We thought the same about the implosion of Three Rivers Stadium. All the team needs to do is win and we'll never look back. We'll remember Heinz Field when we think about those players who played there like Greg Llyod, Kevin Greene, Mean Joe, the original "OG" "TB12," and many others. So lets go through our mourning phases and enjoy the upcoming days of a new legacy.
I don't remember a huge fuss being made when the Civic Arena became Mellon Arena, nor when the Consol Energy Center became PPG Paints Arena, so why all of a sudden is the football stadium's name change to Acrisure Stadium such a cardinal sin? Sports facilities all around change corporate sponsorships, why should Pittsburgh be immune? I'm a lifelong resident of SW Pennsylvania as well as a lifelong Pittsburgh sports fan, but I'm not rebelling and continuing to call it by the outdated sponsor's name. Some of us care more about the teams who call the stadium home rather than about what the stadium itself is called.
Steelers fans are complaining about it now, but when it comes time to pay those big salaries so we can have a Super Bowl team, they'll be glad the Rooney's got the money.
