Great content miss Irina!! I'm learning as an adult for 1 year and I wish my teacher teached me these techniques, because I struggle still a lit with wrist movement and stiffness, and now I know why! I will practice your exercices. This is useful for begginers, not only children :)
Very nice presentation. All arts are accomplished with the same gesture. It is how the soul expresses itself. Claudio Arrau says this in a rare interview.
It is typical russian-east european method explained.Every Kid lerans from the beginning these basic elements of how to have a right posture, how to transfer the weight through each fingertip of the hand etc...It is the only method, when appropriate used not to cause tension and missdevelopement of technique.
I love the monkey! I'm using that idea for sure! I talk about "zombie arms" for the floating arms concept. How upper arms get tired but hands are loose and relaxed. I have an older adult student who never learned these concepts. She's been working hard to correct technique due to pain from poor technique. I wonder if she'd like the monkey too! Haha
+Kim pianohands (fortepiano) Thank you so much!If you are interested in my methods, please take a look at "Tales of a Musical Journey" at Amazon.com and www.gorinpianotales.org
I join the commentators below, this is a great and very important lesson, and not only for beginners, but also with more advanced students with less than optimal organization of the movement. If I may add one thing, which I think you could stress more. (My guess is that it is so beautifully natural to you that you take it for obvious...) It is the great influence of the position of the head and neck relative to the chest on the good organization of - the "floating arm", as explained in the first part of your lecture . Forward leaning of the head (and neck) mobilizes muscles of the neck and back (rather than the bigger muscles of the lower section of the scapula), and hinders the optimal organization of scapula musculature. The more the head is leaning, the more the carrying of shoulder-girdle wil involve the muscles of the neck. And it will be harder to feel the pleasant sensation of the arm floating, which when well organized, as in your demonstration, is very pleasant indeed. Besides, after years, the aligment of the spine will deteriorate structurally, which will make the correction very very difficult or even impossible, plus may involve chronic pains along the spine, especially in the middle of the thoraitic section. This leaning of the head is rare in younger children, and may develop as they grow up, especially in teen age, as it is intimately connected to the emotional burdens of the adaptation to adolescent and then adult life in society. Plus it has to do with the fact that the sheer physical weight of the body is growing with physical growth. Again, this is justt a little remark, though took me many words, a footnote for an admirabley clear, pleasant, thourough and valuable presentation. Thank you!
I agree-I really use all this with OLDER students and even the academy level ones.I don't bother too much with TEHNIQUE PER SE with beginners. They are much more natural and flexible and I find that with time ,if you keep their hands in five finger position for long enough, they start playing with nice ,slightly curved fingers and arm weight.
Excellent explanation and demonstration of best arm and hand positions for optimal piano playing results. I will use these techniques to help my students. Thank you very much! :)
Ms. Irina, how are you? My mom is taking piano classes and I’m about to make subtitles for this video for her to study. I saw some people in the comment section are asking for that so if you like I could send you the video with Subtitles into Portuguese (BR) for your team to post on RU-vid! If you see my message, I would also probably confirm some of the techniques’ names you mentioned on the video, so it’s all accurate as it deserves! Best regards and thank you for the shared knowledge 💕
Irina, after going to your workshop. This video is a great review. You are changing the way I teach. I can't wait until we can get you at the IMTA convention!
Sra Irina, Seria possível fazer alguma legenda em portugues ou espanhol? Seus vídeos são altamente instrutivos, mesmo estando em inglês consigo entender muita coisa, mas com uma legenda seria perfeito o entendimento! Obrigada!
Sandy Sullivan Thank you Sandy!Yes, I do conduct workshops every year. In fact, the next one is coming soon, August 6-8 - three days with certification program in Indianapolis. If you are interested, please e-mail me at gorinpianostudio@gmail.com
Sandy Sullivan Sandy, there are teachers coming from Florida, Arkansas, other states and even Canada. There will be a hotel nearby booked for teachers, lunches included. If you'd like, I can connect you with the teacher from Florida, and maybe you could carpool. Just an idea.
Can you present a video with students who cannot play a series of note s without the other fingers rising straight out. There’s got to be a solution before she develops worst habits

@@efraingonzalez Tiene mucho sentido-sobre todo para los estudiantes d nivel superior que no tienen la base-o sea el nivel superior no es superior para nada.
