RJD is arguably the greatest heavy metal singer of all time. His time with Rainbow, Sabbath, solo, and Heaven and Hell is just beyond fucking fantastic. He is sorely missed.
You know, I've been a rocker for 45 years, but RJD is a standout in heavy metal. Didn't discover his level closely Until 2yrs ago. Zeppelin fan Is almost HM.
I'm 44 years old, they wrote Heaven and Hell the year I was born and I really didn't know much about the Dio years of Black Sabbath till I was in my 20's!🤘🤘
SET LIST IS AS FOLLOWS Intro 0:01 E5150 1.) 0:34 The Mob Rules 2.) 4:44 Children Of The Sea 3.) 12:03 I (am anger) 4.) 18:47 Bible Black 5.) 25:46 Time Machine 6.) 34:14 Fear 7.) 39:18 Falling Off The Edge Of The World 8.) 45:39 Follow The Tears 9.) 52:05 Die Young 10) 59:38 Heaven & Hell 11.)1:19:46 Country Girl/ Neon Nights Medley
Rarely does a band reunite and it is anything other than a nostalgia trip. But these mighty gentlemen delivered a masterclass in musicianship and power. So glad they finished as friends ❤
Heaven and Hell is perhaps THE QUINTESSENTIAL METAL ALBUM. Opened the 80s with an instant, perfect album, after ruling the 70s. Sabbath is an amazing band.
@Gerry Berry Bill left because of his drinking and depression (source was the Sabbath Story Volume 2 video). Bill had also lost both his parents in a short period of time not long before that. the only person he told he was leaving was Ronnie, "I'm off then, Ron.", also the lyrics are great, the previous lyric writer geezer butler agrees, Heaven and Hell was written when geezer when not in the band, he left for a bit, before Ronnie joined, but returned when they was recording, neon knights being the last song to be done, Mob Rules is where you have Geezer doing lyrics again, voodoo i think, but he has said in the past it is rather nice not having to write the lyrics for the singer, Ozzy didn't write the lyrics in sabbath that was all Geezer during the 1970s, the only ones Ozzy did being the synthesizer driven “who are you” and “am I going insane” from sabotage. get the facts right.
Everybody on that stage is an absolute LEGEND! Kickin´ ass so hard. An unbeatable force of Ronnie James, Iommi, Geezer & Vinny Appice. This only can be played LOUD.
A shame I met his wife last year, a class act. Dio always loved his fans. I'm 20 and I'm getting goosebumps watching this. His hometown is not too far from me.
@chrishopkins209 This was my immediate thought once I started watching this musical masterpiece. R.I.P Mr. Ronnie James Dio. What a Man with a singing voice to match.
Too bad Sharon felt compelled scrape some extra pennies together, using Tommy Clufetos, who was already on retainer as the drummer for Ozzy Osbourne Band, to drum for Sabbath. IMO, his style didn't mesh well on "Bark At The Moon", & other OZZY tunes, for Black Sabbath, he didn't have that unique swing element. If it's not the mighty BILL FUCKING WARD, on his rightful throne, then Vinnie should have gotten the call. When the contracts were signed for the "REUNION" World Tour and the rehearsals began, the Companies providing the tour insurance, the underwriters, had concerns about Bill Ward's overall health, as he had heart issues in the years leading up to 1998, when the original members began to talk about getting back together. So it was the insurance companies who brought up the subject of a "stand-in", in the event Bill's health declined. For Tony and Geezer, the obvious choice was Vinnie Appice. Bill Ward performed amazingly during every date of the tour. Vinnie, was on the first leg of the tour, later on, he was on call, staying in the hub city, as the tour moved from region to region.
Geoff deserves a lot of credit for his work with Sabbath, but on this and other Heaven & Hell stuff it was actually Scott Warren from Dio on keys/rhythm guitar.
@@ScreamWright Yeah Geoff was a great guy. I always tried to be at the front on the right in front of Tony at shows so you could look across to the left and see Geoff tucked away. My Dad had a curtain business and we did Geoff's curtains during the 1989 Headless Cross Tour. He lived about 10 mins away from where I live now. In all the years i saw them live with Geoff I only saw him take a bow at the end of a show once. He added a lot to the music during the Dio era. Always wondered why Scott Warren came in during the Heaven and Hell shows other than I guess he did the keyboards in the Dio band.
