Watch this helicopter spray soybeans in western Indiana.
We will see him refill by landing on the semi truck. The nurse truck refills the helicopter with chemicals for the next passes. The sprayer tender trailer has a landing pad for the helicopter to land during refills.
This crop duster is used for aerial fungicide, herbicide and pesticide applications.

This must be a dream job for every pilot who realy loves to fly (although it looks hot like hell)! I have the feeling to see the joy in the face of this great pilot in every of these fun turns. So much skill involved to do it so smooth and preciese! Wow. This muxt be at the same time the best training for your skills to coordinate collective pitch, cyclic and yaw alltogehter, using the momentum of the machine! Fantastic. If I could be young again I would do this job with so much passion and love! As this is not an option I keep flying my small RC helis with the same passion!

Some parts of the Country and certain jobs Helicopters are the way to go. Other parts of the Country and certain jobs the Turbine powered Air Tractors and Thrushes are an advantage. Use the right tool for the right job. Nice Video .

Ok so 2 gal/acre? I'm in my 3rd season with R44 and I regularly leave the truck with 65 gal, 75 if I have a stiff headwind. So if you are only taking 80, the step up to a turbine is 100% not worth it with the hot section wheels at 400% markup

@txtallywhacker perhaps. No experience with r44. Turbines aren't cheap. I'm also 230lbs. I can take 90 plus with that same headwind you speak of. Just limit my fuel. 206 is very smooth and a wonderful platform. 14 seasons in the 206. Average about 45000 acres a season corn and beans.

Great piloting. You have enormous skill. Helicopter sure is nice. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice! Those planes or helicopters that do that have some nerves of steel. They sure can cover some acres fast.

The chemical label is our guidebook to the application. Typical wordage is that you can only boom out to 70-80% of your wingspan. Airplanes and helicopters follow the same guidelines. My boom is 26'. My rotor disk is roughly 34'. My swath has been certified to 55'. I typicall run 50-52' swath. Think of the helicopter as a zero turn radius mower and a plane as a 15' batwing type mower. Different jobs are suited for each.

Thats a narrow spray boom on the helo, not even the diameterof the rotor blades which means many more passes across the field that a wider boom would cover.
@ColdStoneRacing
@ColdStoneRacing 3 месяца назад
You aren't allowed to run a boom the same width as the rotor.
@dougb27
@dougb27 2 месяца назад
Nope. The spray spreads out much further than the boom width.
