These guy's on the background; and the announcer... are they for real? I wonder how they behave if them selves stuck in a emergency situation... crying to mummy?
2 bladed rotors are more likely to crash. I wouldn't get in one unless the pilot was very experienced. Since this was 10 years ago they weren't using drones for footage of events.

After an investigation by the FAA and NTSB, it was concluded that the pilot was flying over the race when suddenly he heard an announcer on a loud speaker who was so atrocious that the pilot lost the will to live. After unsuccessfully dying in the subsequent crash, he ran down the hill to kill the announcer with his bare hands.
@@fabiovezzari2895 yes lol the white shirt guy that at first runs left of the crash, he then proceeds down the hill towards the announcer booth, presumably, to murder him. Lol
Right !! Dude is way to excited about that small egg beater with a lawnmower engine. Makes me so happy to live on the opposite side of the country if that's truly exciting to this dude and everyone around him.
Imagine you're in that chopper and it tips over on landing....and..... you have that crew of burnout 35 year-old Colorado stoner skateboarders to rush to your aid...
Whats wrong with skateboarding and smoking weed? you must be a bit senile or something lmao. That kind of a guy that thinks every skateboarder is a criminal hahahaha, what a joke your mindset is old man x)
Looks like a “settling with power” situation. Hopefully everyone in helicopter made it out safe. As for the guy on the microphone ...what a douche lord.
That is what I thought too. He went back around into where his prop wash was still rolling. Thought he had time to scoot sideways too, but might have been scared of going over the people to get altitude by going downhill. If so, kudos for crashing in a field rather than risking people to save a machine. Always have to plan for the worst, especially in a helicopter, especially with a reciprocating engine, especially in the mountains, and most especially for a CAMERA! They are killers.

This was my friends helicopter that was being used by a flight school. I remember when he called me to say he thought he was financially ruined because of this. Luckily there were no injuries and everything turned out OK for him! Scary stuff... They were flying too low, too slow, too heavy all while at a higher elevation and being fully fueled, on a hot day while not leaving enough room to recover.
@@jackriley77 That's actually not true. You can glide in a helicopter as well, it's called auto rotation and you can land safely without a working engine if you're a trained pilot.
The camera operator was obviously drunk and appears to be a compulsive bigmouth. he waves his camera around as if he thinks we want to see anything else but the crash. he could have done a zoom in while screaming its gonna blow, but obviously his empty witless personality would not allow such conscious control. What a clod.
From NTSB: "The pilot had just performed a left-pedal turn and the helicopter was facing upslope to the mountain. The low rotor warning sounded and the pilot lowered the collective and increased throttle. The pilot stated that the engine did not respond so he continued to lower the collective and looked for a place to land." If he got the horn, he certainly had low rotor RPM and you can bet it was from the High Density altitude, high weight and trying OGE
I just watched another video of a Robinson that chopped off its own tail during flight and crashed, killing both occupants. Those Robinson's don't look good to me at this point.
Yes I do fly R22's, and R44's. I'm a CFII with endorsements to instruct in both. Your statement that the helicopter shouldn't get into a low rotor situation because it has a governor is misleading and dangerous. The governor fine tunes the throttle input to keep the engine rpm at the appropriate level to keep the rotor rpm in the green. At high DA you can hit "full throttle" and the governor can do nothing to help. This finite amount of power is why it is challenging to fly high, hot and heavy.
These birds don't have much power to begin with, makes you respect limited power available & rotor limitations..terrible things happen with rotor under/overspeeds, settling, LTE, myriad of other things.. always fly with deliberate respect, knowledge of craft, and leave yourself more than one planned option..😉🚁
??? He started filming that helo when it was far away, never stopped even when it looked like he would turned into swiss cheese from the rotor blades...what more do you want?
At the 31 sec mark you can see the flag waving stong as he is almost head on into the wind for a low aproach. Then his mistake was to turn almost 180 downwind and it settled into his own vortex downwash creating a loss of lift. Rookie mistake I assume.
Bad mistake but he is a great pilot. He was my flight instructor years ago. He preached safety and could auto that thing on a dime. Keyboard warriors bash everyone who crashes but the thing is in the commercial world shit happens. You live you learn. He was humble. Kind. And talented.
@@tylerw1418 Shows that very experienced and talented people can make mistakes. Thinking you are the one person who never makes mistakes is a very dangerous attitude in itself.
He didn't just get wiped out by a wave, he crashed a helicopter. The eyes see, but the brain just can't compute. Obviously a bright star for the future.
That guy was commenting on the race but change its focus on the incredibly rare chopper that only couple of people had the chance to see in its natural habitat, thanks for this rare sighting..... ')
Detectives have determined that the helicopter was most likely sabotaged by the man taking the video. He was the only person who knew in advance what was going to happen.
The pilot was one of my instructors a good few years back. He was flying heavy with bad wind direction. He did a good job making sure he brought it down without hurting anyone. The owner was happy it was insured for more than it was worth. Sometimes you just need to tell the camera guys inside you just can't get the shot instead of forcing it and chancing a incident like this.
chopperbubba he was a very good instructor. He had several thousand hours but made the mistake of listening to the camera guys wanting to be lower. The pilot should always do what allows for safety. The wind is a reason but not an excuse.any pilot can tell you people who don't know about flying will always push you to do unsafe things just because they have a lack of knowledge.
chopperbubba I agree 100%. I had a photo flight in a 22 where the camera guy wanted me to fly slow with a tail wind. I declined and described why. I'm not saying he didn't mess up just saying that he was a good pilot making a lapse in judgment. I talked to him after and he understands the mistake. And you are right people seem like they want to walk into the tail rotor.
chopperbubba haha I don't know. I started having to be in charge of watching out for people around my helicopter right around the time that girl walked into the airplane prop. Makes you want to yell at people.
