The controversial and violently explicit film follows the attempts of a Mexican family to make some money. Trouble ensues when the youngest child, 12-year-old Estela (Andrea Vergara), starts dating a 17-year-old fledgling special-forces cadet (Juan Eduardo Palacios). He steals some confiscated cocaine so the two of them can get married. But this angers Estela's older brother, auto plant worker Heli (Armando Espitia), who discards the drugs and they then have to face the corrupt police force they have crossed.
HELI becomes one of several high profile films on the Network label from Central and Latin America which include Oscar-nominated NO and the critically acclaimed relationship movie Gloria.
