pain can be manipulated why not happiness as well? Although Isadora's intentions were rooted in kindness, and the story in Hogwarts legacy does not dive into the consequences of depriving someone of pain in the long term, I imagine that a sadistic dark wizard like Ekrizdis in his pursuit of causing more pain would torture his victims so much so that when he deprived them of the little happiness they had left, the amount of pain left behind in the body could only end up in something like a dementor. A creature with so much horror and pain inside that he can only exist by sucking on others' happiness. Think of what it would be like to have one's capacity for happiness taken away. It must be horrible. But this scenario is even more horrifying because if what I theorize is true, Ekrizdis made sure that a lot of pain and trauma was created inside their victims before he took their happiness away. The mere idea is disgusting and fits perfectly with how dementors are described.

@@Epic11705 Reminder that this scene likely takes place in the early 1700s, far before the spells were unforgivable. Even in modern day Wizarding, it's likely the use of the Killing Curse would be pardoned. She had already incapacitated one powerful wizard, was bearing down on two (and wasn't exactly losing). He could have used maybe diffindo, bombarda, or another "less than lethal" curse, sure. But it's likely should would have deflected the spell lock into him and defended herself. The Killing Curse, while frowned upon, is easily warranted here to "reasonably defend" yourself. That being said, it took me by surprise. We are so used to Dark Magic being evil, not to be even thought of being used. To see a main good character use it to defeat an extremally powerful wizard was nice to see. Very anticlamitic route. But that's kind of how the Killing Curse works. It's done. You're dead. No pain, just sudden nothingness.

For all those asking, AVADA KEDAVRA CANNOT BE BLOCKED BY ANY SHIELD SPELLS OR ANOTHER. Only physical options are DODGING, PUTING OBJECTS in front of it. Only magical protection include HAVING TWIN WANDS (those who are made of the same core) which triggers PRIORI INCANTATEM, SACRIFICIAL PROTECTION (which is the only posible option by which you can shield the curse with your own body) as seen when the curse rebounded and "killed" voldemort instead. THE ELDER WAND cannot kill nor harm its true master as seen when voldemrot casted the killing curse on Harry in the forbidden forest or in the final duel. (In the books when harry is seemingly dead in the forest, Voldemort casted the cruciatus curse on what he believed to be harry's corpse but he felt no pain cause he was the true master of the elder wand that was being used by Voldemort). HAVING HORROCRUXES spares you from death in a manner of speaking. The killing curse will physically kill the victim, but the soul will remain in the living world and of course with tHe right ritual can be brought back in a corporeal form. PHOENIXES can be killed with it but will immeadiately be reborn from their ashes due to them being immortal.

That does open an interesting question. If terrain obstacles can block the spell, how much "obstacle" is needed to stop the effect? Can full plate armor negate the Death Curse? The Unforgivable curses were only recently banned by this time so I doubt the proper restrictions and safety measures were in place to allow the ministry of magic to detect when these spells were being fired off. In fact, the “Trace” charm that allowed ministry people to detect underage magic was ineffective at pinpointing who the exact caster of the magic was. That’s why Harry got in trouble when other megical beings cast spells at the Dursely’s because he was the only wizard in the area for miles. The trace would have been wholly ineffective in a place that was entirely inhabited by an entire population of magical people. If you used them to save a great number of people, the use of it would be forgiven. They taught the 3 curses within the Defense Against the Dark Arts class in the fourth year of the movies, in fact; because they had reason to believe the students may be attacked by Voldemort and his death eaters. I somehow feel like the story is kinda rushed in the end. What about the connection between isidora and another female professor (I forget her name). It feels like such a big deal. I Thought the story would be more complicated and while the mission with Sebastian gave me the feeling that somehow the keeper are the bad guys beacuse her painting has been destroyed and someone wants to keep her quite? But it's just a very short and classic villain story. She wants to heal people but got corrupt and goes insane.😂 But it's still a good game though. Maybe I'm just overthinking. And also what about the promise with healing Sebastians sister with ancient magic? They just never be heard of anymore.
@Jiminsaie
@Jiminsaie Год назад
No, you're right. Her image has been destroyed, we only know the memories of Keepers. I was surprised at how short and quick the trial was from Professor Niamh Fitzgerald. Not to mention that the trial of San Bakar was only his memories. I think, personally, that there are more interesting details here that, for some reason, all four have not said and are not saying. The destroyed image of Isidora, already proves something. Even our character says that "it's strange, but no one appears in the painting," which of course is drowned out by Sebastian's dialogue. I think the creators left themselves an open field to possibly release DLC and add to the story, because I think Isidora herself would change a lot, especially the story told through her eyes. And, as you mentioned yourself, Sebastian's promise and help to heal his sister. There are many threads that have seemingly come to an end, but the truth is that they are still open. And let's remember that we started in the 5th year at Hogwarts, and every student has 7 years of study there, so in theory we have 2 more years :P

