konichiwa kimono wearers, you’re in Nozawa for the pow pow, but make sure you explore the town and its other activities.
Nozawa Onsen flourished as a hot spring town during the Edo period, from 1603 to 1868. And the hot tub parties back then were bloody legendary, sake barrels floating in the water, samurai chucking bombs into the onsen. Wild times, but none of this is allowed nowadays. There are 13 public onsen baths in Nozawa which are run by local families. So, you’re in an onsen town, you definitely need to take your kit off and have a dip at least once.
An alternative to getting your kit off for an onsen is a onsen footbath. You can do that in Nozawa Onsen and you can also explore the many shrines and temples dotted around town.
There's plenty to do, so come and check it out with me...
