Johnny wrote this in 1984. Their record label manager took them out for dinner and they were getting stories out of him, including one where the manager bought someone a guitar. Johnny Marr asked their manager if he’d buy him a guitar and in a moment of weakness he said yes. Marr waited all day and thought he might miss his chance, but saw a red ES-355 in a window lit up in NYC and bought it. Took it back to the hotel and this is the first thing he came up with that very evening in the guitar. Whole video about it here on YT. Brilliant cover btw!

They're pretty difficult. Juan Valdivia, guitarist of Heroes del Silencio, was influenced by Marr. You should check out some of their songs from their first 2 albums.

This is absolutely brilliant, the first few riffs to this song is the very first riffs johhny Marr played when he got given his guitar by the manager he signed with which was bought for him in new York. He got it back to the hotel and this was the song he wrote.

I’m very new to The Smiths, and i am still trying to get into them, but i gotta say this is one of my favorite songs by them because Morrissey’s voice sounds amazing on it definitely when his voice gets high since he’s usually pretty deep, but none only that it just has a good beat, and tone it to, and it’s very catchy. But i am glad to have used my valuable time listening to this cover lovely cover dude the guitar tone you used for this song was amazing~, also you should definitely do Tears For Fears, The Cure, and Depeche Mode, sometime to.

😲 one of the hardest songs for me to play, I mean it takes every ounce of my guitar skill to hit those little strummers, and progressions... this guy here really knows how to do it justice!!!
