This is a very trippy scene because even paused I just see Emma Watson even though it isn’t. She encapsulates her body language, mannerisms, and facial expressions so well that she literally doesn’t look like herself.

Emma ADR’d her voice onto Helena. How can you not tell?! The acting and Mannerisms of Hermione are there from Carter, but the voice was recorded over in post. That is Emma’s voice.

Point is she didn’t act to match the timing of the voice over. She acted the scene with the lines as written, emulating Emma/Hermiones movements and mannerisms, and then Emma recorded her voice in post to match the timing of Helena’s performance. Not the other way around

With that in mind, Helena had to both act out Emma acting out Helena acting out Bellatrix, but also act out Hermione acting out Bellatrix. Not a simple task.

It is one of the best acting performances in the last 20 years. HBC is iconic and can do pretty much anything, but her acting as Emma Watson acting as Hermione Granger acting as Bellatrix is FANTASTIC. Like… it’s just a voice dub, but her acting is phenomenal. It literally looks like Emma acting as Hermione acting as Bella. It’s short, I think it’s less than a minute of screen time, but it’s great. HBC is so great.

In the books polyjuice potion also changes your voice into the person you're morphing into and the movies are inconsistent on that point. When Barty Crouch Jr. changes into Mad Eye Moody using polyjuice potion his voice changes as well, yet whenever Harry, Ron or Hermione use the potion their voices don't change in the movies, but they do in the books.

It's a common movie trope to keep the voices of the original actor in such scenes, as a signal to the audience on who it "really" is. Movies can't use prose to indicate these things, so the voice is used to signal instead. The goal of the movie is not to have a camera view of "what really happened", but to tell a story.

When they do scenes they do multiple takes, instead of having Helena and Emma keep swapping and doing so many takes, they had Emma do a few takes, then the director cuts it down to the takes they prefer and Helena can just focus on the particular takes to really dial in her performance tailored to how they've agreed to do the scene.

It took me a few minutes to realize it was Helena on the scene, not Emma. Such an amazing performance. Helena really nailed it. As Harry and his friend would say: brilliant!

This is a perfect example of the sort of dedication to the craft that great actors truely embody. It bugs me when society treats actors like ‘celebrities’ instead of skilled craftspeople.

One of the silliest differences between the book to film adaptations was tweaking the polyjuice potions effects. In the books, the person taking the potion doesn’t just look like another person but will sound like them, too. I’m pretty certain it was changed in the films strictly for possible comedic value.
