I'm so pissed Sharmin Segal was given so much screentime, she was the most boring female character in the entire show. I wanted to see more of Sonakshi, Shaheeda Sheikh, Richa Chadda and Manisha but instead we get a nepokid who has zero expressions being the main lead with her blank expression and botox getting most of the screentime. Such a shame really
Except For Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Niece. Everybody acted superbly. 🔥🔥. His Niece can't act for sure. Her love story angle was pulling the story down because of her acting. Straight face in all scenes
This video is "SCREAMING" paid review. This guy who dissects into every minute details of a movies and series barely touched upon the horrible writing of the movie, and also he heavily criticizes the nepotism product of Bollywood (and rightfully so), but for some unknown reason he didn't even touch upon SHARMIN'S awful acting. She's way worse than Sara, Ananya, and Jhanvi combined, but he didn't utter a single word about her. Such a SUS behavior.
INACCURACIES OF HEERAMANDI: 1, coronavirus news of 2022 in 1920's newspaper fareedan was reading. 2, heeramandi set in punjab , bhansali used lakhnawi dresses for male and female instead of punjabi suits. 3. Umera ahmed novel of 2004 peer e kamil was shown in 1920's era, umera was not even born then 😂. 4. SLB couldn't get the cut of an englishman's suit. Those were either double breasted or 3 piece with waistcoat. 5, georgraphical inaccuracy of the landscape, some lake shown when there was none in actual lahore, The most evident landmark still visible from every building in today’s remnants of Heera Mandi is the Shahi Qilla-Grand Mosque’s doom and minarets skyline. If you call it Lahore, show Lahore." 6, alamzeb reading urdu book from left to right as if she was reading some English poem 😂 How can your creative genius let go of such major inaccuracies in this period drama. Lahore stilll exist and you can't take such creative liberties. The world will laugh lol 😂
Bro do you think usse pata nhi hoga but Shan ne multiple videos ki deal ki hogi. Ab pending promotion karke baat khatam karna chata hoga nhi company shan or case daal degi. So ..... understand it.
Your review is confusing. At one point you’re saying wtf did I watch and it’s not worth it. At another you’re saying it’s a must watch. Pick a side buddy!
Kuch cheezein achi h kuch kharab h wahi baat hai na. Aur jab Sanjay Leela bhansali koi cheez direct karre ho to logo ki expectations zada hoti hai.. because he makes masterpieces. Maine abhi Tak nhi dekhi h .. but I'm keen to watch.
It might be entertaining to watch and i will watch it but honestly i am done with this glorification of prostitution most of these prostitutes lived tragic lives as they were held in human trafficking ring
Weird how you talked about if it is right to present prostitution like this to audience but you made a whole video about animal movie review against dhruv rathee....
@@kapiljain1491 I didn't decide but he decided in his previous video... Watch that video before commenting, weird how this RU-vidrs always manipulating their followers and doesn't have any stand on any topic
Lack of research and common sense, thy name is heeramandi. Story of Lahore (Punjab) and vibe of Lucknow just because tawaifs and nawabs were muslims ? Are all Muslims only lucknowi, hyderabadi and kashmiri and do they all talk in heavy Urdu ? No ! No one in Lahore would talk in this hum-aap Lucknow style even now, and definitely not in pre-independence time. SLB is merely a set designer not a moviemaker. And the way most people are calling it a masterpiece clearly shows that SLB knows his audience is a fool and thus he doesn't need to read history to make a historical film.
you know he is a cheap reviewer cause he always gives negative reviews to get views but when animal like chapri disgusting movie came his reviews were positive now tell me what do you expect from him
@@roseblake354 ??? I'm not talking about his review, I have heard him for the first time. I'm talking about how I also think that heeramandi is poorly made and researched, just like most of SLB's work. My points however are different than this reviewer's. This series touches new lows of idiocy of not knowing the time period and place in which it is placed.
