Toni reminds me of my sister. She is the oldest, the "golden child." Sometimes parents put a lot of responsibility on the oldest child and it's really not fair.

@@onalennanhema1573I think it’s deeper than that. These are women in their 40s/50s. There’s love there, but they all don’t necessarily like one another. That’s ok, but rather than work to find a happy medium that everyone is comfortable with, some folks are trying to create it on their terms which is where some of the conflict comes from.

Ms. Evelyn is living vicariously through her daughters and their success in fame. According to the biopic of Toni Braxton movie, Ms. Evelyn was extremely close in being a part of singing girl group. Tracy was the one who encouraged that Toni go solo and not be part of The Braxtons. (This was Ms. E dreams). I personally think because things did not go the way as planned for Miss E life. Being married, having children, betrayal of divorce. She's causing chaos and confusion in her own family and needs extensive therapy. Ms. E is a baby boomer and NO ONE can tell her nothing. Also, Ms. E will probably not take any accountability for causing chaos and confusion. Remember, fix my life with Iyanla. Ms. E was the elephant in the room? Most black matriarchs of the American, African and Caribbean family due to her strength and discipline can raise a successful child to an adult. Can be toxic due to ignorance. Ms. E is like the Joe Jackson to the Braxton's. This episode was so triggering. Just like Kirk Franklin "Father's Day" documentary with his mother and his Aunt. I'm praying for Traci's son and husband.

THANK YOU! People trying to make Towanda the villain through their projection but to me it's very clear through what she's saying AND behaving she's PROTECTING HER PEACE. Tamar can be exhausting and not everybody has the capacity to mentally deal with that and cope. Toni being left out of the loop makes sense to me too 🤷🏾‍♀️ Toni seems to twist everything back on herself if not just takes everything on. Sometimes you just want to talk and be supported and not be dumped on

Grief is often not covered for the experience of siblings grieving the loss of one of their own. Folks give credence to parents who lose an adult child and to spouses, but often the sibling is left to pick up the pieces on their own. I am grateful for the Braxton sisters gibing folks an inside look, and I believe it will help others seek out therapy to assist them on their grief journey.

On an episode of Iyanla Vanzant…Fix My Life when the Braxtons were on, several sisters said, Tamar was more like their Mom, Evelyn than any of the other sisters. I can see that more and more now. Evelyn is always manipulating the sisters by telling them they have to look out for each other and mainly emphasizing that to Toni being the oldest. This must have been traumatic and triggering some times. I remember Toni said to Iyanla if they were not her sisters, they would definitely not be people she’d choose as friends in real life because they carried too much drama. Traci had a lot of problems with Tamar because it appears Traci would call Tamar out on her BS and Tamar would always make it about her. Sad.

Tamar is exhausting, and I think after Traci's death, Towanda has a new set of priorities and outlook on life, which boundaries are now in place. Towanda has chosen not to partake in Tamar's foolishness anymore because life truly is too short. I totally get that.

I was crying like a baby during this episode but I agree that this is not our family so there is no need to drag them for how they are healing through their relationships. That said: one of the most frustrating things about the family dynamic is the inability to communicate clearly. I’m an Aries, I can’t stand when people don’t just come out and say it. - With Tamar- her reaction to Kevin’s arrest was very inappropriate imo. I agree with Trina it truly had nothing to do with Kevin but how she didn’t feel connected with Towanda. Then all the cutting up was of course so immature when she could have just said “I understand this isn’t your place to tell me but this is not the first time I’ve felt silenced and even left out by you Towanda. I want to have a close relationship but I feel rejected by you” - With Towanda. She matched Tamar’s energy and started talking in riddles. Instead of saying “I meet people where they are” which wasn’t specific and felt like a dig. She could’ve just said “Tamar when you behave like this it makes me defensive. I’m dealing with so much already and I need space to decide how I want to move forward. I’m not ending things between us but I don’t want feel pressured to engage right now” The list can go on! All these scriptures and riddles and fables have to stop. Speak clearly and directly and resolve it. The energy went left for no reason.

