I couldn't find a link to the exact 195* thermostat that I used. However, there are many that come up on google when you search for them. I just can't personally vouch for those products.

What other cold weather tips do you know of? Comment below 👇

Install/glue window screen behind the OEM grill. It will it keep insects/sand/salt/dirt/mud/plant pods (dandelion/cottonwood, etc) from clogging up the radiator pores. A simple rinse with a garden hose once in awhile to get dust off maybe all that's required.

I am pretty sure I used a Deere AR82752 thermostat in my crew cab it’s a 192 deg. It made a big difference in heat output from the heater. I have no issues with it towing either it cools just as good as the 180 did.

I'll check that one out. That's how mine is though, it does amazing in winter and doesn't get hot during the summer.

Be careful with the cardboard in front of the radiator. If you end up blocking part of the fan radius, the fan will actually flex, and if left long enough could result in ugly fan blade separations, slicing up your radiator. Block off the entire diameter of your fan, and leave the edges clear if you want some airflow through the radiator.

Good to know! I wouldn't have guessed that the fan could flex like that

Tim happy holidays that’s a great video and timely because most of the USA and Canada is under extreme cold weather other things to think about is getting the truck running install a battery trickle charger plug it into your block heater cord with a 3way plug it’ll help keep your battery warm and charged it’s how we keep them running in Montana thanks David

Yep, I saw so many people asking about this topic on Facebook recently I figured it was the right timing to film it

Great tips Tim. On the thermostat, I highly recommend going with a Cummins with 3 jiggle valves, which makes the engine temp very steady. I put a new stat in with only 1 jiggle valve and the temp runs high and then low, and just keeps going back and forth, very annoying.

I did the carboard infront of radiator several winters ago worked great----- until I pulled a long mountain grade on a 50* day and it overheated really bad, lost all my antifreeze, luckily no permanent damage. So now I put a piece of cardboard upright on the dash to remind me. It's a good thing for me these engines are tough.

Yep, I only block the radiator if it's below 10 F

I am with you on everything you said except letting the truck idle after first starting it. I live in Fairbanks Ak and daily drive my first gen to work. When it is colder than -20 F you need to let the engine idle for 10 or 15 min for everything inside your engine to get some heat in them before you start driving. I get it there will not be much heat in the cab from idling but the engine will have some heat in it before you take off for the day.

I plug in the block heater when it's gonna be 50 or lower. Warm oil moves faster thru the engine. Starts right up and I can use the heater instantly.

You mentioned some gunk in the coolant system. Just for fun I installed a bypass filter on my coolant system for my 2000 Dodge truck with a 24v. This was a used truck, and had at least one coolant service performed before I bought it. The nasty gook that my filter caught was seriously eye-opening. The first filter change caught an amazing amount of reddish brown nastiness, which I believe was rust mixed with silicates and residual casting sand. Subsequent filter changes (annually) resulted in almost nothing caught by the filter. The reason I bring this up is that on an older truck this could easily clog up a heat exchanger and most folks wouldn't really know it. Thanks again for a great video!
