Letting off some steam on my Cortex bass with heavy fingerstyle plucking, bends, pull-offs and hammer-ons, love digging in for that growl on a maple neck! I’m playing a Swiss Cortex bass, their Napoleon deluxe model with Nordstrand Dual Coil pickups, strung up with Ernie Ball Super Slinkys. It has a mahogany body, walnut top, maple fingerboard and chocolate maple neck. I used a Darkglass Hyper Luminal compressor and a Rodenberg 707b booster, the signal was recorded straight into a Focusrite audio interface into Cubase. Drums were made with Korg pads and Addictive Drums, mastering was done in Ozone 4. More grooves in the works, thanks for watching!

I wouldn't call it bad technique. Just different technique. Probably not sustainable, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have its purpose and time and place.

@@scottbeckman95 no worries! I've just run across a fair amount of people on the internet that genuinely get upset when someone doesn't play the 'proper' way and it bothers me. I'm self taught and heavy handed in my bass playing from being inspired by Flea but it works for me and I've finally taught myself how to dial it back and stay consistent but I still love wailing on my strings to get those wild gritty punchy attacks a lot of the time.

Hey, I’ve been checking out your grooves for a while, and I really dig your style. Very unique! For some reason when I was watching this today I wondered: What’s your favorite scale length? What’s your preferred string spacing? What gauge of strings do you pluck?

How much must this fellow spend on new bass strings each month?

I'm not nearly as good as this man but for a while I was buying a pack of strings a week because I was so in love with the crisp attack and metallic clangy-ness sound that only comes from fresh strings. So $80-120 a month depending on which strings I got. I've learned to appreciate the milder sound of worn in strings and my wallet has appreciated it too. Luckily for my wallet, unluckily for me, I'm not currently playing out or recording parts but of I was I'd be back to putting fresh strings on or boiling strings at least once a week.
