Today I will tell you about the experience of using and features of the Green 18 pellet boiler, as well as reveal the topic:"What is a pellet boiler, what are its distinctive features from other boilers". How many pellets does the boiler really consume when warming the house with 200mm of Technonicol mineral plate (the house is built according to my technology without cold bridges).
My pellet boiler works either on pellets (any: 6 mm, 8 mm, agropellets, etc.), or on ordinary firewood, or on small/medium fraction coal.
The pellet boiler has 3 chambers: (1) in the upper chamber it is mounted in a heat exchanger; it is cleaned with a special scraper (or ramrod); (2) the middle one is the combustion chamber; inside it there is a retort burner, into which an automatic auger, using a gearbox, feeds pellets from the hopper; the motor of the auger drive is controlled by a DM-350 controller mounted on top of the boiler; this controller also controls the power of the air blowing fan, which exits into the combustion chamber through many holes in the upper part of the" plate " of the retort burner; (3) the lower chamber is an ash pan with an ash box; everything that burns is poured into this box, and this ash must be removed once every 3 weeks (when using white birch pellets with low ash content); the pellet boiler should be cleaned at the same frequency.
From the bottom to the rear outside of the boiler, a boost fan is located to supply air to the combustion chamber through special small holes in the upper part of the retort burner plate and thereby regulate the combustion intensity.Gorenje is located in the lower part of the boiler. At the back in the middle of the boiler there is a threaded outlet for connecting the return line of the coolant, and also on the side of it there is a backup outlet of the coolant drain (I turned it off, since for standard situations a common drain tap, which I installed at the bottom point of the heating pipeline, is enough).
On top of the rear is a box-holder of the chimney (it is completely welded to the boiler and is located behind the heat exchanger unit). The chimney is placed vertically on it.
The safety group consists of a safety valve, an automatic air vent and a pressure gauge that shows the pressure of the coolant in the boiler.
On the top cover of the boiler there is a threaded outlet of the feed line. A safety thermostat (looks like a small sensor) is installed on the pipe connected to it. When the temperature reaches a temperature of 90 degrees, the controller automatically turns off the charge and supply of pellets.
On the wall of the chimney box-holder on the left is a resistive wide-range flue gas temperature sensor. I have a special hole made on the boiler with a 1/2 " internal thread, into which it is screwed.
I will tell you what I have independently improved in the boiler. First of all, I completely changed all the thermal insulation: I put a high-temperature foil plate made of basalt fiber. As a result, the boiler began to "keep warm" much longer and the heating rate increased (with the MCP turned off). The temperature of the boiler's outer casings has also noticeably decreased, and the heat in the boiler room has disappeared. Secondly, I changed the fan to a less powerful one (WPA-117 with an electric power of 34W). Initially, the VPP engineers equipped the boiler with a WPA-120 fan model (with an electric power of 83W), which is usually set to 35..50kw boilers. The consumption of pellets with it was huge (2.5..3.0 kg / hour). The controller worked in extreme modes, almost without entering the proportional adaptive control mode. Reducing the electrical power of the fan also reduced the load on the UPS batteries.
As a result of the experiment, I found out: the boiler spent 3 kg of pellets in 4 hours of operation. It turns out about 18 kg/day.