Dear Shan, this is the FIRST TIME EVER, I HAVE WATCHED A SHOW BEFORE and THEN WATCHED YOUR REVIEW! As much I love all of your reviews, this is the first time I'll disagree with you. I feel your review seems little biased this time. When I agreed with each point you said in ANIMAL Review (though it was too a glorification of a character but still we enjoyed watching it as entertainment rather than putting it in morality boxes) HOW CAN YOU SAY, IS IT WORTHT TO INVEST THIS MUCH IN THE GLORIFICATION OF TAWAIF CULTURE??? GREAT CONTRIBUTION OF THESE TAWAIFS IN INDIA'S FREEDOM FIGHT EXISTED, AND THAT'S TRUTH. KOTHAS were used for freedom fights, these women contributed for nation too. You also used words like 'Mughals'. This is the story based in British Indian time, where different Nawabs existed not Only from Mughal families. Also Freedom fight is essential part of the show which you didn't talk about or maybe IT SEEMED YOU DIDN'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT. AND YES, IT'S NOT ONLY Mughals Or Nawaabs had Tawaifs Or such artists in their palaces and areas but each other Indian Kings too had such culture. Right from Kings of South India till Rajasthan. Even from the time of Peshwas 'Budhwar Peth' existed where prostitutes were kept, and it is still there in Pune, which is shown in 'Bajirao mastani' as well. I smell religious biases in this video shaan. Sorry to say! Show is amazing amazing. Even the story ❤it's not glorification but just great Entertainment focuses on a part of society back then
All actress did really good acting. Actress playing Alamzam falls flat on her acting skills. Miserably failed to portrayed the emotions, such a spectacular visual delight but Alamzam was such as miss cast
You spoiled my mood in the end by disrespecting prostitution, you’re giving review when you haven’t understood series itself, it’s not about to glorying prostitution but it was about to tell the audience that we should respect prostitute because we can’t imagine what they go through in their life. What hell is “ galat hai ” they don’t have option to survive, do many of them has been sold for money, got have kidnapped, under the burden of responsibilities to feed their families , who will take care of their lives ?you? No right? Then who are you say prostitution galat hai ?
what do you expect from an animal movie lover he gave such justification of that chapri movie but when it comes to nice content and women's struggle movies he is always negative bcs he is male chauvinist what can you expect from him sanjay leela bansali is such brilliant director and a small youtuber like him giving nonsense reviews about his movie just think about it
SLB has always shown interest in including atleast one character of prostitute in his movies. Now making an entire show on prostitution is another whole level!! I'm dumbstruck.
Honestly, its a masterpiece and I couldnt stop binge watching the show. Clean and very entertaining content, sensitive depiction of the life of courtesans in the bygone era. Its a must watch!
I have a question: Why he doesn’t make a movie on Maharana Pratap, Chhatrapati Shivaji and other countless epic warriors ? Not only them there are countless people and ideas he can make a movie on .. why this ? Is it not obvious what’s going on in industry ?
@@1786argha chalo maan liya wo aisi movie banaata bi hai .. but a couple of days ago I saw 4 children watching this movie on their phone.. imagine what they are learning from this .. ( one of them was saying to the other : seekh le aage chalke mehnat karni padegi ).. then why it is shocking for people when this same child grows up to become a rapist ?
He Destroyed image of peshva Bajirao pan india because of wrongly potrail of bajirao's character and family drama. In reality Bajirao peshva was veer yoddha and fought so many battles and increased maratha samrajya
Why no metion about the expressionless performance of Sharmin Segal? After the unclear plot, it was her performance that let the show down. Ek hi to love story thi, usme bhi aap emote na karein to kya faayda. She had a wide range of emotions to cover from innocence to love to betrayal to revenge. She delivered nothing.
Tawaif or prostitution me difference hota tha pehle,, tawaif art me mastered hoti thi classical singing and dancing me, unka politics chlta rhta tha, physical relation consensual hota tha jb vo log freedom fighters ko ko nawabo or raja k diye paiso se help krti thi or secrets share krti thi or apne yha chhupne me help krti thi fir britishers ne unke saare mahal jabt kr liye or sexual harassment krne lge or rebellions ko help krne me unhe marne b lge the fir paise na hone ki vjh se unhe prostitution ko apnana pda... is series me i feel thoda or ache se present kr skte the is cheez ko...
Tawaif is a term used in South Asia, particularly in India, to refer to a courtesan,A courtesan is a prostitute with a courtly, wealthy, or upper-class clientele. Historically, the term referred to a courtier, a person who attended the court of a monarch or other powerful person.
