Hedder Wars Fitment: Pre-engine install of 2" primary Corvette Hedman Hedders to BBC 454 to check for fitment issues. How many of you Hot rodders have been through what I call "HEDDER WARS"? Trying to get your hedders not to leak or burn your expensive plug wires, and miss all the components of the engine and the car.... So having enjoyed this War before, I'm going to start this battle on the engine stand itself, and deal with as many issues that I can find there. We will be installing the spark plugs & wires with a Moroso loom kit and see what type of clearance issues we find and what we can do about keeping them from getting burned and causing that engine miss... Watch and enjoy as we work through any fitment issues we find with these hedders...😀

I use Hooker Headers for my 427 in my 56 2 dr sedan. Header bolts with keyways cut in them and header locks. No leakage! But don't support your exhaust system with the headers!!

I would recommend to this guy to get an old Headers by Ed catalog because most of these mass produced headers have horrible tube and collectors sizes, especially if these engines are driven on the street.

What are those headers supposed to fit? The ones I have in my camaro hit the number 5 spark plug pretty bad and then the number 6 plug dipstick wars. Those seem to fit much better compared to what I have! Otherwise after 10 years I haven't had a single issue with them!

Your plug wires are nice and long to route around the back of the engine. And I like the bendable boots. What is that set you got there? Thanks for the video

Question for ya- would you recommend installing long tube headers before or after installing a 454 into a 1972 Monte Carlo?

I just ran into this issue. Tall deck block. The moroso pan I have did not have a provision for a dipstick. I utilized a th350 dipstick from lokar and swagelok fittings to make a custom design. I think my headers are 1 7/8s still tight though.

I always find somthing that needs a little massaging to make my hedder install work and also not burn the plug wires... The heads were using dont have stock location ports and that can change things as well...

@@Myersmetalworks my dart 335 pro 1s heads are the same spark plug style. They fit my particular headers quite well. I'm still going to run moroso wire guards and generic Kevlar boot covers. I'm debating on running e3 spark plugs, what are your thoughts? 9.25:1 cr 598 ci

Hi InstrumentMech388.... Sorry I have no experience with that type of spark plug... Give them a try and see.... I have a little more experience reading the older style plugs for rich or lean conditions and ignition timing so I stick with them.... But some times its not a bad idea to try new things....

Ya probably don't want it to change the look but those DEI titanium boot protectors work well. Instrumentmech I've ran the E3s, 14 or 15 years ago. We had some misfire problems with them. Plus they've gotta bunch of material hanging in the chamber. To me it doesn't make sense to give any incentive for preignition... NGK makes good stuff. If you're pushing the limits on pump gas something like a Brisk silver may be worth a try but they're expensive. Not sure what they run nowadays but NASCAR ran surface gap plugs in early 2000s. Fire/warm em up on normal plugs and swap over (what a pain in the butt 😅).

I’m 19 and don’t have a lot of money I want to keep the stock heads on my 83 454 but want headers. I just not know if my head ports are round or square if they are square can I put round ones on or just square. And any recommendations plz would help.

I think all the exhaust ports are basically the same shape...The oval or Square port you may hear about is the intake side of the head, not the exhaust ports... The only other thought I have would be the header tube size.... Smaller for low-end torque and pulling... larger for higher rpm power for racing...
