I've been playing this in the UK since last Friday and have completed 2 full Championship seasons, both in solo. The bot overhead is extremely minimal and I constantly have the feeling at least a few of my opponents are breathing down my neck. Simple game mechanics that require interesting choices to be made. Extremely happy with the game and hope the initial interest and sales is enough to warrant many expansions.
Oh my! I think this could possibly win the Spiel the Jahres for 2023! This is truly an excellent racing tabletop game!! + so much additional modules and a solo mode all in one box! Add to that the outstanding artwork of Vincent Dutrait, and I think we have a true award winner here!
Unfortunately, to get nominated for Spiel des Jahres, it has to be released by a german publisher which didn't even happen yet. But i think the official release is scheduled for next year, so maybe Spiel des Jahres 2024? (fingers crossed)
My Game for 2023 since yesterday evening. We played 2 rounds, the adrenaline was pumping and emotions went high. My daughter started crying because she couldn´t sleep with the noise we were making. In Germany it has just been released, i have the english version though. What a rush, what a great game..... easy to learn but EXCITING!!!! Thanks again for your tutorial!
Great video as usual, Rodney. It helped me to teach Heat to my friends and we are having a blast with it. It always puts a smile on my face to watch your content. Keep it up! 🙂
Thank you, Rondney. I've been following your clips since Mansions of Madness. So for a long time. Even as a German, the explanation is unmatched. Funny, almost always error-free, confident, patient, didactically super strong and humour is also there. Please continue as long as there are board games.
We have been playing this for a few days now and it is a quick to the table really fun racer. Current favorite, for sure. Thanks Rodney for carefully pointing out that on a stress or boost you don't add those starter 0 or 5 cards! We had been adding them when drawn and didn't even notice that the speed icon wasn't on them. As always, solid, helpful content. Much appreciated!
A race car theme wouldn’t normally be my preferred theme. However, this game looks fantastic with the mechanics, art work, solo play mode, and other features to add complexity. The retro 1960’s theme is interesting. I’m waiting for my order to arrive and will use this video to teach the game group! By the way, one of the game group players looks like Rodney. His son asked, is that you dad when watching one the how to play videos. Thanks for the detailed tutorial!
Okay, so funny story: I watched this video whilst completely exhausted (was sick, and sleep deprived but also interested in learning this game). I fell asleep around the end of the video before you started talking about the extra rules and modules you can add to your later games. When I woke up, I was about halfway into your video about Castle Panic, and my first thought while half-asleep was "Wow, these extra modules look like a completely different game, what an odd design choice" Anyway, great video as usual. Thank you so much for these videos, they help more than you could imagine.
After so many game tutorials, I can’t imagine the backlog of questions you must get. Having heard this comment multiple times, I’m sure. I’ve been watching your videos for years and as a lifelong board game fan, it’s a pleasure to be able to open a game and know somewhere there is a how to video to help clarify rules that are not always clear in games. Thank you for the time and this channel. It’s much appreciated.
Thanks so much for taking the time to write Manuel - very nice to get your words of encouragement and support. I love this hobby, and it's been a pleasure to be able to support it in this small way!
Rodney your smile and presence are welcoming and joyful. You pulled the most boss move spinning that game box at the start of the video. You did not ever break eye contact with the camera-impressive.
I was in the store and this game caught my eye. I had to immediately check my phone to see if Rodney had done a video on it. Purchased it moments later. Now to make my wife and daughter watch it with me so I can get them to the table. My daughter loves the way you teach, and I agree. Thanks again!
This looks like a cross between FORMULA D and FLAMME ROUGE. I was only half interested in this until you started showing all the modules. Love the Championship ideas with asymmetry for the cars, and things like sponsors. Might have to add this to the collection. Great teach as always. 👍
This game simulates real racing well. Not so much the technical details but the essence with similar risks/rewards. This is the number one game on my Christmas wish list(please read this Santa!)
I got friends coming over to grill some burgers and play some board games. I don't remember the rules, so I'm watching this video as i grill so I'll be prepared when we get to the table. Thanks Rodney!
Thanks for the clear and instructive tutorial as always! I thought this game wouldn't really appeal to me, but after seeing the mechanisms in more detail and reading the dev diary a bit, it's looking all the more enticing. Guess that's another one for the wishlist!😁
I'm playing this for the first time tomorrow, so thank you for the teach. I crave uniqueness and this game doesn't look like anything else I've ever played. It also looks like a lot of fun! Can't wait to play it. :)
Rodney you're the man, so glad you have this one on the channel. I just got mine in the mail today finally, and my mom is gonna go down later. Thank you sir, love the vids 🤙
Your tutorial videos are amazing, Rodney. I've definitely expanded my board game collection after watching alot of your videos, by the time they arrive, I already know how to play them. I have Heat coming next week and can't wait to play it. Keep up the incredible work 😊
I've been waiting for this game for months now. Looks like it's finally about to release and I'm so glad this video was released as it helped me make my final decision to buy the game. This looks really interesting. I've played Formula D, Downforce, and Rallyman but this game looks like it might end up being the best of the racing games I've played. Thanks for another great video!
This actually sounds a lot like it has a good game feel. Ideally, you want a racing game to feel like you are controlling and car and trying to outwit your rivals.
Again, another brilliant video. Rodney, I definitely prefer your English/Canadian tutorials over the videos that are available to me in Dutch (mother tongue). Keep the good stuff coming!
Commenting on yet another Rodney WIP video because I still see Rodney responds to every comment! Rodney I hopefully you have a wonderful new year and that all your wildest dreams come true because you are possibly the nicest human ever...