@@RetroByteZone I won tickets and an autographed poster to the Toronto show on the headless cross tour. Unfortunately I was living in Alta and couldn’t attend, I wonder what I did with the poster 🧐
As a rhythm guitarist I love seeing this comment. Unless you are Rush, it is very challenging to play a guitar solo live and not have the sound fall of the edge of the world, (ZZ Top etc.) and yet as critical to the music as rhythm guitarists are, so often we are still literally relegated to the shadows, so much so that even here there is debate over who was actually playing rhythm that night.
What DIO did with Black Sabbath was OUTSTANDING!! Nobody can touch him!! The same with Ozzy..no one like him.. Different styles under Black Sabbath Land.. What an amazing show !!!!!
I struggle not to choke up watching this, I was here and I’m so so glad I got to see Dio’s last proper run before leaving this world. To hear he was in pain whilst performing to such a high level is equally beautiful yet horrifying. This is easily in the top 5 live performances I’ve ever seen, it truly felt like he knew this was his last huge European show.
It's like a metal orchestra. I can't believe the difference I hear between when this man speaks and when this man sings! Staggering. And he was 66 years of age at the time, only to live less than another year. Hard to comprehend.
Ronnie passed away 16th May, 2010, cannot believe shortly after this amazing performance. Almost 10 years passed but i even miss you more Ronnie.. rest in peace..
I just cannot believe how amazing Dio was at his age here. 67 or 68 singing like that. Not only was he one of the greatest metal singers, but at that time of life?, Wow! I'm sure that very few could match let alone, surpass his ability.
I'm in tears hearing the magnificent Ronnie James Do one last time. (R.I.P.). Amazingly, his voice was better in 2009 than in 2005. Iommi and Butler were just as great on their respective strings. Black Sabbath was done until RJD came along and then there was a real resurrection of Black Sabbath!
The entire LP Mob Rules from beginning to end is immaculate perfect you could not ask for a better LP put the headphones on and listen from beginning to end the more you listen to it the better it gets wow we need more music like that today to calm everybody down and relax❤❤😂😅🎉🎉🎉
Tony was on top of his game for this one... Blistering trills, lightning runs, impeccable tone and a wall of sound that was as powerful as all of Heaven and Hell. And to one of the most powerful voices in Rock and Roll history... Rest in Peace Ronnie James... Well Done by All!
Whoever did sound for this deserves an award. It's unbelievable that these songs are even better here than on the albums. Would love to have a copy of Dehumanizer with this mix, because "I" never sounded this good.
Ronnie is a true giant of metal singing.. 😍 he enjoyed his music and is well deserved resting in Heaven. A real pleasure, this concert.. and I say this with fifty years of experience with this music! Many thanks guys.. ❤ 👍👍👍
I got to see him two times touring for his solo albums. both were epic shows and I've always heard he loved his fans. I played non-stop Dio all day when I heard about him leaving this earth.
To the very last minute of this gig Dio was giving an A+ performance, even at his age. So "Dio" really means GOD. Hands down best voice in metal from back then till the end of days!
@@mikekeeler6362 meanwhile some clown takes money from kids selling a ''cool'' adict image and a ''no more tours'' marketing cause he is 'probably'' dying for at least 3 decades
I'm 58 I saw dio live in Tucson az. In 1983 or 84 r. I. P he sounds the same... 6 months before he passed my son was at a casino in Albuquerque n.m he was blessed to get a photo with him and he signed merch dio had a big heart for all his fans
When I clicked on this I thought to myself, "I'll bet they open with Mob Rules." I had to laugh as soon as they started playing, then I got a bit misty-eyed. This is an awesome concert. RIP RJD.
The whole band kicks ass also think of how old these fellows are there all in great shape awesome performers But Deo is in his sixties probably late 60s singing as great as he could what a loss to the world when he passed I pray the rest are well Getting Old sucks I’m 65 and can’t even remember all their names never mind all the songs Lyrics but their still one of the best
I saw them in California and they jammed. Saw them on Mob Rules too with Outlaws. They jammed just like here. They could use the Sabbath name then before Sharon Oz owned it. Dio is in top form here. A trooper. A Rock Star.
