Actually you can make that assumption that Auburn people are smarter than the people that go to Alabama. Not to the extent that he mentioned and yes there are obviously plenty of very smart people at both schools, but Auburn is generally a better school than Alabama. Besides SEC schools aren't that well known for academics anyways. Big Ten have all but 1 of their schools within the T100 universities in the US and the SEC has 5 inside it.
absolutely! Rod Bramlett, a great man. a great Auburn man. along with Jim Fyffe, they'll never be forgotten. auburn football will never be the same. oh and btw.. this call/runback NEVER gets old!! my hatred for Alabama is so deep. i can't describe the level of elation when those coksukers get it broke off in their ass!!
One of the greatest ever hometown announcers, indeed. I can't decide between this call and Larry Munson's call of the Lindsay Scott play as the greatest ever call by a hometown announcer.
Disagree 180 degrees. Very poor play call, a good call enables listeners to visualize the play. An ideal call (impossible in real life) might go like this: Fielded by Davis in the back of the end zone - starts up the field between the hash marks... cuts left... squirts by a diving defender... gets some blocks and tightropes along the sidelines, sprints past another defender at midfield and breaks into the clear with a convoy of blockers... and Davis is gone! Touchdown Auburn, and there are no flags! (Recap play from the start with more details). GRANTED, NO PLAY CALLER COULD GET IT THIS GOOD, and its easy after the fact... but really, just counting off yards? Even if he had provided half the detail, at least that would have been... something. Couldn't he have provided some description of the players movements? If you want to hear a good runback call, watch "immaculate deception cribbs," and both sets of announcers (Cleveland or Pittsburgh) do a terrific job.
357MagnumBob There is no way you would have been able to say all that in the heat of the moment. Probably the greatest upset in history just unfolded in front of your eyes and you think you would have been thinking to yourself "I need to really evaluate what I say before I say it while one of the most unbelievable upsets are happening right now." No way. You would have been stumbling over your words no matter who you are rooting for.
Not really. Listen to the call I mentioned. Pittsburgh and Cleveland are rivals, like Auburn and Alabama. Cleveland had beaten Pittsburgh only once in the last 8 years, and they play twice a year, and Pittsburgh had just taken the lead after a long, slow and painful drive. So yes, heat of the moment was absolutely there. And no, I didn't expect it all, I just expected something more than yard lines between "fields the ball deep in the end zone" and "there goes Davis." So yes, Davis was a hero, the radio description was a zero.
357MagnumBob Any die-hard fan like him would have not been able to keep their composure because of a play like this, possibly the best in CFB. Come on now.
357MagnumBob bc I'm sure you could do it that good....he has to do it as quickly as he can and can't slow down a bit or it gets boring....give the man a break...its pretty good the situation
RIP Rod & Paula Bramblett (Rod was the Auburn radio announcer) They passed away in a fatal car crash tonight. You will forever be remembered for the heart and soul you brought to the job. Let this amazing call stand as the shining moment of his timeless legacy.
The, "OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! AUBURNS GONNA WIN THE FOOTBALL GAME" and the crowd going crazy, has to be one of the most profound football experiences. This gets me every time, sorry for Alabama fans (I can more than relate; my team has had its fair share of disappointing loses) but no one will ever let this go. Its amazing. I'm an Oklahoma University fan, and I'll admit it: I tear up watching this. Im not just a fan of the sooners, but just a fan of the game.
+Tack Neely i was watching, and i didnt know you could return field goals so when chris davis got the ball i was like, "what is he doing?" then my dad explained and i got so exited that when he took it back i hit the ground and started yelling and hitting the floor, then i hit my hand on our exersize bike and i had a NASTY cut on my hand so i was is to much pain to celebrate lol
No matter how many times I watch this, I will always get goosebumps. I remember watching it live rooting for Auburn and was so dumbfounded because I didn't even think that was a viable option. Hands down, the best college football play ever.
Aaron Elsen im a LSU fan so from one tiger to another we always pull for auburn in the iron bowl,i watch this clip so many times(i can't help it,lol)never gets old,GO AUBURN.
"Alright, here we go, fifty-six yarder.. It has-no, does not have the leg, and Chris Davis takes it out of the back of the enzone, he'll run it out to the ten, fifteen, twenty, twenty-five 30, 35 40, 45 50, 45! There goes Davis!!! *OH MY GOD!!!!!!!* AUBURNS GONNA WIN THE FOOTBALL GAME!!!!!! AUBURNS GONNA WIN THE FOOTBALL GAME!!! HE RAN THE MISSED FIELD GOAL BACK!! HE RAN IT BACK 109 YARDS!!! THEIR NOT GONNA KEEP HIM OFF THE FIELD TONIGHT!!! HOLY COW!!!
+MermDaddy by rule you'd still be able to get up and run it in. A defender would have to down you if you fell, but in that scenario the closest defender was like 30+ yards away
MermDaddy If I played college football, this would be my biggest fear and I'm honestly surprised you don't see more guys tripping over their own feet or their teammates feet right before they score.
As a fan of the game, I have to admit I tear up a bit when I hear the Auburn call of this play. You won't find a more fitting 40 seconds to capture what's so special about college football.