@@Nwl079 offcourse if animal was showing the real life of a boy had issues, then this web series too showed the real history of women struggle. Why so offended haa ?? 😂
Salam he Sanjay Leela Bhansali ko 🫡 Not a single female protagonist was hurt in the filming of Heeramandi series. However, 'Urdu' was royally screwed throughout the series 😹
The story getting predictable by the second half, but manisha koirala, and surprisingly sonakshi held everything together till the last episode. A good one time watch
I don't think Tawwaifs were glorified at all. It presented the reality of courtesans in that period. Nobody said Malikajaan was correct; the show constantly showed how egotistic and selfish she was. I mean, she kills her own sister, sells other girls, controls her daughter, and so much more. Even Fareedan used Alamzeb as a pawn in her plan, betrayed her country and told the British to raid Tajdar's house. If you think the series showed tawwaifs in a positive light, then you completely missed the point of it.
You're correct, the story dragged on, and I ended up fast-forwarding through some parts. The actresses, especially Aditi Rao Hydari, delivered outstanding performances.
Shan! You are my favourite Bollywood critic, but as a native Urdu speaker, I politely disagree with your praise on how good urdu has been spoken in this series, especially when you praised them on correctly pronouncing their "KHAAs". Speaking Urdu precisely is much more than than that. The characters were even pronouncing 'khaas', where they didn't need to. For instance: Khadardaan (it's Qadardaan) Nikhaah (it's simply Nikaah) One character says "is aag ko aur dhudhuknaa hoga" (it's deheknaa) All characters throughout the entire series were hit & and miss with their delivery of Urdu language. SLB clearly didn't hire any credible Urdu language consultants.
Am I the only on who felt Bhansali only repeated what he does and there was nothing new.. few dialogues, shorts and even camera angles were a repeate. He is known for his grand sets, costumes and Jewellery. But honestly the jewellries looked cheap, sets were a repeat and costumes were nothing different.. am I the only one who felt this?
Alamzeb spoiled the series with her single expression throughout the series. It was very disturbing every time we saw her in the screen. But why Shantanu didn't pull out this fact?? Is he scared of her background contacts? Salman se nahi dara to isse kyu dar gya bhai? She disappointed us with her acting and you disappointed us with your baised review.
It's a fictionalized representation of that particular part of Indian history. Enjoy it as a show. Don't lecture on how historically inaccurate this show is. We all know it's not 100% accurate. I loved it and I give it 9/10.
Jab Animal ki baat thi tab big budget, star, story, concept everything were good in name of cinema and art but when it comes to prostituttion you have concern about what should be shown on big screen.
I would like to say that the idea of a 'tawaif' and that of a 'prostitute' are not the same. The point that you are making very much comes out of the Victorian values that was kind of imposed on India during the British colonization. And in the premodern period, these 'kotha's had patronisation from the Nawabs, which when later stopped, led to the brothelisation of these magnificent cultural arenas of India. The position of the tawaifs in the premodern period was much more dignified and principalised than that where they finally were forced to descend after the advent of British process of the 'civilising mission'.
This is true..Glorification of exploitation of women in worst way should not be shown.Rather work should be done to show some positive solutions to this age old practice of exploitation.
If the name Sanjay Leela Bhansali attached with any project That project will be worth watching for sure Then stories and all doesn’t matter SLB this name is enough 💯🔥
Saying ALL women nailed their parts is an insult to the talents of manisha, richa, sona, farida... Come on man have the guts to criticize Sharmin... Or at least individually mention only the actresses who actually acted so well instead of saying what you said... This reeks of you either being PAID by SLB's team to not criticize Sharmin or actually not watching the show and merely giving your two cents about it! Also, your thumbnail for this review is VERY misleading! Didn't expect such a biased and sugarcoated "review" from you! 👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽
at this point bhansali is making movies to show audience his visual aesthetics rather than other way around!! btw if u randomly take out one shot from heeramandi u can't tell if it's from heeramandi or gangubai or padmavat. they all hv same fucking color grading and cosstumes in some scenes. he is fetishing over his vis aestheics to the pointn show is fuckin boring!!
