Heljan finally Decided to release the long awaited class 25, this one being in ice cream van delivery, a custom one-off celebrity local livery. this loco is preserved on the Churnet Valley Railway and I take a full look at the model and real life loco.

Very good. I will soon to own a Bachmann version of this engine, if I had number transfers in the right colour I'd renumber it to 25322 as preserved

I’ve got the 1990s condition version of this loco, there was a Cast Nameplate made then but it was removed before the loco went into Preservation, I think one nameplate is owned by the Castle off the same name, not too sure though. The green one is just as stunning and includes a Tysley shed plate on each cab end along with different 4 character head codes at each end. Just need to get a digital chip for mine and I can use it.

Ok why have you not mentioned the fact that the lights are working wrongly? The tail lights are on when running forward, and the head lights come on when it's running in reverse! I have seen this on another 25 review and it was on "normal" DC power, so this would seem to be a manufacturing fault, and something that needs addressing. I for one won’t be buying one, unless I know for certain that everything is ok with it. Hattons or wherever you got from ought to ding a product recall on these models. Totally unacceptable in this day and age! And yes the buffers are going to be made of metal and yes they are very shiny!

It was the DCC decoder that caused the lights to work the wrong way, worked fine on DC and once I replaced the chip. I think I mentioned it in the other video I did covering this loco, you can change the CV settings to reverse the 'forward' direction but for some reason this chip wasn't having any of it. But I do agree, thing is with Heljan, you have to check over the model very carefully on delivery, as I've had silly little issues like loose glazing and details and a fair few lighting issues and even blown blubs, Heljan quality control isn't the best, and for the price the charge us for the model, it's embarrassing. There O Gauge stuff is even worse, I've got various O Gauge locos from them and had even more issues, to the point where I won't be ordering Heljan O Gauge in the future. I'd send it back mate, mine is really quiet and runs really smooth, unless it needs a bit of a oiling

Personally I think that Heljan and Bachmann are working together maybe to fix high prices. I say this as Bachmann have suddenly started selling the Heljan class 58 on the EFE sales page and were well advanced regards re making their class 25. Then Heljan suddenly come out with this at the same time Bachmann were due to release their version. I smell a rat. Remember Heljan were going to release this at £135 and Bachman at £152. Then this apparent Heljan model comes out at £1 more than the Bachmann one was going to be released at.

Hi Rob, you make a seriously good case here, you are spot on j think, and something I never thought about. Definitely agree something is amiss, as EFE is just Heljan stuff marked up with profit going to Bachmann, I will be interested to see the Bachmann 25, probably be delayed now while they take notes from owners and try and quickly fix them on there own model. I too have a Heljan class 25 and that is exalent . I dont see for the sake of a very few details from a distance makes .In my view if it looks right then it is

It definitely is a good model, the livery really set it off for me, as I've seen it enough times on the CVR, well done to Heljan on this one
