And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing in 2013 at Wacken Open Air festival, in front of a 82k+ audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. You clearly enjoyed our Dutch metal queen Floor Jansen's voice, and you also got all the key elements of a Nightwish show: the complex and intricate composition, the high level of musicianship of all members of the band, the energy exchanged with the crowd. Welcome among us! :) Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). Welcome to Floor Jansen, the 6' Valkyrie Goddess of Metal. You've heard about 40% of what she can do. I've heard her sing rock, metal, classical aria, country, lullaby, smooth jazz, pop and musical. I've heard her sing in English, Dutch, German, Finnish, Spanish, Italian and Latin. I've heard her do deathgrowls and hold a D6 for 8 seconds. And I've heard her do all those things live on stage. Sure, there are singers who can do any of the things she does better than her, but there's only one who can do all of them and sound great and convincing doing it all.

You think Floor is poised??? This is an understatement. She knows how her voice can control the audience and she is playing with that. Hello, member of the Nightwish army here. Started listening to them back when Tarja was singing in concert I was working at. Loved her, respected Anette, agog about Floor. What makes Floor so extraordinary is her versatility, and live performances. She does not use auto-tune, and still slams it out of the park every time. There is only one performance where she showed any vocal tiring. That was in the last two songs at Wembley. But that was an over two hour concert. She still did better than most and can keep herself in time and in tune. There are many performers who are great at one thing... then there is Floor. She is great at everything. And I mean everything from Opera to Death Metal Growling. Learning about Floor will be a deep dive into music. Good luck.

Don't forget the fact that the Bassist, Marko. Has one of the most amazing vocals and you should definitely need to react to his performance of "The Islander". Plus, Floor is the 3rd vocalist in the band, the 1st one, Tarja (Taria) Turunen, is also considered one of the greatest as she's a pioneer of Symphonic Metal. Keep bringing more Nightwish to your channel! The first song I heard from them was Nightquest and my favorites are so many that it's hard to pick one. But I'd go for Everdream for you to react to it 😊

Finally someone noticing some obvious details in the video's.. most people go: after a minute where a shot was clearly showing her or other members leave stage for a time go "hey where did she go"... I get it, even I do not get all on first view every little detail and mostly if you focus too much on one thing or loose yourself in the moment like in fast paced movies or performances/edits.... Nice job, keep it going.

She growls on some of her Revamp songs (different band) and on a Nightwish song here and there. Though she does so many different things. Check her out on the TV Show Beste Zangers. She sings tons of different styles there including Lady Gaga's "Sballow" better than the original IMO.

you used the term "glassy" for her voice and I totally get what you mean by that. I would take it one step further, though, and call it crystalline. Glass, to me, implies a certain brittleness, and there's nothing brittle about Floor's voice. It is solid down to the very molecular level, crystalline. XD

saw Nightwish live in Germany November 2018. An evening i will never forget!!! And YES...HER VOICE IS AWESOME!!!!!!

Nightwish has few growls.... But Floor can and does growl. With her previous band Revamp (Floor started in dutch symphonic Metal Band After Forever at 16, which eventually broke up in 2009 after 14 years, which was a big blow. She then started her own band Revamp and started vocal coaching and too many other things, which led to a complete burnout. Just when she was getting out of that burnout Nightwish called her because their singer Annette Olzon left the band in the middle of a world tour. At first she was supposed to just finish the tour with them, but qit quickly became apparent that the band wanted her as a permanent lead singer). She then she does a lot of growling, and there are a few songs by Nightwish where she pulls out the growls. I think the most amazing thing about Floor is her versatility. She can do opera she can do pop she can do belts she can do growls. She's described herself as a full on vocal nerd and she likes learning and perfecting new techniques she comes across. She obviously has natural talent, but she also put in all the hard work to get where she is today. Dutch TV-show Beste Zangers (2019 season) really shows her vocal versatility and her ability to emote lyrics. Highly recommend that... and also any other Nightwish song. For a medley of some of the best metal vocalists around, check out Ayreon. Ayreon is project based and makes prog rock/ metal opera's. The guy behind it, Arjen Lucassen always manages to get amazing artists to work with him (including but not limited to Floor). 'The Day that the World Breaks down' is a great first song to listen to, 11 different vocalists in that song. Plus Arjen himself provides useful and interesting info about the different artists in the song with text inserts