The actor Vic Morrow was decapitated by a rotor blade because the helicopter pilot listened to the director’s shouts of “lower!! lower!!” instead of doing what he knew was the right and safe thing.
@@coalcreeker583 Sad how he and those kids died. Weird that he died playing, to me, his most famous character that of a Soldier. I grew up watching "Combat" on a B&W Zenith.
Playing Motorhead was cool but that guy can foresee the future, I would definitely let him be mc at my party but don't let any whirlybirds in ...Haha its gonna blow ,, perfect mike control compared to the chopperator !!
The helicopter obviously heard the announcer and tried to murder/suicide the situation. This was filmed at Colorado extreme douchebag championships. The winner gets 2 cases of protein bars and a life sized THC gummy bear.
Who the hell was that guy screaming like a little girl? He must be related to "double rainbow guy". Either that, of he WAS "double rainbow guy". Holy crap dude..........STHU!
Actually, what you see here, from the pilot's response to the low-RPM horn was absolutely correct: lower pitch, then increase throttle, failing which look for a landing spot. From experience, I have little doubt that the road would have saved the helicopter, but may have struck a racer. Given the circumstances, most pilots' reactions (mine included) would have been much the same. The more pertinent question is what led to the loss of power, and the NTSB concluded it was due to density altitude.
Yes. The pilot did do exactly what should have been done when he found himself there, however, he should have never found himself there; a hot day, too heavy, too slow, and too low, and no real place to land at that point. He accommodated the camera man instead of the aircraft and situation.
@@blondblue1949 I agree completely. He was way behind the aircraft by that point. Thank goodness he realized quickly and didn't try for a desperate save that made things worse. I was wondering if he might have flown too many turbines in the weeks leading up to the crash. Looked like he wasn't paying much attention to available power.
89hondaguys.....really.....he lost tail rotor effectiveness??? I am a flight instructor in this make and model helicopter. If a helicopter did lose tail rotor effectiveness it would be spinning around the mast. Christ....all these non pilots need to stick to flying their arm chairs. this ship has a partial power loss and thats why its a light touch down...unfortunately on a slope. He never lost tail rotor authority. sad loss of an otherwise good ship. pilots pucker factor was a 10 no doubt.
Those things have governors and you shouldn't be getting into a low rotor RPM situation. Most likely, he was just too heavy, too high when it was too hot. If you fly helicopters like I do, it's called high density altitude. From the NTSB: The National Transportation Safety Board determines the probable cause(s) of this accident to be: The pilot’s decision to operate the helicopter at a high density altitude near terrain, which resulted in a settling with power condition
Glad the occupants appear to have got out OK. Just a shame the dangerous and wildly out of control rotors that were 110 ft away from the announcer, weren't 110ft closer to the announcer.
Dude totally willed that helicopter to crash. It was fine until he said " might get to see it crash". It was low but obviously under control. At that very moment it came down. Dude owes dude a helicopter.
@seaswirl79 I included the pilots report to illustrate that they got into and CAN get into low rotor RPM despite having a governor. The governor does nothing to help low rotor when a lack of power/high density altitude situation exists.
Silly to fly a chopper a 1/4 mile from windy saddle. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RooZLLJarpg.html Crash site at 28:46 and Windy Saddle at 29:12 Paraglider pilots take off from Windy saddle. I have never seen a chopper fly that low over that terrain. Power lines are another issue up there. I already have a bad opinion of Robinson helicopters. This bird looked like a hand pushed it down. Not surprised, any helicopter would have had issues.
I was waiting for one of the blades to hit the loudspeaker guy. Ps: I came here via the "Helikopter Helikopter song". Now i can't stop hearing it when they say it.
Another example of an under powered toy (Robinson R-44) exhibiting loss of tail rotor effectiveness (LTE) and settling with power. Most likely caused by the pilot, but if he wasn’t flying a toy probably wouldn’t have happened. I flew 5 different helicopters over my 31 year Army career. You wouldn’t catch me dead in a Robinson. Robinsons are for people that want a helicopter, but can afford a real one so they risk their lives flying toys around. Many will say, “The pilot exceeded the limitations of the aircraft.” Well, that’s the problem with Robinsons, everything beyond low, straight and level is damn near a limitation.
More importantly, why is this model/type of helicopter allowed to fly. I've seen so many of this specific design on crash videos. Others do as well, but usually there's a failure. This one has a blade design that can hack off the tail in rare situations, like relatively simple hover, that only properly trained pilots know to avoid or control. It's insane. There must be a reason they're allowed to sell this and people use them, but I would love to see the accident rate to hours in the air. Probably would contradict the video footage on actual accident rate.
Should have used a real helicopter. I personally think these Robinsons are dangerous. (and yes, I'm an ATP rated helicopter pilot. Retired now). Every type has limits. Refer to the flight manual of each type. Then evaluate your personal experience.
Your goina have to excuse nitwhit commentators like this guy - I used to work at Thrasher Magazine in SF and I know the type. Usually they aren't this much of a stupid Blow hard - probably a lot of Drugs and Beer the night before - or maybe at the time. I guess you could say this guy is on par with Nostradamus but only for a couple of seconds into his future!
Good gosh!! This one guy acts like nothing happened after the helicopter crashed and didn't even check on the pilot or passengers to see if they were okay. He was just smiling from ear to ear, saying: "Oh my gosh! It's gonna blow!" When the helicopter didn't even catch fire! That's insane!
He was probably having issues but happened to realize he was over an area with not only alot of people but hippies on weed that go crazy when seeing just about anything.
