I didn’t go through a break up with a kid, but I did go through a break up from a toxic relationship. Nothing helped better than being alone and learned to love myself and learn to be alone and not depend on no one to be happy. It’s so good to be back hanging out with my friends, not worried about what someone might be doing behind my back, not worried about anything. In such a better mindset now. I didn’t have kids with my ex fiancé but I was with him for almost 8 years. We have been broken up for 1 month now and it’s so hard. He was a narcissist so he left me emotionally damaged and traumatized. I have my days where I’m okay and I have my days where I’m really depressed but I’m glad I got out that situation. It took me years to leave but I’m finally done.

Definitely resonate with your notion of imagining being in the same stagnation of a toxic situation in years from now.. It was so hard for me to leave my first love, I felt so miserable and STUCK, even though I was incredibly unhappy I just couldn’t let go (he would beg me to stay 🤡). I didn’t recognise myself anymore I lost all joy & self confidence, my heart was hurting all the time. The moment it really clicked for me was when I heard someone say “what’s worse than being miserable for 3 years?” - ”being miserable for 3 years + 1 day..” , and honestly that was what made the mental switch for me. I garnered the strength to remove myself, to just let tf go. Looking back I can’t even believe I allowed myself to be in that dark space for so long, I feel like a new girl! It’s true, you’re not ready to leave until you’re READY to leave. No matter how many people tell you to go, or how “done” you think you are..