If you want to listen more to all she is capable of, check her out on "Beste Zangers 2019", a Dutch TV show, where Floor shows her versatility in every episode. She really is the best vocalist of this time. She had classical trainig, but also studied at the 'Rock Academy" in the Netherlands. We love her, as everybody in the whole world does. That was for a nice first reaction, not over the top freaking out, but obviously appreciating (as it should be). About your questions: - My first Nightwish song I ever heard was 'Elvenpath', their very first song on their very first album (which was their original demo tape, back then with a different vocalist, different bass player and a more powermetal style). Actually, it was kinda funny: I read about this new, extremely promising and rather unusual Symphonic Power Metal band with folk elements from Finland, that just recently released their first album. The day that they had their very first album release outside their country, which was a double release with their second album in Germany, I walked into the music store, looking for their album. I wanted to listen if they are really that great (Symphonic was rather new in 1997 and there were only a handfull good bands), so I skipped school for that. I found the album, and while I was reading through the booklet, this revelation of a song started playing through the store speakers. I ran to the counter, album in my hand, to ask what band that was cause I was instantly in love. The clerk grinned while pointing at the album in my hand. Turned out he was actually a finnish student, living and studying in my hometown in Germany AND a fan of the band. Bought the album that very instant. - About my Nightwish concerts: I have been to more than I can count. With their first singer, I went to a handfull concerts and saw them at 2 or 3 festivals live (german metal open air festivals are dope, Wacken, where this concert was, is just the biggest). Then, I saw them with their second singer once and was rather disappointed (from the singer, not the band or the music). Then I stuck to the albums, until Floor came along. I already liked her with her first band (After Forever) and her project ReVamp and was over the roof. I was at exactly this concert and I cried (I was not alone). I went to every festival they were playing in Germany for the following years (Wacken, Summerbreeze, WGT, etc and to their own shows, twice in France and once in Switzerland, countless times in Germany. Worth every time.

Okay, I was surf’n around Nighwish reacts and stumbled onto you. I’m a 62 year old (white man), not perv’n, I have a daughter probably about your age. I felt compelled to tell you, you got it, you got all of it. Your hair, makeup, beads and hat. I’ve never seen you before today but dang, you got it going on with this very unique look or appearance. Never take off your hat, well maybe to sleep. Looking through your videos, just casually but your hat is not a constant part of your look. Nothing in your look is over stated, it just all fits perfectly. Not many people could pull off this look. You aren’t using these fashion statements to prop yourself up, quite the opposite. If you were my daughter, I’d be driving it home so she could take your look and make a look of her own. You nailed this look and with not one thing rising above another, very well balanced. I’d tell my daughter to get a lot of different colors of this type of hat and build on it. Different colored hat and beads which would drive your makeup palate then drive your clothing. This is a look that you own and certainly doesn’t hurt that you have just natural beauty. Never sent a comment like this but you just killed it with this look. It’s such a beautiful look and gives you a lot of elbow room to change up, slightly, this look. As said, not perv’n but how often do we see someone just knock it out of the park with a simple understated look that when put together makes a huge fashion statement. You got it going on in spades. You absolutely rock this look I’ll bet you turn a lot of heads. Hey! Great, you found Nightwish. 👍 The first song I heard of them was "Wishmaster" in 2000. I saw them on Wacken 2000 and at least one concert with Floor Jansen. The next concert (I have tickets for, yay!) is postponed to 2021. There are many things I like about this band. First of all: it is symphonic metal! Sometimes hard, sometimes soft, often melodic and everything between. They have evolved over the years, changing bandmembers (like the sometimes singing bass-player Marco or the singers Tarja and Anette), bringing real orchestra or choires into the music, trying different music styles (there are some folcloristic songs but also one song with some kind of swing-feel). So, of course, there are some Nightwish-characteristics (you recognize the band ;)), but there is enough change to stay interesting. That's part of their success, I think.

Floor is a kinda jack of all trades. She picks and chooses what fits her storytelling. And she's a master of switching between singing styles to fit whatever the music and the lyrics need / demand. She's a real special artist, and not to lessen everything else she's done and participated in, but with Nightwish she's really found a perfect group, and Nightwish has a singer that can do it all if needed. Oh and thank you mr. Fluffy. Apart from you staring at me the whole video, I like you :D. Give you mom a big plushy hug from the Internets.

