I grew up in Helena in the 70's. We aren't Catholic but I remember that everyone in town is very proud of that beautiful cathedral. You can hear the chiming from many miles away.
@@JoeandNicsRoadTrip Been watching a bunch of your videos. It absolutely blows my mind how you do not question anything you just the official narrative to you by government, a.k.a. "of Victor" written history. You point out all the ancient architecture, and you just believe they were built during time periods your told with no diesel trucks, no cranes, just shovels, carriages, horses, carts, ropes and wooden pulleys. You don't even question why there's a Muslim shrine in Montana. The shriners are the very top of the masons. At the 33° of masonry you study the Quran and you become a Shriner. Maybe you should look into the ancient/impossible architecture theory, mud floods and Tartarian architecture. And look into the word "founded". Or feel free to just continue to beLIEve the "reality" of the world that has been given to you by our loving/caring government, government controlled, academia, government controlled science,Hollywood/Netflix and Victor written history.
My mom lived in Helena, my father great falls. I have very fond memories of how beautiful the architecture in the town was. 50 millionaires at one time... richest town in the world at the time...I understand now
@@margaretthatcher6828to be honest. Montana is a summer place. Butte is really getting bad. I don’t think butte even has but 1 Nice Hotel. The 130 year old red brick buildings are mostly all falling apart. No jobs there. You hear businesses closing down almost weekly, and those businesses were like 90 years old. So, what does that say? Montana has some MAJOR PROBLEMS coming on. They spent their Covid Money too. Terrible.
@@dalepxp8963 I was born and raised in Bozeman and if you see the growth ...it's going out to Butte. Butte is rich in History, more so than Helena and no...Montana isn't just a summer place. I still live in Montana but...please don't move here. Have a great day!
I lived in Montana from 1990 to 1998 and worked in the State capital in 1996. You should have taken the tour of the capital. There is so much more to see. They have some beautiful paintings that are huge. Many paintings from CM Russel of cowboys, Native Americans, and landscapes. He also did bronzes.
Helena and Montana in general are treasures. Great views of the stained glass windows and the Holy Scriptures inside the cathedral. Legislature is only part-time and ZERO state sales tax.
Another beautiful video, Joe and Nic. Thanks for all you do. We viewers get to see the fun you have but appreciate all the work you put in behind the scenes. Safe travels to you.
Picked up a bag of raw sapphire gravel in Phillipsburg, MT. Have several raw sapphires we panned out. Should make a bracelet or earrings or something. Multiple colors and sizes of stones. Also, I love that giant candy store there in town.
The cathedral bells chiming immediately whisked me back to my altar boy days in Chicago over 60 years ago. What a long strange trip it's been. Thanks for the reminder!
I was working in the Mansion district on Wednesday! You turned a block before the house I was painting on Stuart. Glad you loved Helena, we like it too
I live in England UK and will probably never get to visit the USA so your trave vlogs are brilliant for us. Great mix of travel/ history / food and a lovely touch of humour keep doing what you do. 😂❤😊
A wonderful video, as always. A lovely town, and some amazing homes ! The Cathedral is beautiful, and I love the sound of the bells ! Thanks so much, Joe and Nic.😊💖
This place is beautiful, reminds me of Denver back in the 60-70s before all the changes came. It seems quiet and peaceful as well. Thanks for sharing and have a great day with safe travels
This cathedral in Helena is Gorgeous, …❤️….church architecture in Europe is the greatest…my favorite cathedral is the Sacred Heart Basilica in Montmarte, Paris…
I live near Paris, and the Sacré-Coeur never ceases to amaze me. You may enjoy the Strasbourg Cathedral too, or Reims. That being said, Helena is indeed very similar to what we've got in Europe.
You are right, that was by far the most beautiful church I have seen. What a colorful history. I'm always amazed at how much I learn from watching your channel, thanks.
Helena is such a beautiful city. Thank you for covering this in detail. You guys are a joy to watch. I love your pleasant and friendly approach, filled with relevant data.
I enjoyed visiting quaint Helena. It all seemed so quiet and chilled out. The Capitol is really beautiful. The surrounding mountains were gorgeous. It's a nice Montana city.
Another great episode. The cathedral was really surprising. I’ve started going back and enjoying your older videos. They’re just as good now as they were a year or more ago.
I was born in Helena. Nice town. One thing I bet you didn't know about Helena is it had an active brothel until 1973. The madam's name was Big Dorthy. I didn't visit Big Dorthy's because I was only 10 years old when law enforcement shut it down for good. As I watched further I see you visited Big Dorthy's. LOL
Wow! What a unexpected fascinating historical town! Thank you so much for taking us in that amazing Cathdral! Indeed the most exquisite.! Please don't stop taking the time to share these with us. Where you "For whom the bell tolls"? Blessings to you both as you travel on.😊
Wow, what a beautiful church ! The interior is stunning ! The State Capital building is also very breath taking ! Your meal at the " Windbag " looked amazingly delicious ! Look forward to the next installment.
