Healthy Chickens: Regular Worming Treatment

Keeping our chickens healthy is very important to us. We give them a prophylactic worming treatment every 6 months in March and September. This reduces the risks of intestinal worms which can have a devastating effect on the general wellbeing of the flock.

I know with some wormers you cannot consume the eggs for several weeks after. Is this an issue with this wormer?

What would you recommend for three bantams about 9-10 weeks old! complete novice here, Ive watched some vids on apple cider vinegar, garlic and pumpkin seeds, but im getting an over load of advice :/ thank you.

Hi, do you have any reason to believe they have worms at the moment? If not, I would wait until they are fully grown and then worm with Flubenvet - its the only medically tested worming treatment. Herbal treatments will probably do no harm but they are unlikely to remove a serious worm burden. My attitude to chicken health is to ask a qualified veterinary surgeon 🙂

@@ASmileAdayful You can normally see symptoms in the faeces (intestinal worms) or gasping (gape worm). If there's no immediate symptoms I would wait until they are fully grown.

I'm sorry I don't know. I assume it would still be called Flubenvet but as I'm not in the States I'm not familiar with the medications available.

Hi Fiona, sorry to trouble you, but ive found a bunch of what looks like skinny noodles and presume they are worms in the coop :( we have three 11 week old hens, only had them 2 weeks, I did give them some applecider vinegar and garlic water once over the last two weeks! would a bunch of worms mean its killed them, or would i still need to buy what your recommending please......... Ive just seen i enquired 3 weeks ago, and you replied to me, sorry ill contact a vet. thank you. I want to cry :(

Hi, don't be too upset, worming animals is a normal and routine part of livestock husbandry. A course of flubenvet will fix the situation.

@@EnglishCountryLife ty Fiona, any ideas where I can get it for growers, I can only find layer pellets😔 we have only ever had a rabbit before about 25 Yr ago😂 bit daunting.