The implication appears to be that in removing a pain she, whether intentionally or not, was removing part of the soul. A good comparison I saw someone make was that it is effectively what Dementors do in reverse. Isidora may have been taking something unpleasant, but she was still taking something that is key to a person. Moreover, what clearly started out with good intentions was eventually blinded by arrogance (there is also the potential implication that the magic itself may be so dangerous that it messed with her mind which...is kind of a thing with certain magics in Harry Potter; play around with the wrong magics too much and you can go off the deep end).
@Null_Experis
@Null_Experis Год назад
Pain provides context for other emotions. Without it, they stop being special and you have no frame of reference for the positive ones. Suffering is the constant companion of all life, and you cannot escape it. To attempt to do so is to deny part of what makes life worth living.

I don't understand the argument of it being less morally questionable than it's depicted... Death is irreversible where as someone can be healed if they manage to live from most charms/spells, it also requires you to fully intend on killing that person, you have to want it badly and either hate that person or have some ulterior motive that they stand in the way of that you believe requires it's use, that takes a serious toll on people's minds and you'd have to have the strongest will ever to be able to do this often, which is why all the "non-evil" characters use it as a last resort, even though Sebastian didn't want to hurt you he could cast Crucio purely because he wanted to save Anne and his devotion to doing so allowed him to cast multiple unforgivable curses despite not wanting harm upon others and being relatively kind in nature albeit troubled, I think Avada Kedavra was the exception however because in the heat of the moment he was enraged and eventually comes to realise his mistake

A tip of advice, if a death is instant and there are no signs of death, then it is affecting something you can't see. For the curse, it attacks the soul, ripping it out of the person's body, and according it's most popular caster, it is not painless to the soul. Additionally, be honest, in what world would an instant death spell that relies on intent to kill not be made illegal or looked at badly? You are focusing on the pain factor vs what the spell can do and how it works. No one would know the full gravity of the curse unless if they survived to tell the tale. Cruciatus Curse: Affects: Body Intent: Torture Effect: immense pain and insanity after a whole Use: Torture people. Resistance: None, only avoidance. Imperius Curse: Affects: Mind Intent: Dominate Effect: Turns someone into a slave. Use: Control people and Resistance: Very few people can resist it. Killing Curse: Affects: Spirit Intent: Kill Effect: Instantly kills someone by ripping out their soul. Use: Killing someone. Resistance: None, only avoidance.

That would be cool cus the game reminds me so much of red dead redemption 2 but with magic litterally. And maybe you could be able to KILL these npcs? And if another npc saw you do that, you would either have to kill them as well and run away or like capture them with some kind of spell or something. The curses Imperio, Crucio and Avada Kedabra were forbidden 1717. I don’t remember how, but I know these events happened during the Tudor Dynasty, so they were not unforgivable yet.

techniqually it was san bakar not niam fetsgerald that cast the avada kedavra curse. niam was the headmistriss not headmaster due to being a woman while san bakar was a professor. it is understandable why he cast the curse because the entire school was in danger from isodora's spells. not to mention that isodora was clearly trying/planning on killing the headmistriss & 3 professors. there should be very rare occasions where the use of the killing curse should be allowed like when many people are in danger of being killed & there is no real time for a less drastic solution to be used. the turture & mind control curses not really. the killing, torture, & mind control curses were called unforgivable because they only have 1 form of funtion where as nearly all other spells have multiple uses. the only way the wand ban is ever going to be lifted is for enough wizards make a strong enough push that successfully removes it from law.

You might want to update the title as San Bakar is not actually the headmaster but rather just a Hogwarts Professor. Niamh Fitzgerald was the Headmistress at the time and this is actually revealed in game.

You do realize San Bakar was not the headmaster of Hogwarts but the lady who got hurt in the fight, right? Her trial took place in the headmaster's office, you can't be more evident.

Didn't Voldemort say that the feeling of being hit by Avada Kedavra is pain beyond pain?

Personally I think they should've scrapped the whole goblin rebellion plot and focused on the keepers and Isadora instead. The goblin stuff feels so unconnected to the main character, not to mention Ranrok is just a very uninteresting villain, in my opinion.
