I am an American and one of my paternal ancestral family names is Elizondo. I know that it is a Basque name. My maternal great grandmother was French but I believe she originated in a Basque region right across the border between France and Spain. Can someone explain the difference? Thanks
Hi, basque Land has one part in France and one in spain. People speak basque language which IS very specific. Years ago spanish basque region fight against spain government because they wanted to be a country out if spain. Lot of people have been killed in that War.
@@sylvienicolas2463 : Thanks for your response. So, if I understand you correctly, the "French" Basques do speak the same language as the "Spanish" Basques even though they identify as French. Also, they did not revolt against France to separate like the Spanish Basques did against Spain. Interesting. I saw an excellent film about this here in the USA on a Public Television Station about two years ago but can't remember the name. It must have had English sub titles or I would not have understood a word. Thanks again. Do you say Un Abrazo Fuerte in Basque as the Spanish do?
