HeKz - Terra Nova ( 2024 ) HeKz is an independent progressive metal band. HeKz fuses elements of prog, rock and metal to create a unique take on the genre in the spirit of bands like Dream Theater, Rush, Ayreon and Pain of Salvation.

@@hekztheband All the bands you mentioned are excellent! Me and my brother when he was still alive used to play gotcha last with new metal bands that we found. I am sending this one on to the ethereal planes for him to listen to while he chills on a cloud.

Matt and all HEKZ participants- quite a substantial production here! Excellent, polished, passionate, massive sounds, well performed- it often boggles my mind how music can be practiced and produced remotely, but here's one example. Well done- I look forward to studying further the lyrics and concepts herein.

Impressive👍I think I recognize some of the influences, definitely Dream Theater and Queensryche. Sometimes I hear a bit of Rush or Symphony X too, but not as dominant. But Terra Nova is more that a simple mashup of those. It has a character of its own. Very well done!

@@hekzthebandThe opener "Terra Nova". I like that exuberant drive. The Dream Theater is strong in this one, Images And Words era. Which is another album I greatly appreciate.

Great album. Delivers on both the heavy parts as well as melodic sections. Good vocals. Knows it roots but also has a fresh sound. Sometimes reminds me also of Ayreon's work.

We LOVE Ayreon - particularly Universal Migrator I & II and 01011001. The latter was a big influence on the violin parts for Terra Nova. Do you have a favourite Ayreon record?

@@hekztheband I enjoyed Mayday quite a bit it had overall strong guitarwork, and by extension The Tower's guitarwork, which at times felt like a reprise of Mayday, but made it click that the album was something in the style of Theory of Everything. I'll have to give it another listen to soak more of it in, but I very much enjoyed it.

Having gone through it several times, I managed to perceive it as its own thing instead of something evoking an Ayreon album. Got to notice what felt like a little Neal Morse in Sabotage and parts of the album, a little Boston in Too Far Gone, and I grew to appreciate the range of Matt's vocal performance, not only portraying both the protagonist and The Silent Man, but the range within each role, and his soliloquy's during the Silent Man takes me back to Listening Death is Just a Feeling for the first time. It's a very impressive album.
