Cathedral conservators who scaled the height of Britain's tallest spire to repair a weather meter have filmed their spectacular efforts. Clerk of Works Gary Price led the "heart in your mouth" work 404ft (123m) up at the capstone of Salisbury Cathedral in Wiltshire. The footage displays the breathtaking views only usually experienced by the Cathedral's peregrine falcons. Footage courtesy of Salisbury Cathedral.

Actually what's more amazing is that people from a few centuries ago could construct such a high and magnificent spire.

What’s even more impressive is the pyramids which are 4000 years old is even taller than this

If you think that's bad you should see the video of the aerial mast engineers in the US.

I would be so terrified that the top would break off, so the ropes wouldn't even matter.

Id worry about the old stones that hold the steps breaking, they look pretty old and untrustworthy.

this isn't as scary as the one where they climbed up over 500m to fix a transmission tower without any safety lines attached as those would slow the workers down. having the safety line itself creates a huge cushion of comfort.

Good old reliable Munro cup anemometer at the top. They're also a part of history. Please don't tell me that the "weather meter" is the anemometer, and that's it's been replaced by current tech.
