It occurs to me that Nick would have been well aware of who Charlie was before they met. His instinct to follow him probably came from that knowledge plus seeing how soft and kind he is. I believe Nick becomes attracted to Charlie first because he is so kind and warm, something Nick kind of hides in himself for a harder, gruffer, more accepted sports male. If that makes any sense. Yeah, if I remember correctly Alice has said that they did kind of know OF each other... But since they're not in the same grade they never really interacted prior to like properly meeting as shown in the show/comic. If I'm remembering correctly, really the only thing that Nick knew about Charlie is that he was the main kid being bullied the year previous... And that's pretty much it. They really only knew of each other super vaguely.

As a 54yo gay man I can only imagine how I would have felt if a show like this was around back in the 80’s when I was a teen. When I was at school in the 90s (a very similar school to Truham), it was required to use cartridge fountain pens (which are different to quill pens). Nick’s struggle is real, and I had it happen to me once or twice. The cartridges of ink are pressurised, so if you don’t push them in properly (or if the pen is worn down so the rubber seal that holds it in place isn’t tight) they can get rocketed off and cover you in ink. That’s one of the reasons I think they insisted we could only use blue ink: it’s not permanent so you can wash it out of clothes (with a lot of effort and some ink removal solution in the wash). And yes, everyone would mock you for it.
Also, the ‘x’ at the end of Charlie’s message does mean a kiss, but it doesn’t mean a romantic intention. It’s really common here in the UK to add it to messages between friends with whom you have some emotional closeness (ie almost any friend who isn’t a casual acquaintance). What it signifies is that you trust the person and view them as a real friend, which is significant give Charlie’s tendency to distance himself and Nick’s lack of true friends.

@@TajinaeTurner yeah, it’s a shame that most people outside the UK aren’t aware of that cultural fact, because the scene has so much more depth when you know. That’s one of the things I love about the TV series: it’s very efficient in how it subtly communicates character emotion through small choices. Euros (the director) and Alice make a great team.

I love heartstopper and watching reactions to it(at this point I’ve probably watched every reaction there is on RU-vid😂😂) but it’s always a little bitter because I always remember about what “fans” did to Kit. Taj, I must echo the chorus of comments praising you for having one of the best Heartstopper reaction videos EVER! Indeed, your emotion, your joy, your laughter, your affection for the characters, even your quizzing why certain things are the way they are in the script/episode ... are PRICELESS! There are many things you outwardly express that I also thought about while watching the show (more than a dozen times!) but that no other reaction video that I have seen has come out with - most notably to me your points about Charlie sitting on the top of the "tree," being his "safe place" - indeed! - as well as the darkening sky near the end of E1. And to your points about the very end of the episode and how amazing it makes you feel, I must also give high praise to the brilliant artistic choices made by Alice and Patrick, as well as Euros and the two music supervisors, for Wolf Alice's "Don't Delete The Kisses" to accompany the end of that scene. That haunting melody and child-like lead vocal are simply perfection to what's happening onscreen, and when the two seagulls come into frame and Nick starts to smile, which increasingly widens, well, those in and of themselves are pretty iconic - but it's that closing line of the song together with its mind-blowing, poignant, long-lasting reverb that continues after the picture goes to black (and just before the credits roll) that sends pure electric chills throughout my entire body! It also makes me tear up every time I watch it (which is almost like every day as someone posted a vid of just that part - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BZZT2Z5HSps.html ). I would have loved to have been a fly in the wall at the Cast & Crew screening to witness the reaction everyone had to that iconic ending, but especially Kit, given that there was likely no music playing while he was acting out those moments and then to see all the elements edited together must have been pure magic for him - well, for probably everyone in the room. And, speaking of editing... I must take my kudos to you one step beyond for something you do in the videos: your own ingenious editing! Unless my memory is failing me, every reaction video I've seen has the person reacting on full screen but the video from the show in a little tiny square on the lower right of the screen, where it is difficult to see what the actual scene is they're talking about, especially if you're watching on your smartphone. No, you turn that on its head, making the show clip full screen and YOU the smaller visual image but in a very cute little circle that hops around the screen and we are all able to clearly see what you are commenting on. THANK YOU!!! SO creative! And, so, I cannot wait to see the rest of your reaction videos ... and of course, like you, I cannot wait to see S2! Thanks again for this excellent vid, Taj.
At this point I have rewatch the show and multiple reaction video, Whenever I hear Ben say " not like anyone else will want to go out with you" I always say "wait 5 seconds and you will see him" the person who will want to go out with Charlie, they may not know it at the time but they do start going out

I think it’s because the process can be so hard to explain haha. There’s a lof of little details that go into it. But essentially, I screen record the episodes while I’m watching them on my device and then record my reactions separately on my camera. I sync the two up in editing once I’m finished! (:

My only hope is that we all take a little more time and patience with Ben. I know he does a lot to deserve our ire. However we have to remember we don't know what his struggle accepting himself is like .... We haven't seen that side.

I have been giving Ben a hard time, mostly because of how terrible he makes Charlie feel but you make a great point. We don’t know what Ben is going through. I’ve already reacted up to episode 4 but in the following episodes I’ll try to be more open minded. You are very right that we don’t get to see what he’s dealing with behind closed doors. Hopefully we get to see more of that in season 2. (:
We don’t get to see what Ben is going through, but we do see him SA Charlie and then act surprised as hell when he goes to grab Charlie at the party and Charlie pushes him away like someone having an assault flashback. We also see the cumulative effect of the bullying on Charlie, mixed up thoroughly with Ben’s deeply hurtful words and behavior over the length of their relationship and after, and how that results in Charlie having passive suicidal ideation. We can feel compassion for Ben and what he’s going through, but he can still GTFO and leave Charlie be. I’m going to keep being hard on Ben because he is the single most harmful force in Charlie’s life, and his perpetually toxic and occasional abusive behavior needs to stop. I felt that way before I read Solitaire. Unsurprisingly, Solitaire didn’t change my mind….
You are completely wrong when you say that Tao and Elle are dating. You need to remember they were best friends before Elle transitioned when she was still a boy. Tao is very possessive of the entire friend group, his feelings for Elle in the early episodes are the same as for Charlie and Isaac . It's not till episode 5 that Elle realises she has romantic feelings for Tao and episode 8 that Tao comes to the same realisation
I’m pretty sure she meant it in the joking way, not factually. As in, Tao buys Elle’s drink all the time so they already act like boyfriend and girlfriend.