I agree that we should not be mean and hateful with our comments. I won't call anyone a villain but watching The Braxton Family Values we witnessed season after season and saw how Traci was treated. I found it interesting that Ms. Evelyn said she prayed that the sisters would forgive each other but they are witnessing her unforgiveness of her Ex Husband. 20 years and we are still rolling our eyes at the man on Zoom. Also she needs to stop saying everyone is acting up and treating each other bad when it is not everyone. The last episode of the show before they took a break from doing the show EVERYONE got along Beautifully without Tamar being there🤷‍♀️

Toni has over and over expresssed how Evelyn caused her trauma about putting her sisters first. Evelyn must apologise and do therapy with Toni. What Evelyn did was too much of a burden for a child.

This is why I just can not tune in anymore. It is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too sad and depressing. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Toni #1 and her sisters/family and what they have brought to all of us, but maybe a little more time was needed before recording a reality show. I RESPECT them; however, because doing this out loud take STRENGTH! They are blessed to have each other.

Hi Kempire, I think the family separated after Tracy‘s passing because she was suffering and like Miss Evelyn said it was a relief to see her go and be at peace with no more suffering. They separated so they could cope individually and try to move on from the sadness. They did not want to stay in mourning with Trina for their own mental health. More than likely, they wanted to move on so they could cope with the great loss of Tracey at such a young age.

Toni is very considerate, very mature, and very mindful. She always has been! I agree with you. Toni was there for all of her sisters emotionally and financially while Evelyn was there physically. She may have missed the mark in other areas when raising them.

I restarted watching Braxton Family Values after the first episode of the new show. My heart goes out to this family. Looking back there were always deep rooted issues and they’ve always lacked the tools to get through their traumas. I pray for their healing. 🙏🏾

And I don’t feel like any of them specifically are the villain but it’s hard not to see Tamar as a common denominator when she acts so erratically. I sympathize with Toni but she really has to start genuinely working on letting the guilt go. It’s turned into her crutch for not living out loud and some may see that as victimizing herself. Live your life Toni. Stop apologizing, stop requiring yourself to carry their burdens.

Unfortunately, I missed the first episode but I caught the second.... like many as a 30something who feels like I grew with these ladies in this family..... I do feel sad and disappointed with them as a family. They are so Blessed, and privileged on many levels.. they have just had an experience like no other losing a sister.... we've watched them to therapy 50-11 times, we've watched ms.evelyn go off, yell and cry too many times to recall.... and they still can't come together in a room with positivity and love for one another. The footage of Traci broke my heart in addition to their drama so I won't be watching anymore.

I think Toni and Tamar are still close because she was referring to towanda when she said she wasn’t begging for sisterhood so that lets me know she doesn’t have an issue with Toni nor Trina . I know if towanda wasn’t sitting between them they would be side by side. Toni definitely not the villain she more distant than anything. I notice at the end Tamar ask Toni does she wants to Taste the tea that shows they bond are still the same.

I really appreciate how level headed and fair your commentary is. It’s so refreshing and lends to your credibility. Regarding the episode, I used to think Tawanda was the villain but seeing Tamar’s behavior in recent years and how she’s tarnished relationships with the girls from the Real, to Dish Nation to Kandi, she is the common denominator. She has a horrible personality and never takes any accountability. I find watching her tiring so I couldn’t imagine having a relationship with her. So I no longer think Tawanda is the villain. I think she’s just over Tamar’s behavior and isn’t willing to tolerate it. And I don’t blame her.

The Braxton family are still grieving the death of granddaughter/niece Lauren Braxton 24, who was the daughter of Toni’s younger brother Michael Conrad Braxton Jr., died on April 29, 2019 in Maryland of heroin overdose and fentanyl intoxication. Trina is still grieving over Gabe’s death as well so it’s a lot for her to deal with losing Traci too.