I really enjoyed your video. Joe the church was absolutely gorgeous. these places that you take the world with the knowledge is absolutely wonderful for the world to know that otherwise would never know or see. Thank you.😊
Beautiful buildings. I live in Ireland where the architecture is fantastic, so I appreciate nice architecture. It seems like a clean city as well. Thank you for the vids
Well, Joe, you got me, too! You had me going with that Governor's story, but I've stopped watching Yellowstone so that never even occurred to me. Good job on the fake-out!😅 Love the restaurant name!😂
I like to take Amtrak and maybe ten years ago was crossing northern Montana and fell in love with the place. I try to get up there at least twice a year. There is something so special about the state.
Helena is a nice capital city, thanks for giving it a thumbs up. I was guessing you were on your way to Cheyenne next, wish you could had made it up to the Flathead (Glacier National Park, Kalispell, Whitefish ), maybe in the future. You guys do good work.
I love the fire tower! The Cathedral is magnificent ! Love the story on how Helena was founded. I do like the county courthouse as well. The Civic Center is very interesting. Some fantastic homes outside of downtown. The dome at the state Capitol is nice! I love the name of the saloon😂. Your food looked delicious. Looking forward to Wyoming!
The church is absolutely so beautiful. I have so enjoyed this round of trips. You all are just great. Joe, all of the information you give is spot on. Keep on driving 🚗 👌.
So pretty. I’m in Canada from July to October this year and I may sneak a trip down to here. Gorgeous! Thanks Joe really appreciate all the time and driving you do to bring this to your followers. Love from across the old pond 🇬🇧
I could make a tour of all the Cathedrals here and elsewhere, and be a happy man. Thanks for this view inside this beautiful one. That goes for Fire Towers as well btw.
So informative and "Beautiful sites Joe"!..I particularly love that beautiful church, so majestic, hope I can make it one day to that part of our country..there's room to move and not be bothered too much..safe travels an God's Speed as you go. 🌼
The Cathedral is awesome & stunning. Thank you for revealing the interior. The stained glass windows remind me of the sacred cathedrals & churches I visited in England & Ireland. Hope i can get to visit Helena some day. Peace & love from Kathleen in California
Your statement that Helena is the prettiest town you've seen on your trip -- you drove on the freeway right through Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and didn't even stop. You missed the prettiest town on your trip. We hope you come visit us sometime. 😀
You have to remember they are primarily on the state capital tour and there is a long way between Olympia and Helena. Its almost 600 miles, and time has to be tight. I know they did Spokane, but that was probably a good place to take a break and do another city. CDA is a beautiful city, but there are more than a dozen cities in northern Idaho and western Montana that are beautiful also. Hopefully they will be able to come back someday and have the time to check them all out. I have lived here for over 40 years and still finding great little places to explore, they only have a few days.
@xman777b what the heck does that matter? Overrun? I am a California girl who lives in Spokane. Been here 15 years. I keep my house nice, pay my bills, buy lots of goods, donate, eat at restaurants, spend lots of money... how does that HURT a town? My kids all grew up here. CdA is absolutely lovely and some if it is because of outsiders spending $...
@@sharonm.t.2492 it's the only thing they can ever do is blame everything on people from California. I grew up in Washington state (west & east side) and that's all I ever heard from people in Seattle over to Spokane. xman doesn't mention the horrible history CDA and that area has with welcoming & harboring members of the Aryan Nations. The scenery may be beautiful but the soul of the area has been tainted for decades.
The Shriners were started to support and build hospitals for "cripple" children for treatment at no cost. Theses hospitals are through out the United States and Mexico. They also support children of need from Canada
We just ate at the Windbag Saloon. Had those Brothel Bites. They are amazing. Thank you guys for telling us about the place. We told the waitress we were eating here because of you two!
Love Helena so much. Went to college there in the seventies. Even then, there were so many good restaurants, live music and fun things to do. Most fabulous wedding I ever went to was Candlelight ceremony in the Cathedral.
Church is awesome! Perfect timing 4 the bell ringing! Montana is so beautiful. Food looked great @ an great price! Nicole's sandwich looked great cuz, sorry Joe, I still don't like fish 😂. Stay u guys keep having fun!!
My father was a member of the First Special Service Force which was organized and trained in Helena during WWII. It was a Canadian/American special operations brigade of under 2,000 men. They were the original special opps soldiers; precursors to all special opps of today. Coined the “Devils Brigade”, they were instrumental in many operations in the European Theater. Perhaps, most importantly, the taking of Mt LaDefensa, a Nazi stronghold which opened the route through Italy to Rome. Another great video! Thanks
This video was a pleasant surprise for me. I knew very little about Montana, and nothing about Helena, so I really enjoyed seeing these places for the first time. Standouts for me were a) the Big Sky (the country is so very vast!), and b) that glorious cathedral, with its beautiful stained-glass windows. Fortunately, I watched this video while eating lunch, so seeing the food at the end didn't provoke hunger pangs, as often happens when I watch the videos at odd times of the day or night. Thanks very much for these most enjoyable films - they are really appreciated. Cheers from a cool to mild ( 19°C) autumn in Melbourne, Australia!
I love the sound of church bells. I also love the old West feel of the town. So odd to have a middle Eastern spire on a building downtown. Just seemed so out of place. Thanks a bunch. Safe travels.
