Completely agree with your comments about the fine acting and the fact they Nick and Charlie don't even need to speak, the eyes, the little smile. It's wonderful, so impressed with Kit and Joe.
I think Nick also said yes because he didn't want to embarass Imogen in front of all their friends. Nick is a very empathetic person and I think he would rather help Imogen save face in that moment, while protecting himself and then play damage control later. I would like to point out though that I *hate* when people do things like asking people out in front of other people. it puts so much pressure on the person to say yes, even if they'd rather say no.
I love ur take on this, and the way u r empathetic with what Nick's going through!! It's easy to call him a "pushover" but u r right he is really overwhelmed. It's personally something I went through too so I got really comforted and validated by a reactor not judging nick xx

The whole situation with Imogen made me nervous too because movies and T.V. shows have often made this lead to cheating, or a beard situation, or where the girl is seen as a victim of a guy coming out, but the way Heartstopper did this whole situation was honestly so good, and it is very much about characterizing Nick more. This scene doesn't happen in the graphic novels (Imogen is a character specifically made for the show), which primarily focus on Charlie, so this scene sort of fills in a bit of characterization for Nick. Nick is a people-pleaser, he focuses a lot on making other people happy or letting people kind of push him around, and with the pressure of his friends around him, it makes sense that he would say yes. It's also there to differentiate Nick from Ben by putting him in a similar situation to Ben and seeing how differently he handles it. Were there other ways to do this? Yes. Was it effective? Also yes. Did it make me stressed? Absolutely, haha. I promise it gets better after this! It's a bit trying for a bit, but they handle this whole storyline so well and the characters develop from it beautifully. I was very impressed! Really excited to see you react to the rest of the show! (Also I love how you reacted to Nick with empathy for how he was feeling. It was really nice to see someone giving Nick some compassion and understanding the complexity of the situation!)
Thanks for this information. The show started losing me with the Imogen trope because it's been done so many times. I'm sad it was included if it wasn't in the comics. I wonder if it was a writing decision or a Netflix decision.
@@piper998877 interesting I feel like although Imogen is not in the comics her character is a vital role on nick's character it reflects on how nick is also a vital role on tara's character. Overall the additional things that they add on the adaptation is good and fit the story
@@piper998877 The screenplay was written by Alice Oseman, the author of the comics as well, so it was done in a way that the novels would have done this storyline, and I was actually impressed how they managed to take this really horrible trope and turn it on its head. I promise that it is dealt with in a very healthy manner and that it's only a bit of minor drama for a short while. It did have its purpose too, but I don't want to give too much away if you haven't finished the show yet.
@@CoreysCouch88 I actually really like Imogen! I think she's going to be a fantastic addition to the Oseman verse! Also, if you'd like a bit more Nick, the novels do include a bit more of his personality. He's very protective and a lot more touchy with Charlie in the novels. He's honestly one of my all-time favourite literary characters!
i love this scene when nick run to char house in the rain to talk to him and u can see the glow and the sparks in there eyes. and nick done so well in this scene telling charlie how he is feeling and i love how charlie put his arms around him and hug him and how he going to be so suppotive and help nick though this because he been there and he knows how he feeling and. i love when nick kiss charlie and he stand on this tip toes its so nice to see if u rember in frist episode charlie said he want sameone taler well he has it and when charlie run to nick and kiss him in the rain and he say hi and then saying bye and then he run off u can see sun flare across nick face and u can also see on nick face he was happy.

I love how the animation and the lighting and colours emphasize the emotions. Like, the pink edges when Nick wipes Charlie's face. ❤ But yeah, the situation with Imogen is really difficult! Imogen isn't really doing anything wrong, Nick doesn't want to hurt her, and the fact that there is an audience there makes it so much harder. I really like how the show handles it though.
I’ve watched it 14 (?) times and read the comics 6 times,, I truly have no life Edit - As for something I missed (but was in the comics) after the pyjamas comment you can see Nick looking up and down at Charlie Another edit - like two minutes in and Corey becomes a bird again 😅
FYI, their colors are yellow for Charlie and blue for Nick. This is repeated everywhere throughout the series. Check out the hearts animation during the umbrella scene. It’s yellow and blue. The umbrella means that this is the moment that they are together as a couple, although not officially. 😀

Yeah, Joe, who plays charlie, did a behind the scenes tour of Charlie's bedroom set and showed us all the Easter eggs and little details in the room. Including, the books on his shelf!
While what you said about the backlash from Nick's peergroup if he'd said no to Imogen is absolutely correct, I personally feel that another possibly even larger reason for his decision to say yes to her was the massive embarrassment and negative backlash it would have caused for her. Remember, she was basically egged on by Harry to ask Nick out right then and there and in any case he knew rejecting her in front of their whole peergroup would have embarrassed and hurt her quite a bit. Nick is a people pleaser, but it doesn't come from a place of weakness or even usually fear, it comes from a place of compassion and aversion to causing anyone hurt or discomfort. Then when you add all the crap he would have gotten from the other boys (despite having already stated to them in the previous episode that there was nothing between him and Imogen) and he was left with only one halfway decent option in the situation.
In some other reaction to this episode, someone mentioned something about in rugby, the other players are not allowed to move when someone is down until the coach gives the OK. (I’ve never played so I have no idea whether it’s true or not.)

When Charlie gets hurt is when we see the biggest difference from the comics. Nick from the comics would go to Charlie, lift him up and take him inside. He was so much more publicly dedicated to Charlie in the comics
I thought the same. His shirt was soaking wet too. it was a great opportunity for Charlie to get Nick to take his shirt off and put one of his on. But since the actors were literally underage at time that make since. But not the towel.