Last week I watched a lot of Dio and it took me back 35 years with teary eyes. His music is a huge part of my life and so is this line up of Black Sabbath. I miss RJD bad but his impact on this world will be eternal. Thanks for posting this show, they are killing it.
blackmore/dio , iommi/dio, dio/campbell, what more do you need. thanks to yt you have access to all of his work and hardly a day goes by without dio in my life. heaven and hell will be played when they are putting me 6ft. under. hoping i will sit close enough to him on some cloud to hear him sing forever;)))
The little guy with the BIG voice! Watching him on stage with Rainbow in the 70's sold me on his music. Then he easily replaced Ozzie in Sabbath and took them into a different league. He turned them into a true supergroup. That's when I discovered Elf. RJD became and remains my favourite rock singer of all time. Even better than Plant, Jack Russel and Paul Rogers etc.
What a solo there by Tony on "I", brilliant. Dio aready sick here, but as a Metal God, he gives his all. RIP my friend, see you on the Other Side. Thanks for the upload 🤘

@Nirandorn Minrintara hard to replace the chemistry between Tony, Geezer and Bill. Even there were better drummers (Powell ...) then Bill in Black Sabbath, it did not worked the same way. Sad was not in shape for The End tour (the finnacial smokeshow was all bullshit, problem was elsewhere).
Saw Heaven & Hell in Sydney Australia when they toured down under. Absolutely awesome ! Black Sabbaths Heaven And Hell in my opinion is one of the greatest metal albums ever recorded! Dio took them to the next level 🇦🇺🤘🇦🇺
Lucky you, never got to see them. Yes! it is still my No 1 since 1980, and I have thousands of Heavy Metal albums. Kind Regards (from sunny Coast QLD).
To anybody reading this, I pray that whatever is hurting you or whatever you are constantly stressing about gets better. May the dark thoughts, the overthinking, and the doubt exit your mind may clarity replace confusion. may peace and calmness fill your life.
Music was stirred in Tony's mind, what an illusion artistically well accomplished ,afrinkingmazin....thx been a fan since 1960s70s80s90s010s++++++++++×++£○¥e
What an epic performance... the band sounds awesome!! Ronnie in all his glory, and the riff master Iommi, killing it!! Gezzer and Vinnie holding it all together
When you go to a concert like this you understand every word And every guitar with and don't forget the base and the drums follow behind.Wow this is heavy metal
Amazing. These guys were old when they did this gig, and Dio probably ill already. And look at the energy, the commitment and the will to play they could show at every second. This project was a gem. A masterful class of heavy/doom rock by the creators of the genre.
Hanging out in downtown Lexington, Kentucky one night back in the mid 90 's , paid 8 dollar cover at the door of some bar , they had a band , I get inside and holy mother effin hell it's Dio !!! Got to watch Ronnie from about 5 feet away , never forget it , metal God ,RIP.
Iommi is a century defining artist and the most underrated guitarist in history. Heavy Metal, Alternative, Grunge, Goth, everything outside of mainstream rock, he invented it.
wow a year before Dio passed away i am pretty sure he was fighting his cancer at the time they performed this concert just amazing. What a singer. and to perform with such power and strength in his vocals just incredible. He is truly missed.
This is just great music, great rock n roll, performed by just the best performers! anything I write will not match the feeling of hearing this true rockers! long live rock n roll!!!
If I remember right the 2010 tour w/Dio was cancelled due to his cancer diagnosis. Some dates were played after he died with Glenn Hughes on vocals. This is most likely the Wacken Festival from 2009. Either way a few months later he was diagnosed with cancer and died. He sounds at the top of his game here.
Soundtrack of my life … So glad I was on this tour able to see this incredible groups of talented musicians one more time. Rest in peace to the one and only RJD ❤🤘🏼
Sorry to nitpick, but this concert was actually recorded on July 30, 2009. (This DVD was released posthumously in late 2010.) Ronnie James Dio was diagnosed with stomach cancer later that year, and their final performance with him was in late August 2009. Heaven & Hell was planning to perform in 2010 after Ronnie got some R&R after undergoing cancer treatments, but unfortunately Ronnie's health declined and he died on May 16, 2010. Thank you for posting this awesome concert video!!! I need to get this on DVD.