Sir why have you not mentioned the expressionless and dumb acting of Sharmin, how she ruined this series and why you have not called out that she is a by product of nepotism. You have a problem with Sara Ali khan babil Khan but you don't have problem with Deepika Padukone of pathaan and Sharmin of Heera mandi.kudos to your rationality
You didn't seem to touch important subject - Alamzeb bakwaas acting, uska lover is equally bad actor. Richa a good actor, her role was so small whereas bad actors like Sonakshi and Alamzeb (nepotistic folks) were given central characters. Puke
I watched lots of well known reviewer reviews on it , most of are saying Hirmandi is shit...but man I watched all episodes and what a series just sent you in different era..it's a masterpiece...every scene , every frame, love story, songs...just wow ....thumbs up for your geniune review..
Boring, time waste, Bad story....Only Manisha mam's acting and visuals grate in the series. Kyu nhi hogi Netflix ko 200 Cr ka chuna jo laga diya SLB ne😂😂 Par phir bhi isko ya series itna acha lag gaya...pata nhi kaise!! Isse pata chalta hai bade ditector & actor jo abhi market mein popular hai ya baas unsab ko hi support karta hai.
First of all, there is a big difference between prostitution and the tawaif (courtesan) culture. So, NO. This was NOT a show glorifying prostitutes. Read some history and do some basic research before mixing the two. I have shot a documentary in the red-light area and I come from the land of Nawabs as well, so I can straightaway disregard your argument of Heeramandi glorifying prostitutes. India always had the courtesan culture, it's the British who misused and exploited them as prostitutes and corrupted the culture with this poison that women are still suffering from. The story of Heeramandi is simple - how courtesans in Lahore lived during the turbulent times of India's independence struggle. So that's why it was important to show the freedom movement in the background, I thought it was common sense to figure out. There are loopholes in the show, I agree, but definitely not the ones you have mentioned. I didn't find a single episode boring or dragged and it hooked me right from the beginning till the end.
don't why people don't like the series.. series was beautiful not only aesthetics but all the storyes behind the characters their acting drama blend of different stories everything were beautiful
I do agree with you the visuals aesthetics and sinha’s acting in this was a treat to watch the costumes are just *chef’s kisses* after few episodes it does get boring and predictable although i liked how each character has their own dark sides, stories and depth like sanjeeda sheikh and richa chadda’s character, i was expecting more of them more then the story the characters got me hooked
Except For Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Niece. Everybody acted superbly. 🔥🔥. His Niece can't act for sure. Her love story angle was pulling the story down because of her acting. Straight face in all scenes
People have developed a habit of watching explicit content in recent years, especially in web series. If you can't appreciate clean acting, story, and aesthetics, you're missing out. In this series, there's an attempt to present ghazals, thumris, and music in their purest form. Just think, a director who typically caters to mainstream Bollywood music is now trying to stay true to the original. There's no overpowering background music or forced hooks, so if it's not excessively dramatic, it's labeled as boring. They're putting as much effort into one episode as they would into an 8-episode web series these days. Such dedication to mindset, dialogues, music, and costumes requires understanding. Reviewing Heeramandi isn't something you're equipped for. If everything was about numbers, you know Bhansali could do it effortlessly with just a snap of his fingers. His keen eye and experience are evident; it's heavy drama that you couldn't digest.
I just finished the series. Overall it’s a triumph, what a visual and artistic delight! But some of the characters were poorly written. Waheeda’s character was half baked. Wali’s character was one dimensional and Fareedan’s sudden change of heart was bad writing. Bibbojaan and Alamzeb are the standout characters in the show, but Sharmin’s performance was underwhelming. Overall I enjoyed it!
Exactly, toh phir Gangubaai jaisi movies bhi toh glorifying prostitution bolenge, lekin nhi problem toh inhe islaam se hai woh directly bol nhi sakte isilye kuch bhi bolte hai.
The show is world class and acting by everyone is superb except the actress who played Alam. Sets are beautiful, dance is beautiful and Manisha koirala surprises. I feel Madhuri also would have been excellent choice for the same role.
I honestly felt it tried being too much and yet not enough. Story got lost in the grandeur of it. Love Angle, Patriotism, Drama, Historic Politics and Suspense....but why?
1:26 Not just that. But thousands of innocent hindu women from other parts of India were kidnapped and sold here against their will as well. Harsh punishment if they disobeyed. A lot of people overlook this fact in an attempt to glamorise it.
