Thanks Carl and Dave ... I was very pleased at what an improvement the DIY spinner knob was on the Antenna tuner . Sometimes the simplest little thing makes a huge improvement... Heathkit was going out of business when the SA2060 was being sold we were told it was "use what we got " and so we had the plain old no frills knob on the tuner roller inductor. Zenith was shutting Heathkit down ... you know I still like old Zenith radios ...73 Bob

Bob, you talked about turning it into an auto tuner. Did Heath get very far with it? I'm thinking of putting stepper motors on each off the tuning knobs. The only thing stopping me is l'd like to be able to go back to stock configuration if it doesn't work as well as I think it might. Any idea where I might get an extra front panel and top cover for it? I'm either going to mount it directly on the tuning shafts or use sprockets and plastic chain, and mount the steppers on the lid. For a first try, I'm going to do a straight "memory" tuner that just looks up frequency and settings. If that works well, I'll try actually looking at the SWR and fine tuning for an SWR dip.
