In this clip you will see Helen Reddy and Dudley Moore singing "It's Easy to Say" from the film "10". This clip was taken from the 52nd Annual Academy Awards telecast in 1980. The song was nominated for an Oscar.
To all picking on Dudley's voice, he was not a singer, but I think did a nice job, to be on the Oscar stage, under that pressure. Add to that, harmonizing. Add to that, I would have been intimidated as hell singing beside the enchanting Helen Reddy. Let it go, people, and enjoy the performance. The world suffered greatly twice when Dudley and Helen passed. RIP, angels. Thanks to the poster for putting this never recorded gem up for all to enjoy!
Best version of this fantastically sweet song! I couldn't find it on CD. It also brings back sweet memories of the 80s.I keep listening to it on YOU TUBE whenever I wish! THANKS.
There is NO reason to make a degrading comment about Dudley or Helen because if you watch the video and see how magical they both are especially Helen who is breathtaking actually...Dudley is a bit nervous but in the movie he was brilliant as was Julie Andrews.....best wishes all
I love this song....Helen's voice is incredible and she's beautiful. I loveDudley and he sings this sort of badly, but Dudleys incredible...and the whole thing is incredible.
i had a crush on Helen Reddy in the 1970's. here she looks so sexy. this is a pretty song. still like to know did she record it. i like it better than the movie version.****
no ....Julie Aundrews sang the song in the Movie...I think Dudley warbled a bit of it aswell...not 100 percent sure....but obvioulsy he was on the Oscars that year as he was the 'In-Thing' at the time.....he was to go on and get a nomination two years later for Arthur.....i think Helen would have done a much better job on her own.....I love the way she shows a bit of leg near the end of the performance
Question - does anyone know why Helen sang the song on the oscars and not Julie Andrews? I personally think Helen is far far superior for this song - brilliant. Also, to those saying Dudley was "out of tune" I don't think it's out of tune you're hearing, he's just not got a spectacular voice BUT, if you have seen the movie, then him singing the song makes a lot of sense. Without him, or with someone else, I don't think the impact would have been as strong.
There was a old Hollywood for the Oscar's the song not be live at Academy Awards by the original artist. Which is why Helen didn't sing her song Candle on the Water that had been nominated in 1977. But she got her chance to sing at the Academy awards afterall singing Julies song.
Dudley's participation in this song at the Oscars playing the piano is the best way because he really Is an experienced pianist. In the movie "10", the spontaneous instrumental version of this song shown later in the movie was Dudley's own real ad-libbed performance. It wasn't meant to be the official shot, but it was so beautifully done that it was kept in. It also worked in context because his character was in a depressed state of mind at that point, and his playing expressed that emotion. In regards to Dudley's singing, he played a composer in "10", and composers/lyricists are not always known for having great singing voices. Dudley came across as authentic because of his pleasant if not spectacular singing. If he had been dubbed it would not have worked.
