Chowchilla, California. Three years ago, as The Mules migrated north, a heat wave struck the western United States and sent temperatures into triple digits. It is so hot that the video image looks soft due to the rising heat waves. Trains had to move slowly because the heat-expanded rails could easily cause a derailment.
