I first heard this song in 1977 at Hahn AFB Germany I was 27 year old country boy from Texas ! I fell in love with their southern rock music & bought all their albums ! Their music became my cruising music . Nothing but great memories! I’m 73 years old and I still listen and party to their music ! RIP Toy ! Your music and the Marshal Tucker Band lives on ! I might be old but I got to see the greatest bands ever ! Thank you God ! ! !
When I first heard this song on the radio of my pickup truck in 1977, I was 28 years-young, and it blew me away. It's been one of my 'go to songs' ever since.
If I had to pick 3 best songs of what defines American music, this would be one. Just great. ( other two from Beach Boys and Ventures) . Thank you, Marshall Tucker Band. I was at Santa Monica pier as a 18 yr old, spent the night watching this guy fishing, and talking with him. As the sun rose, I asked him who he was. He said... ever hear of the Marshall Tucker Band? I'm one of them. I went to buy a thank you card for talking to me thru the night. He said noone ever gave him one. I ventured out there from Wisconsin, I was homeless, hungry, didnt have nobody. Hung at the pier and slept on the beach. But he took the time to talk, and was so humble and nice. Never forget it. It was around '79.
I played in bands in the 1960's and 1970's. We 'covered' (a new term to me) most of the Marshall Tucker Band songs... I was mostly the 'keyboard' guy, but also played the sax and flute parts... the best years of my life... This band is one of my favorites.
I went out fishing the other day and played MTB for the people that went out with me, they were in their 30s and mainly listened to that new garbage coming out of Nashville that they are trying to pass off as country music. I was shocked to find out they had never heard of The Marshall Tucker Band, and even more shocked to see that most of them didn't like it simply because of the flute. Its a sad state of affairs when our nation is so divided that people can't even appreciate one of the greatest bands of all times simply because it doesn't fit their definition of what music should be. I heard this song back in in 1973 when all I listened to was hard rock like Black Sabbath, and I was instantly a fan. I still listen to MTB on a daily basis.
back in the 80si went into a little dive in Charleston SC sat at a table and in front of me 10ft. away was this band. thy came over to my table ant talked for a wile. very nice folks......
Isahiyella back in the 80s...my mom and dad went to one of their concerts. Later on went to a local pub. Toy walks in plays pool and stayed awhile. Nice man
Man listening to this song just feels good. Everytime it comes on the radio up goes the volume. Flute is a nice touch and love the piano in the background.....love it.
First album I ever heard was "Searchin' For A Rainbow" and first concert I ever saw was Marshall Tucker in 1976 in Charleston. 1997 I was in Chicago and the band was playing at the House of Blues. Guy I worked with was from Spartanburg and he knew one of the new guitarist. We got to go back stage after the show and drink and talk with the guys-Doug Grey as well. We stayed back there until about 4am with those guys. Just wish it could have been the original band members, but a great memory none the less.
js you gotta go to mtb free concert may 11th at sbb myrtle beach. I had your experience but mine lasted 12 years. haven't hung with them almost 20 yrs. rusty milner chris hicks or stuart swanland are thr 3 guitarists possible in 97
The original Marshall Tucker Band was great beyond words. I remember when this song came out and it got a lot of radio play ,they had a lot of great songs that never got much radio play but I love all of their songs.
Jerry ,George and Paul don’t get enough credit.Jerry brought a whole new thing,George hardest working rhytmn player ever and Paul a jazz influenced killer player.
I absolutely love this song. It's very sentimental to me. Great job guys. I love the flute! The one time I got to them here in Vegas they didn't do this song. I wonder why. (Sad face!)
I ain't never been with a woman long enough, for my boots to get old We've been together so long now they both need to be sewed If I ever settle down you'd be my kind And it's a good time for me to head on down the line Heard it in a love song Heard it in a love song Heard it in a love song Can't be wrong I'm the kinda man likes to get away Like to start dreamin' about tomorrow today Never said that I love you, even thought it's so Where's that duffle bag of mine it's time to go Heard it in a love song Heard it in a love song Heard it in a love song Can't be wrong I'm gona be leavin' at the break of dawn Wish you could come but I don't need no woman taggin' along So I'll sneak out that door couldn't stand to see you cry I'd stay another year if I saw a tear drop in your eye Heard it in a love song Heard it in a love song Heard it in a love song Can't be wrong I never had a damn thing but what I had I had to leave it behind You're the hardest thing I ever tried to get off my mind Always something greener on the other side of that hill I was born a wrangler and a rambler and I guess I always will Heard it in a love song Heard it in a love song Heard it in a love song Can't be wrong
My favorite part of the song on the record is the outro where the flute takes it home and the lead guitar joins in, and both intertwine bringing the song to its end. What a ride of superb musicianship by the band - they sure don't make records like that anymore.
Toys voice was so unique. Whoever is left of the band is touring but I just can’t hear them play without hearing his voice . He had a lot of talented musicians but it will never be the same without him
Seen them around '85 (or so) but what I do remember is are these guys ever gonna stop! they played from 8PM until about 2:30 AM then all headed down the street to Denny's... great night.
Where did classic Southern Rock like this go ? This is one of those great songs to drive to or get caught to at the lite singing and drumming or air guarting to !
Marshall Tucker band and the Allman Brothers were the only southern rock bands that I thought really spoke to me. Ok, maybe the Atlanta Rhythm Section too.
@@chadjustice8560 I have the debut album from Skynyrd and no disrespect to the band. Just my opinion on my personal likes. MTB, Allman Brothers, ARS. Of course, by '76 Tom Petty and co enters the southern rock scene and pretty much takes over.
Saw MTB recently in the Pittsburgh and Doug Young is the only original member. Has some cat from the Outlaws playing lead guitar which is no step down and all bases were covered. Good show. We're all (I'm 64 and saw the original band at least 3 times)getting older and are dropping like flies and this band had it's share. Was nice to hear the music of my youth, can't you see?
Hey Wolf, saw your comment re dive bar in Charleston. Had the same experience in 1977, also Charleston. You're absolutely right - not only a great band, but really nice guys who actually did come over and talk to me and my wife on breaks. Small venue, 10 feet away, probably less than 100 in audience. One of the most memorable performances I've ever seen. Love this band - great music!!!
jonesnat: Are they from Charleston? I grew up there and in 1977 I wasn't old enough to get in a bar as I was 8y but remember this song fondly on my AM transistor radio WTMA. Reminds me of that summer when my parents always took us to Folly Beach in their baby blue Oldmobile Cutlass Supreme with white top.
Nice video this 🌨️ rainy night doing dishes and thought about this song 🎶. Have a good one y'all 🙏🇱🇷 even though we all got music we always have RU-vid 👍 ☔
I can't understand how these groups struggle for years with dreams of making it big, then when they finally do, they don't waste anytime soaking up the drugs, and trying to kill themselves. You would think that with the money and the freedom to pursue their music that would be the last thing to happen, but surprisingly self destruction is always the first thing they do.
@@thelegate8636 Toy Caldwell died in 1993. He was the original founder of the MTB. The initial autopsy report failed to find a cause of death. Follow up tests however, revealed the cause of death to be Cocaine ingestion, and was reported as such by the Coronor's Office, and is listed as the Cause of Death on his Death Certificate.I will never understand why they want to do drugs and all, knowing it will kill them. Even if it does'nt kill them, who wants to live like that?
Baby, if u look outside your window at dawn, you won't see me. I'll still b sleeping. I'm the noon time rambling man. But u were the first thing I thought of after I drank u off my mind.
