I do not believe the pinna is to funnel the sounds down the canal. I have a hard time finding accurate information of the anatomy of the pinna being described in an accurate manner, there are a few, but very hard to find. You can actually see how the pinna works if you comprehend the actual function of the pinna, once realised, it opens up a completely new door as to how the pinna functions and how we perceive sound directions.
