The Beatles brilliantly chose to use a small stringed orchestra to accompany their great vocals on this song. Both create the sad mood, and tell the story of the well written lyrics. The lyrics and story were entirely made up by The Beatles, but were inspired by a newspaper article. They were the first rock band to use an orchestra in one of their songs, and the first to record an entire song using an orchestra. It shows their versatility and creativity that made them so popular. You were spot on mentioning how well written Beatles songs were. They are considered some of the greatest song writers of all time, up there with Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel, and maybe a few others. Great reaction and thanks for playing this Beatles masterpiece.

This is so well written and I was told it is actually a real story, it is so well written and sang, beautifully but sad. I’ll be checking out more from them and Bob Dylan and Simon and Garfunkel I love their musics too.

The string instruments are everything in this song, the sound is haunting.

Sir George Martin was a great addition to the Beatles production team. He is described as an, ''English record producer, arranger, composer, conductor, and musician''. He shaped the sound of the Beatles. And he played keyboards on many of the Beatles hits. And he was responsible for bringing Ringo into the band. Martin considered Ringo to be ''the greatest rock drummer in the world''.

I don't know were you got the bit about George Martin saying Ringo was the greatest drummer in the world! Its certainly something I've never read before, by the way George Martin has nothing to do with the string arrangement on the song

@@beatlebrian4404 Yes, Mike Leander, wrote an arrangement for this one song. From George Martin's autobiography, 'All You Need is Ears': ''The score itself was good enough, and still holds up today, but it was the only score that was ever done by anyone else during all my time with The Beatles.'' The quote about Ringo was a retort from Martin after Lennon said Ringo wasn't ''the greatest drummer in the world''. Also from Martin's autobiography.

@@DWilliams-ce8nb but you said George Martin said Ringo was the greatest drummer in the world! But of course lennon never said "Ringo isn't even the best drummer in the Beatles" that was first said by the UK comedian Jasper Carrot in 1982!

@@beatlebrian4404 Lennon said more than nine words about Ringo. And Lennon is widely quoted as saying ''Ringo is not the greatest drummer in the world''. You are splitting hairs and are intellectually dishonest in your pathetic attempt to win a petty argument. And your handle, ''beatlebrain'' is a tipoff that you exhibit delusions of grandeur. Get help. Have a nice day, Slick.

On a completely different level from everything being recorded at the time. Way, way ahead of its time. Paul's musical genius is left as a stamp on this and other tracks. Pepper could be the greatest pop album of the century and the first concept album of its time. And people forget about Magical Mystery Tour, which got a lot of Pepper leftovers, which really are some of the greatest songs ever written.

Lovely reaction young lady. Along with 'With A Little Help From My Friends' (from the same album) 'She's Leaving Home' was the last song written side by side on a piano by John and Paul. Eager to record their new song Paul rang up George Martin and asked that he clear his recording schedule for that evening to record their new song. George had already booked Cilla Black for the evening session. Miffed by George's refusal to cancel Cilla's session., Paul immediately contacted arranger Michael Leander to score the new songs arrangement. Much to the dismay of George Martin. So this was the first time an outside arranger was used on an official Beatles song. George Martin did a little tweeking to the score but essentially used and recorded Mr. Leander's arrangement. RNB

Paul McCartney wrote the song based on a 17-year-old girl named Melanie Coe, who ran away from home. McCartney made up many of the details in the song, but surprisingly got many things right. John Lennon provided the chorus with the thoughts of the parents, which works perfectly in this song. Years after this was released on the Beatles' famous Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album (released June 1967), a British reporter caught up with Melanie Coe and talked about the song. It's pretty interesting: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5ivE4G27Uys.htmlsi=m-IwcnyVQPmNDFpF

I burst into laughter when someone tries telling me the Beatles are overrated and sound all the same. Ignorant as well as partially deaf.

Even their very early songs are more complex harmonically than anything written today, with accidental chords, inversions, and key changes that just weren't done in rock-and-roll based "pop" music at the time.