It’s very sad to hear about Rod Bramblett. I’m a Alabama fan and I thought I’d come here to pay respects by listening to what is probably his most iconic call. Rip Mr. and Mrs. Bramblett.
I think you have to watch the entire game, and specifically the last 20 minutes, to understand why this game was so special. Many sports writers have called this last play "the single greatest moment in college football history." Perhaps. But the decisions that were made and the odd things that happened to allow Davis to return the kick are just a thing of wonder. And the incredible Auburn game (only two weeks before this game) made for one of the most memorable seasons for any team in the history of this country. And this amazing radio call (an instant classic). And finally, they win a bowl game on their home turf. It rarely gets better than this.
The auburn radio call gives me chills. I remember watching this on t.v and "calling" the runback before it happened. College football doesn't get any better than this.
omg! he makes me nauseous! i can visualize him sitting in the booth in his underwear talking about them! he's so gay for alobama! however, in his defense, no one calls a race better, nascar, that is.
Rod Bramblett, the Auburn announcer who says “they’re not going to keep them off the field tonight” was killed in a car wreck today at the age of 52. RIP to a legend
I remember having to go home from my Grandmother's house after Thanksgiving and would have to miss the game on TV. I was kinda bummed, but thankfully we had Sirius XM. The drive is around 3 hours and we left right at the start of the game so I wouldn't get to catch any of it on TV unless it went into OT. The thing I found out was that until the post-season of any sport they always had the home announcers on satellite radio. Was half paying attention to it on the ride down, but as soon as the fourth quarter rolled around I was all ears. As an OSU fan nothing would make me happier than seeing Alabama lose. I heard the call on the radio after the kick and about had to pull over from excitement. One of the best radio calls I've ever heard in my life across all sports.
So sad what happened to the radio announcer last night. Prayers up for his family, friends, and the Auburn community. Let's watch this video and remember him... This is certainly one of the best radio calls ever.
RIP Rob Bramblett and his wife Paula. A terrible tragedy that occurred. Not an auburn fan but I’m familiar with his most memorable calls. Thoughts and prayers to his family and the entire Auburn Tiger nation.
RIP Rod Bramblett and his wife Paula. Coming from a UGA fan, I shuddered everytime Rod said "TOUCHDOWN AUBUUURN" lol. But his call on this one is amazing.
I’m not a fan of either of these schools, but the call and the weight of the moment are always so incredible I can’t help but cry every time I rewatch this play every few months or so. These are the type of moments that make life worth living, the moments that teach you to never give up. This moment was so perfectly commentated that it always brings a tear of pure joy, satisfaction, and astonishment to my eye.
Still remember watching this with my dad, and the closer the Davis got to the end zone, my dad's joyful screaming got louder. When Davis crossed the end zone, my dad literally ran outside and ran up and down the street, yelling like a mad man. As embarrassing as it was, I still loved every second of it. Fortunately, everyone in the neighborhood knew my dad was a die hard Auburn fan, so most of our neighbors knew why he was excited.
Josh Chamberlain almost made an amazing comeback means nothing :) You still lost. So you can have fun trying sir. But glad your hero is a Charger.... maybe he actually has a chance of winning something big soon.
im not gonna lie I revisit this video every so often and I cry almost every time. The call, the crowd, the rivalry, just an absolutely spectacular moment. I cannot imagine what it would be like to be an auburn fan and be at this game. I love college football.
I think 99% of all football fans, announcers or otherwise, spend their entire lives watching a game for their team where they have the opportunity to get so excited, SO worked up, they yell like how this guy yelled "THERE GOES DAVIS!!!" Such a dream of euphoria.
I'm just about as big a Bama there is but I can honestly say this goes down as one of the most exciting endings to a game EVER, trailing MSU's td last night. This was a great game and Auburn earned the win. I wish the field goal would've went it but, still, I was happy for Auburn. I wish they would've finished off Florida state though. I hope this year's Iron Bowl is just as exciting as the last two.
Alright Here We Go. 56 Yarder It's Got No Does Not have the Leg. And Chris Davis Takes in the Back In the Endzone. He'll Run it Out to the 10,15,20,25,30,35,40,45,50,45 There's Goes Davis! OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! DAVIS IS GONNA RUN ALL THE BACK! AUBURN'S GONNA WIN THE FOOTBALL GAME! AUBURN'S GONNA WIN THE FOOTBALL GAME! HE RAN TO THIS FIELD GOAL BACK! HE RAN IT BACK A 109 YARDS! THEY NOT GONNA KEEP THEM OFF THE FIELD TONIGHT! HOLY COW! 57 Yards to Win the Iron Bowl. Cody Mendel Spots It Kick On the way it's Got Leg it is sailing it is short And it's grab it out 8 yards deep in the endzone drop back to the near side run down the near sideline. There's Nobody there for Alabama. Auburn's Gonna Win Auburn Is Gonna Win the Iron Bowl.
I am a Clemson fan, and I get chills watching this. I remember seeing this on TV live. It must have been wild seeing this live at the stadium as an Auburn fan.