There are so many factors that contribute to the dysfunction of the sisters; however, I do want to point out a couple. First, the parents (Evelyn and Michael) are a HUGE component for their behavior. The Dad cheating and leaving, and the Mom, while she is in her right to feel how she feels, she has transferred some of her bitterness into those ladies. Also, the fact that she continues to try to make them get along and not really talk about their issues is a GIANT problem...just because you are family/blood does not mean you have to get along, even like each other. Tamar is a lot and, for me, I would not want to be around her frequently, even occasionally. Her energy and behavior would not harmonize well with me, and I'm sure some of them feel the same way. The way the sisters show up in their relationships i.e. friendship and romantic relationships, stem from their parent's relationship...it has trickle down to them. Second, secrets are a problem in this family, hence the parents. Traci and Tamar alluded to the fact that they were SA by a family member, and Evelyn seems like the type who, in the midst of a burning house, is going to have everyone stay calm, keep up appearances and wear a mask so that everyone believes that everything looks okay, even when it is not.

Not labeling anyone in the family as villian but I feel Torwanda does not respond to Tamar the way she says. Let's not forget the banging on the table she did at that dinner and the melt down. If she doesn't speak to Tamar, it's ok to keep her space and boundaries. BUT keep the same energy on screen. Torwanda, clearly, hold grudges and it was made evident when she brought up the bday. Another example is a show called STARTING OVER where Iyanla was still Rhonda, a life coach, Torwanda was on it. She invited Tarmar and express her anger at Tamar getting a solo deal. I think Tamar's solo success and the spin off TAMAR & VINCE was and still is triggerering for Torwanda. I have 5 sisters and there’s a little personality of each sisters as a combination. My traits are like Trina bc I’m really emotional. Torwanda bc I hold grudges and create boundaries. Traci bc I’m always wanted on the family trips/gatherings for the laugh. I worry and try to take care of my siblings. I had 3 brothers and 2 passed.(really 3 bc my Mom raised my Nephew who died, suddenly at 28 of a massive stroke)My brother feels his place is like Toni(he doesn’t say it but shows it) and he has to take care of us all. Grief NEVER ends, it just looks and feels differently on each day.

Great commentary! I look at their show for entertainment purposes only. The family is a celebrity family (thanks Toni) but to me they are regular people...their family go through it as every family does. I truly think that Ms. E is a primary problem, not the only problem but things start at home. Idk if she did or not but she should've received help with getting over whatever her husband did. She clearly is NOT over that!

They all contribute to the issues and the family dynamic. Trina made an observation about their habits when communicating....not being direct with the person they have the issue with. I doubt Ms. E will ever give them permission to break free of this perpetual toxic cycle. She would have to be aware and admit some things. They don't need her permission though and I pray they understand that she will be okay if they don't follow her lead and do everything she wants them to do. If you haven't seen it before, look up Iylana's show - Starting Over. We're talking decades of compounded issues with little to no resolution.

Too many red flags 🚩🚩 1- calling Kevin jr Traci son 2- Kevin jr not sharing his issues with them most specifically Tamar even tho she claims to have a relationship with him clearly it’s not that deep or close 3-Tamar not knowing Traci fav movie 4- their reaction to Kevin jr is very cold distant they didn’t prioritize him he should’ve been the one starting therapy session not the sisters

I appreciate the courage in being this open in such a difficult time. Their relationships are complicated. They were used to Tamar being Tamar in a closed environment, but Tamar being Tamar on a national platform may be too hard for them to take. I don't think that their relationships have been the same since. It seems that while Trina and Tamar, and Toni and Tamar still have a relationship...they don't share secrets with Tamar. Towanda is just done. Every time Tamar mentions that they don't talk and she never knows the secrets...I flash back to the early years when she told all of their business. And...when the show started, Tamar was the one financially supporting the family right? Didn't she also hold that over their heads? I also really wonder about celebrity siblings. Toni has talked about her mother pushing her to bring her sisters alone. Brandy has mentioned the same with Ray J. It really makes me wonder.

