I married my White British Husband 45 Years ago. My parents loved him because HE LOVED and Respected ME and my Indian Culture. His family accepted ME. The backlash we got was from extended Indian family in India. That is more cultural and Religious difference. We have mixed race Sons and now grandchildren from Daughters in Law from other backgrounds. We are blended and HAPPY. The U.K. gives us that. Proud to be British of Indian heritage and HAPPY. My partner’s daughter got married to an Indian. We all went to their wedding and celebrated apart from his family, they refused to come. They rejected her and and their own son. Their marriage lasted less than 18 months.
I had exactly the same problem and I’m white and she was Asian. Her family just did not like me because I was white and didn’t fit in with their religion or culture. It was blatant racism what her family did. Her dad, brothers, uncles came around to my flat saying they’d cut me up if they find out I’m still seeing her and even asked if we slept together. I obviously said yes and the father went nuts because she said we were just friends when it was clearly a relationship. It is difficult for any white person wanting to marry a Middle Eastern woman. This is why the religion thing keeps getting brought up here.
Not long ago I was in a London pub and got chatting with a well educated black British writer, who had travelled the world extensively, and he told me that the worst racism he had ever witnessed was in Africa. He said that dark skinned Africans hate light skinned Africans, and visa versa. He also shared his own opinion of Somalis, and let's just say that it wasn't favourable to put it very mildly.
I did a course in construction years ago with some Senegalese, I asked why they were here as it was a French colony, this is what they told me.
