Back from France ‪@helenalicejohnsonartist‬ I have been straight into work, visiting locations across Cumbria where I sell work, as well as beginning to develop my two paintings currently on the easel.
My journey through Cumbria has been an exhilarating mix of peace, learning, and spontaneous adventures. The fabulous Rydal Mount was as usual a real treat, while the Keswick Museum and Art Gallery served up a cultural feast. Handling the snow showers became an unexpected yet delightful challenge! Amidst this exciting mix, I've been able to enhance and evolve my two smaller paintings, first started in France, and now being perfected in the inspiring landscape of Cumbria.

I love your colour combinations in your abstract work Helen Alice. Do you decide in advance what colours to use or does it evolve as you are painting? 😊

Hi there. Thank you ! In answer to your question, a bit of both. I start by observing the actual view and take colour from that, then enhance it. Then tend to add the complimentary of it. So the wall in the church of the one with the stained glass was a white stone, but had a pink tone, so I went with the pink, then went from there. Hope that answers your question 😊

Just curious. So you are English, but have 2 homes? One in England and one in France? I live in Ohio, USA. I am so interested in how you sketch so realistic, and paint so contemporary. I am what I call a smear painter. I love using all the different kinds of materials to just have fun. Fun Smear Painting. :) I have 2 daughters (also a son that doesn't do painting) and 8 grandchildren that draw and paint amazing work. Most are very realistic! But they always like my stuff and appreciate it even though it looks like a 1st grader. I would love to hear how you started sketching and painting and what your transitions were in your art.

Hi there, yes that’s right. I have a studio in Northern France and one in Northern England, lucky me. In terms of my art work, I want to paint more than just a view of a landscape, hence the looseness rather than representational approach. I aim to get a sense of feeling of being there, although now I am also exploring another dimension, a space in between. I have a BA and MA in Art, so lots of qualifications but am basically trying to make sense of the world, universe and beyond 😂 I love children’s work- we also have grandchildren. Your work sounds great. Do you have a channel or Instagram