I love ❤the Braxtons. Mama E definitely is the main problem. She definitely rolled her eyes at Mike Sr..she’s still holding a grudge against that man…Toni feels guilty. She has survivors remorse. I feel bad for her. Tamar needs to grow up up. Towanda is protecting her peace. Trina is the calming spirit.

Heeeyyy Kempire u had some valid points. I do think that Towanda is frustrated with Tamar always being rewarded for her negative behavior. I started season 2ish when Tamar failed to tell them she was getting the Tamar & Vince show and then shortly after she was doing a solo album. She always lied or wasn't completely honest. I think Towanda wanted the Braxtons to have the success of girl groups like swv or xscape. They didn't have enuff relevance to be on an Ole skool tour.

Me either! I can’t watch! After I saw the episode with Traci crying because her sister said she was dead to them! That was all I needed to hear and that made me so furious! You never say things like that out of your mouth! That was so heartbreaking! Tracy probably kept that hurt deeply inside ans tried to move on during her illness, but these sisters are something for sure.

Idk what Trina nor Toni was talking about acting like they have to be everything for everyone… 1. Categorizing letting your sisters sing backup for you as always having to take care of them is a *major* stretch. 2. Judging from what they’ve always shown us, none of them think Toni is perfect. Idk where she got that from. 3. We’ve never seen neither Trina nor Toni have to be there for everyone or take care of everyone… but we *for sure* have seen that be Tawanda. Both on bfv and on this new show, Tawanda is the one who takes care of everyone and has to eat everyone’s feelings and has to always be “the strong one” and never show emotions. I was actually *genuinely* shocked that Tawanda was able to sit there and listen to them talk like that without checking them both. I wanted to jump in there and check them *for* her. 😂 But I guess that’s what makes her the backbone…

I loved and appreciate this recap! I love watching the Braxtons! This episode was real and raw. It is interesting that in a grief therapy session that so much stuff surfaces other than the grief itself! Yes Kempire we are all triggered one way or another for different reasons. My relationship with my only living brother ( at least that I know of. That’s a whole other story) is so toxic that we really don’t speak unless absolutely necessary. When Miss Evelyn went off on everyone you would think that it made me feel like I need to try to reconcile with my brother! Full stop! Wrong! I honestly don’t want anything to do with that man! We could definitely use family therapy! I shudder to think that a therapist might try to encourage me to make things right with him. It’s so deep, wounds are so old with new ones on top! Not even remotely interested in picking at those scabs! Heaven help us all! 😩Thank you for sharing and delving into this family’s issues in spite of your own recent experiences with the loss of your own loved ones.😘XOXO

I wish each Braxton sister can talk to each other with truth because how many people do they have to lose before they sit on their pain in silence? Whatever a sister has going on with another sister or sisters, go to them and TALK it out to come to a resolution. Conflict doesn’t have to be negative; if they want to move forward, conflict can lead to resolution and healing. I hope they get it together before another traumatic experience.

The entertaining piece for me is so many people trip over themselves to replicate this make believe reality. Stay in your swim lane and enjoy it. your own life. Ms Evelyn is the common denominator. Each sister has their own personality and they don't seem to have a good relationship. People are hilarious when they put on the facade of a perfect home life. Family is who you deem it to be. Just because you are my relative doesn't mean you have proximity to me!

Ms Evelyn is definitely the problem. She’s one of those mothers who raises children not adults and then expects adult behaviour. She is a controlling and domineering presence who is also very entitled. You can imagine she thought Toni’s success was her success and she wanted to be the centre. I hate how she scolds them like children when they disagree. This might very well be my own trauma cause I have 3 sisters and a mama just like miss E with a daddy who left her and remarried and she never let us forget. This might be all me chiiile 😢

Is Trina the forgotten child? It’s only a year and a couple of months separating Towanda and Trina. I wonder if it was an expectation of if Towanda is at a development milestone Trina must be there too? I also wondering after going back and watching BFV and now the Braxton if Toni took care of Towanda and Traci took care of Trina when they were baby and even more to help their mom out when Tamar was born. That why it feels to me that Trina felt she need/wanted to be there for Traci to take her last breath. And maybe that why she has such an helpful attitude towards her mother because that was probably the only way she really could get attention from her.

