If you look up the unplugged live rehearsal on yt - it's funny to get the extra banter but you also hear Dave's vocals louder than Kurt's bc they hadn't turned Kurt's vocals up enough despite him asking them to 😂 - and it's so strange to hear Dave sing like Kurt

Yeah bc Led Zeppelin and Tool are both prog rock. That's why the rhythms are weird. It never crossed my mind that Kurt was alive to hear Tool. Two of my most listened to bands in my life so far. Rarely listen to Tool anymore, doesn't hit the same knowing what Maynard is really like. Kurt is forever. I'll never idolise someone the way I idolise Kurt. I can't help it, there's literally no one living or dead quite like him.

Some of the best artists have a history of trauma, mental illness, addiction. The difference with Kurt was that (as much as he was sometimes an asshole, as we all are) he didn't abuse women or handpick underage groupies to fuck like so many of the other artists that blame their behaviour on trauma/drugs/MH. He was a good feminist even by today's standards. He spoke out publicly against hurting women, he wrote anti-rape songs (that were misinterpreted), he did charity shows including the anti-rape one, and there was the time him & and Kathleen Hanna graffitied "god is gay" on a right wing religious "teen pregnancy centre" that lured women in to manipulate them out of abortions. (Hanna wrote something more pragmatic about abortion rights but Kurt took a more creative approach according to her story of the event she tells during her live Teen Spirit cover). Also in his journals (and certain interviews) you can see how much insight he had about the world. He was against Reaganism, toxic masculinity (long before it was a concept), homophobia, transphobia, gender norms, and he talked about how all modern music has Black roots. He was basically an anarchist. I'd love to hear what he'd say about the world if he were alive today, but he's gone back to the source ❤
