A new report out Wednesday says some popular fruit juices may contain heavy metal contaminants like lead, arsenic, and cadmium. Consumer Reports tested 45 packaged fruit juices and found measurable levels of heavy metal in every product. Long-term exposure to these metals could cause serious health risks, including kidney disease and certain types of cancer. Anna Werner reports.

Your bottled water could have more lead than your fruit juice and you wouldn't know unless you have a number to base your comparison. It's normal and legal to have trace amounts of lead in drinking water and bottled water.

I mean, you realize that the reason for this is most likely because of things like the condition of the water in the area, or other environmental reasons, things which they basically don't have control over. You're not siding with science unless you are considering things like that. If you actually think they are adding heavy metals and wasting resources doing so, then you aren't really thinking through this.

@@MindBat Adults drink or smoke and its a choice. Fruit juice is largely consumed by kids. That's why I find this so upsetting. There are labels of warning on cigarettes and alcohol to the consumer if they want to take the risk of using. I have never seen any labels of warning on fruit juices.

What I found most disturbing was the matter-of-fact suggestion of the reporter in response to all these poisons in the drinks - 'just cut down the amount you drink'. Omg if it were here in my country there would be immediate callbacks of all the poisoned products by all the supermarkets and an investigation into all those companies. (eg. I bought a cooking oil which I discovered tasted like plastic - I complained to the supermarket and the company - had my money refunded, product replaced, the distributor assured me they would check the product and it was off the shelves about a fortnight later. This is common sense, right?) companies should have an obligation to meet consumer standards. Appalled that such news is followed with zero suggestions about company liabilities to consumers or more urgent warnings...just wow. Frightening.

DEAR MOMS: I heard about this weeks ago and here's what I do for my little one: squeeze half a lemon in a glass, 1 tbsp of frozen mixed organic berries, 1 tbsp of honey - heat until everything is dissolved together, then place in freezer until desired temperature. My 5-year-old loved it! You could make a big batch of this in a glass jug and keep in fridge for 1 week. This is an alternative if you don't have a juicer.

Andrew no. Purified water is better, but think about getting a good Berkey filter. It will remove many contaminates out of your water. It won’t remove all, but it has a great reputation. Soda is worse than juice and sometimes water is worse too. Depends on where you live.

When I was younger, I remember the few times I had certain apple juices, my stomach would start to cramp.Didn't think much of it then but I stopped drinking apple juice as I got older.

I stopped giving my son juices and sodas. staying away from anything that has corn syrup. if I do buy juice it's the organic ones. also stopped certain cereals and chips.

Scary. I make my own juices these days. It's not hard or that expensive if you can afford a decent juicer. I also control what's in it - I don't have to worry about sweetners, shelf stabilizers or weird ingredients added for "freshness". But even that isn't 100% safe given all the pesticides they use if you can't afford organic and recent recalls. They should have included a list or at least a link to a list in the description.

I've always watered my kids juices down. They only get 2-3onces of juice per-serving. I even water down the Kool-Aid. I've done this since they started drinking juice around 8months old. They drink plenty of water with just a hint of juice/Kool-Aid.
