Brian! I've been watching you for over 7 years now and I'm sure I won't be the first to say you've aged like fine wine. Thank you for providing us with consistently fun, knowledgeable, and entertaining hearthstone content throughout the years :)
Hey Kibler, I started out watching you because of Hearthstone and had no idea you are an ex MTG Pro and in the hall of fame! I just got into magic and love you Commander at home channel.
It was a deck list that made me miss Tundra Rhino.
Funny part about beast hunter, it doesn’t even look OP at first. 1 mana 1/3s, 1/1 rushers, 2/3 taunts, it seems like a fairly tame tempo deck. …And then the Shade Hound comes down.
Viable? Not currently, Secret mage, Even Shaman and Freeze Shaman have pushed board based midrange out of wild (especially for hunter). It's a little better than it was before the recent patch though, all the decks that got nerfed beat Beast Hunter. I'm a Hunter-only player, and got to legend with beast hunter in Wild in August (I rarely bother trying for the full climb); so before the deck got Shadehound in Maw, which was a huge buff, but they also nerfed Harpoon gun. The issue is that set also buffed Secret mage and Even shaman, which crush us. The control decks, like like control Druid, stall you out too well and the aggro decks get under you too fast or cheat massive things in too quickly. For me it's a dead class until something drastic changes. That said, you can win games with it and the deck is fun when it gets to pop off, here's a modified version of my Legend climb list with Shadehound and the bow; AAEBAZ/DAwTeBNuRBOe5BLCTBQ27BdkJgQrquwKOwwKizgO50APb7QOI9AODyATQ5ATA7QSOpAUA You can swap 1-2 Springpaws for Pelican diver, to match up into some early decks slightly better, it's basically a removal spell. If you really wanna put in ZOMBEEEES! you could cut... probably springpaw, I was gonna say Hyena but it's very good synergy with the secret; the other 2 drops are way too strong to cut imo. You can also cut the Hope of Quel'Thalas for a copy of ZOMBEEEES!, if you wanna be a bit lower to the ground. Any deck that durdles turn 1-4 can just get ran over, and a bunch of decks played at lower ranks can be beaten. Your wincon in a lot of games is gonna be trying to stick a few guys and slamming a discounted Tundra Rhino or Shadehound. If a class has a lot of healing, it's okay to chip at them but you should really be setting up a combo turn with discounted Rhino/hound + the copy of timber wolf + 1 drops. Also if you have hydrolodon out with Tundra rhino, remember to pop the heads open on enemy minion first to get 6 damage instead of 3. Another cool play that might not be super obvious is grabbing the packmules from harpoon gun vs aggressive/board-based decks, both will cost 0 and you can "hide" Hyenas behind them for some disgusting turns. If you have any questions, I'll try to answer best I can.
@@Bladius_ Thanks for the reply! Your list looks really nice. I figure that Wild's current state is a bit rough, but once I really love Hunter decks that use Beasts as a core to synergy / combo cards. Even as basic as "Buzzard + Bees == Draw 4 cards" which I know is extremely inconsistent because of timing and interaction, but it's always something that intrigues me. Or like Heyna + Bees = big buff. I really like that idea and can't wait to try it out! Thanks for the list!
It would be fairly similar to copper hunter, which is a beast hunter that combines strong tempo threats with hyena with good draw from buzzard and good inevitability with tundra rhino and hydrolodon. It's much lower to the ground (it has to be), but frankly I'm not sure how good the bees would be, considering you can't get the draw from buzzard immediately. I'm also unsure as to how good copper hunter is the current meta. Time will tell, I suppose.
