I agree wholeheartedly with you about the medical profession, it is a business and not about people. It is expensive to have all that work done and the amount paid out of pocket before anything is covered is ridiculous!! We're in the US and the Dr's we go to (hubby and I) do the same thing. When my husband had his blood work done they told him his cholesterol was high (he's 67) and so they immediately gave him a prescription which he never got filled just changed his lifestyle and now it's well within the normal range. Please do videos about what changes you're making and how it is working for you. Good luck!!

I am glad youre confident where youre going!! I live in the medical system, we are single income, and our medical expenses outstrip what we spend on food. We send about $800 month on medical bills, not including out of pockets for all the surgeries Ive had . i have in clinic treatments every 8 weeks, bloods almost every month, and i get no concessions. I even did a- degree - pathology, pharmacology and nutrition to try to help work out why i was sick, yet years later here i am. But I had to pull out of a masters due to illness. the financial costs are crippling. We too have to same payment set up as you mentioned. I understand why they charge what they do. But - i hate that when you go to specialists, they still get paid if you dont get well, and theres a sense of blame on the patient from some professionals. We now know Ive live my whole life with severe endometriosis AND adenomyosis, and so anaemic i required iron infusions every 2 to 3 months. I could go on forever, but Ive spent my whole life trying to be well, get well, never happened. the medical proffession isnt set up for ppl with silent invisible pain and illnesses.

@@LiveItLikeLisa Thx Lisa - but I trained as a practitioner in naturopathy and nutritional medicine, when our kids hit high school, then went onto my medical science degree, and have been a devoted student of food, diet theory, cooking, food chemisrty and biochemistry since i was a teenager. Def not much I dont know. But when youre born with scoliosis, endometriosis and andenomyosis and Ehlers Danlos syndrome - all undiagnosed until its too late, there is an aweful lot that can go wrong, and the best diets and supplements can only help manage symptoms. I def ok with my life - we dont choose what we are born with. Trust me, health, mobility and being happy in my body is a life long job! But Ive still worked part time in my life and taking a break while going thru the loss of elderly parents and other ailing ollder family members. Life is about people and getting thru it with what you have - my life could be a lot worse. Youre in a good place - youre doing a great job being diligent. Hi Lisa, definitely do what’s right for you regarding medication. I do take bp meds but have cut dosage in half and hope to get off it just by tweaking my lifestyle choices more. I should also take cholesterol meds (borderline only) but refuse, told the doctor I’d rather die than take statins and if they feel so strongly about it give me a referral to a cardiologist. That was not forthcoming so I guess I’m not bad enough to waste a cardiologist time 🤷🏻‍♀️ Look forward to your updates on your health changes.

Hi Lisa, 54 yo here with type 2 Diabetes, have been diagnosed for some time now. I was close to 100kg when first diagnosed and now 80kg. When I was first diagnosed I was put on Metformin which did not agree with me and after a few years I told my dr to give me insulin. I HAVE NOT managed my diabetes very well. But a few weeks ago had the full set of bloods.....Blood pressure was through the roof, although I felt fine. When I went back for test results the DR said she didn't know where to start with me. She said I was at high risk of having a stroke. so she put me on Chloesterol tabs, said after a week start taking Metformin so that if I had any reactions I would know what the issue was. Meanwhile I am taking D3 vitamin D 1000 daily and also my B12 was so low so now I am taking that as well, oh and a multivitamin. Make sure any vitamins are the activated ones. I am still taking my insulin as well. Its been about 3 weeks and all is going well with the meds. I suppose next lot of bloods will tell. If you want help with your lifestyle, ask your GP for a health care plan for Diabetes. You will need to make sure you are booking in for a Health Care Plan as you will need to see the nurse as well as the GP. You will get to see a dietician, podiatrist, endocrinologist and more. Its really worth it and should be free 5 visits. Good luck with it all.

I agree with you 100% about the med establishment. I got dx with m.s. when I was 33 and I will never forget the day after, I asked my husband to get me a box of Dunkin’ donuts donut holes cause I was craving the,. As I was eating the donut holes, my neurologist walks in and suddenly a pang of guilt came over me because I knew I shouldn’t be eating them and I told my neurologist, “oh…I shouldn’t be eating these, right?” And her response.. “oh no! You can eat whatever you want, just take your medicine!” Well I was taking the medicine and was declining losing my ability to walk. So I researched and did all the non conventional things to heal my immune system and have been m.s. free for almost 9 years! (I’m 47, now, and am and always was on the thin side..which I took advantage of cause I used to eat all day long and never gain weight.) Also I’m just like you, hate drs and haven’t been back since my last mri where my lesions in my brain and spinal cord were all gone except for 2 lesions that shrunk tremendously from last mri check. Hey Lisa, I have been working in the medical field for many years now (nursing and admin side, not a Doctor). Just thought I could help you a bit. Your results for diabetes might be on your health record online, but if your result was only slightly over normal range I would say its considered more pre diabetes which jumping straight on Metformin for seems ridiculous. There are lots of supplementary medicines that help with diabetes management. Losing weight would obviously help both with your blood pressure and potential diabetes. As for the blood pressure, if you feel that you aren't experiencing that at home you could buy yourself a BP machine and track that at home daily. I used to have patients that did that and would bring a written log to their GP. If you do have diabetes also, you can ask your doctor for a Care Plan, where you can get free or subsidised allied health care like dietitian, exercise physiologist etc. All the best!

As you say, we know that we need to make changes but as long as nothing serious happens, we turn a blind eye to it. I agree with you about medications causing a cascade of problems but doctors are all about treating the symptoms rather than the cause :-( You probably know this already but if you eat low carb, you won't need Metformin or any other type 2 diabetes medication. Oh wow that’s really so sad and upsetting and to think so many people were involved in your sisters care yet not caring about the basics. I had similiar experiences with my dad when he had home care looking after him. I had to ring up on quite a few occasions to enquire about things that just weren’t being done. They were showering him, they weren’t cleaning his home, there was alot of care lacking unfortunately. Though I can not fault the place where he is now. They are so good!

Ohh thanks lovely, it’s probably a lot of the carb bloat going down at the moment, then the real fat loss should kick in.