Dear MrsPenPal (couldn't resist) I once knew a tank named "Fluffy".... Slick editing and an expressive face!... You know Jukka Nevalainen (the drummer in this video) has a hat like yours? He wore it in the Nightwish movie "Imaginaerum" and some of the music videos from the album with the same name. Tuomas Holopainen (on keyboards) composes 95% of Nightwish material - he hears them as movie soundtracks in his head before he writes them down. Hans Zimmer is one of his influences - and he wrote the score for Pirates of the Caribbean. Metallica, Theatre of Tragedy and Tristania are also listed as influential in the Nightwish sound.

The guy walking in was Emppu, the guitarist. He wasn't walking in, he just walked over from the other end of the stage. He can be seen doing that frequently. He's also known as the Hobbit. He's 5'2" tall, Floor is 6'1" And thank you Fluffy for mentioning their label. Irish bagpipe? Ahhh, you haven't met Troy yet. He's the 6th member and plays whistles, Uilleann pipes, Irish Bouzouki, guitar, and what ever else he feels like. And he have a good voice too.

Naturally the original singer who created NW sound and style for others to adopt and learn...being also the founding member of this great band in 1996. Nightwish is Tuomas's band and he wrote 7 albums with original and replacement singer nr 1 until he asked Floor (replacement nr 2) to help in his project and gig tour. Since that she has been doing well with the NW boys.

You're welcome for being introduced to *Nightwish.* Floor is indeed undeniably spectacular but every single member of this band is literally the top 1% of the top 1% in their respective field and not only their individual talent but their ability to play together. I've never seen a band live who are as tight as Nightwish, their sync is so god damn perfect and it's done so incredibly effortless. Nightwish is not my favorite band of all time only because of my taste in music (They're still very high up tho, don't get me wrong) but if I'm being objective and honest they're probably the most skilled band I've ever seen from an over all perspective.

... But how is your voice so sweet and soothing?!

A little over a year and a half ago I heard this song for the first time (it was the first time I ever listened to them) and was instantly hooked. If you're wanting to hear Floor growl then you might want to check out "yours is an empty hope" live at Wembley arena. Some other fantastic ones to check out are "romanticide", "storytime", and "everdream" all from the same show as this one, then there is "the islander" live at Tampere. If you're curious about how they sound out of the studio then definitely check out "noise" from their newest album human:ll:nature. There isn't any live versions of this one yet they were about 1 month away from starting their tour when the whole world got put on lockdown.

I think for me the most INCREDIBLE part of her abilities (with both singing AND stage presence!) is how she’s not once EVER appeared like she’s having to try, it’s just absolutely EFFORTLESS!! U MUST GO WATCH HER ON BESTE ZANGERS, she was just incredible with every single performance!! And honestly I think she was also the one person who really put all her emotions into picking the songs that would mean the most to the others, and then with how to perform them!!! "Nightwish - Last of the Wilds" was probably the first song I listened to. After that song, I searched for more songs, and was blown away by the Angelic singing as well.

Nightwish were suppose to be in my country last September, they are a bucket list band for me, like pink floyd and sabbath were. I have to see them once.

I am sure someone has already said this, but at this point she had not been with the band for more than a few months and was just a "fill-in" singer when this concert took place. Also there are over 80k people there in front of her. You like folk sound, try "I want my tears back!" Always do live from them.

We have a new convert to the Nightwish Army. Welcome to the fold and enjoy the epicness! Next you should do "The Poet and the Pendulum" live at Wembley Arena from 2016. BTW, first Nightwish song I ever heard, "Nemo." Number of Nightwish concerts I've been to, four.

The keyboard player, Tuomas, writes almost all their songs and is a true genius even while trying not to overuse the word. Every single member of the band is brilliant at their jobs. Floor had only been with them a few months when this was filmed. Try watching some when Tarja was the vocalist.

The composition is mostly and lyrics usually entirely by the key-boardist, Tuomas Holopainen (You can call him Thomas, it's one Finnish version of the same name).

i´ve been at a NW concert twice: 2009 in Erfurt (Germany) with anette as singer and 2018 in Berlin with floor. both show where great and a experience. if you ever have the opportunity to see a show of them, take it :)

I have listened band from the since beginning and saw all 3 diffrend vocalists of the band many times in live concerts in Finland. Most I like Floor as a singer but also the arrangements which Tuomas make.for the songs....also Marco is outstandind singer partner for Floor. But also there is a unbelieveble masterpiece phantom of the opera with tarja and marco as vocals

First thing she does on stage for the song is take the energy from the crowd with her hands, and after she nails the note she returns then energy to the crowd with her hand, and rocks out as the band carries it home.