Trina has always been my favorite. She is honest and real, and she seems like a great person and friend. That said, someone showed me how Towanda is messy, but no one sees it because she is considered the responsible one. Traci even called her out for liking mess when they had that big blow up during Tamar's bdy getaway when she didn't want to share her bdy with Traci. I was shocked when Traci said that because I thought her and Towanda were really close. Apparently, the whole family can see that Towanda is FOS! Overall, I like all of them, and I hope these ladies can heal and mend their relationships. Kempire!!! I agree with you about every sister will not have a close sisterhood and it is okay. I'm not close to my sister cause she is lies, is messy, snitches all the time, throws rocks, and hides her hand, etc. She wondered why we weren't close...so I told her, and she acted shocked. I was like..."Girl! You know you!" We are still cool, and I love her to death, but we are very different and just not sisters that have ever hung out together like that, and we're close in age.

Towanda keeps a grudge. I believe she’s never gotten over Tamar exposing that she was buying her cars that Towanda’s husband at the time was driving around. Tamar disrespected every single one of her sisters, she can’t blame how they react.

I never saw jealousy, I see sick of her antics. With all the mess that always follows Tamar just online, I can imagine how much energy it takes to maintain a real relationship with Tamar. All Tamar friends are low-key fans so they keep a superficial relationship and gas her up & agree to everything she wants. Like Tracy told Tamar, I love you but sometimes I just don't like you. I think Tamar makes all of them pay because she was molested.

Tamar wasn’t expressing her grievances with the sisters she was expressing her grievance with Towanda and that’s also what Tamar does that gets on my damn nerves. Stop talking around things and speak to who and what you have an issue with. Then talking over Towanda laughing smirking only validates why Towanda don’t fuck with you. Many times Tamar feelings are valid but it’s how she expresses and delivers those issues that’s the problem. You literally in a therapy session still having a tantrum to the point the mediator couldn’t even control the interaction. It’s exhausting…

Regarding Towanda vs Tamar, I think that Towanda is turned off by the fact that Tamar’s ego is on 10 when Toni is actually the most successful of the bunch. Tamar’s obnoxious personality has probably always been there and the fame made it worse.

I don't know who needs to hear this but you DO NOT have to have a relationship with your family members if you don't want to. Love shouldn't be this hard. If someone in your life is causing more stress than happiness… Let them go. I don't think these women like each other. I think that they love each other deep down, but I don't think that they like each other as people. That's fine! I think the real issue is that they were taught the family is the most important thing and you should always care about family and put family before anything else. That has created resentment because they really don't like one another. So, they're forcing themselves to foster relationships that they no longer want. It's madness.

I really like and enjoy watching the Braxton family. They are funny and talented and Ms. E is fierce! But they seem to believe that as adult siblings, they're still supposed to act like little girls in the same house. They are grown women with adult lives. They don't need to (or should) be that deep into each other's personal lives. Step back. Give each other some space and respect one another as adults and one another's privacy and boundaries. BTW - stop expecting other people to fix your childhood trauma. As adults, we're all responsible for seeking our own peace.

Traci was treated like an outsider of the family. They will have no healing with Tamar in the mix, she makes it about herself. Tamar treated Traci & her husband bad on the show. Now, they are using Kevin jr. as a storyline is not cool. Where was all this love for him before Traci's passing? Tamar & Everlyn are 2 peas in a pod...Toxic. Mommie Dearest aka Everlyn is the root cause of their dysfunction who coerced Toni to supply the sisters need. None of them did right by Traci.

I don't think they should've returned. None of this looks good or enjoyable to watch, as it was years ago. However, I'm glad that others are able to see Towanda for who she is. She is not innocent, AT ALL. It's easy to make Tamar look like the problem, simply because of personality differences. And she's vocal. Being vocal is not always the problem. Being sneaky and hateful, is.