Rodney, I think game companies should employ you and every time a new game is released, the instruction manual should have a QR code linking to a video of you showing how to play their game. Games are much easier to learn when watching you explain them rather than reading a long written manual with 'see diagrams a b and c for scenarios'.
Wow Rodney, the production quality just gets better and better. This game looks amazing and I have now ordered it. Thanks for such a clear explanation.
thank you! great video as always! I like the game, but as a fan of Formula De and Flamme Rouge, it is hard for me not to compare… Would be great to add more tracks for Heat, and… if possible to share some similarities with real tracks. Thank you!
I am not sure how this game could be getting more hype right now! It is just "speeding" through reviews and winning trophies like there's no tomorrow!!!!
So what's the difference between 1-4 numbers and 0&5 numbers? Only that, 1-4 can be played from hand and from deck (cause of stress), and 0-5 can be played only from hand? Thanks! Great video!!
They let you move 0 or 5, but cards without the speed icon can't be used to satisfy certain requirements: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ychy0Tgegjk.htmlfeature=shared&t=467
Hi Rodney, thanks for this video, great job! I got my copy last week and it was already a huge hit this last weekend, we just had a doubt about the split stream rule, does it apply only if the car is right behind another car (as shown in the illustration) or if the car is “diagonally” behind does it also apply?
Assuming you're still still in a slipstream position after resolving any other steps prior to the Slipstream step that occurs in Step 6: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ychy0Tgegjk.html, then yes.
Rules question - If you qualify for the Adrenaline "bonus" of add 1 extra speed, does that mean you need to do the boost action during step 5 React to get the +1 bonus? Or can you just take the +1 bonus without doing the Boost action?
Great video!! On the react step, what does the heat symbol allow you to do? Cooldown removes heat, + is boost, and ... is from bonus module. Unsure what the heat action allows. Great video!!
Question: 2 opponents are right behind the Check Corner line (both spots filled) and your speed would have put you in their spots, but you can't occupy it so you end up behind them. You then choose to slipstream which puts you over the Check Corner line. I know you ignore the speed value from the slipstream, but what speed do you use to check the corner? The speed you drew on the cards, or the actual amount of speed spaces you moved (which would be 1 less on your cards due to those spots being filled by your opponent)?
It's the amount you on the cards, not the distance you moved. Think of the cards as being how hard your engine is running, no matter what distance you went. Hope that helps!
Thanks Rodney, another superb video as usual. In the Gameplay overview you say that "the first player to cross the finish line after the final lap, wins", but that isn't always true, right? Cheers
Thanks Pintar! And yes, that's correct - that was just a quick summary at the start of the video to give a sense of the general objective. The full game ending rule/winner information is found in the contents of the video.
10:28 In the react step (5), you explained the two icons for the options to boost and cooldown, but did not explain the two other icons in the step (the overheating engine icon and the three dots icon). What are they?
That's covered here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ychy0Tgegjk.htmlfeature=shared&t=665 (which is to say, I don't cover them, because they relate to the option modules :) ).
Hello, awesome game. Thank for the Video. Helped me to learn it completely. We actual made a few mistakes. I have one final question: Its about "HEAT Cards" Example: My heat pile is empty but I have one in my hand. So I shift into the 2nd gear (Lets assume I was in 1 or 3, because I would not be able to switch from 4 to 2 without Head in the Heat pile). Then I resolve step 4 and because I am last, I will receive 1 Cooldown. So I discard one heat and in Step 5 I will now activate Boost? So I can first use cooldown and then activate boost?
Hi Florian, thanks for reaching out. Normally I do my best to answer all rules questions on videos I make, but I shot this long enough ago, that I don't know the answer off the top of my head, and would have to do some research in the rule book - unfortunately I'm a bit backed on video production this week, so I just don't know when I'll get an opportunity to look into this for you. You might be able to get a quicker answer on the forums on BoardGameGeek, if that might be helpful in the meantime.
Great video! Quick question about the Aces (not covered in this video, but maybe you can help anyway): do you know if the Aces curve rules apply after they pass the finish line, or do they go as fast and far as possible, ignoring the curve rules? I found the rulebook not precise enough regarding this. Thanks for your help!
Question when only using base cards: What’s the prerequisite for participating in the React phase? Can anyone who has heat in their engine boost during react, or would one had to have cooled down during that turn/phase in order to be eligible? Thanks!
Question... in adrenaline phase i do have one cool down that could be performed... but... do I have access to a cool down only if I decided to use adrenaline? Or can I do it even if I do not use adrenaline? Sure if Im the last to play! Thanks in advance😊
I want to try to answer your question, but I'm not sure I understand "exactly" what you're asking. If you are last to play you get a cooldown from the Adrenaline step that you can use during the Reaction step. You can do this whether or not you added the extra space of movement during the Adrenaline step.
Hi, I've checked the rulebook and the video, and I still don't get what the "upgrades" (0 and 5) are used for. They are not speed cards, so they don't help move your car. Are they just filler cards to avoid playing heat cards from your hand?
They work like the other numbered cards, but because they are "upgrade" cards, there are times you ignore them when revealed (which you'll find discussed in the video - I'm forgetting at exactly which time stamp right now).
Great tutorial video. One question: the upgrade cards with the "0" and the "5" do not have the speed indicator on them. Can you still move those spaces if they are played, or are they "space filler" cards?
These still move your car as normal - it's just that these don't count (and you must redraw) if they are flipped when you need to reveal a speed indicator card from your deck.
So in step 4 for being last place you get adrenaline and 1 cooldown. So if your in gear 2 and in last place does this mean you cooldown 2? 4 cooldown if in 1st gear?
